One in ten jobs in the North West are now in the creative and digital industries. The purpose of UTC@MediaCityUK is to swell the pool of talent for the industry to recruit from. My role is to help UTC@MediaCityUK bring the gap between the creative digital industry and the next generation of it's workers. 

Why? 

Because the creative and digital industries depend on innovation, so it’s vital that skills continually evolve. Yet it’s also widely accepted that there’s a shortage of people with the necessary abilities – whether academic, technical or practical – to meet the industries’ needs.

Sandra (Sandi) Walsh

This week I collected something I never expected to receive at the 'grand' age of 66.

At the The PPC Hub Summit in Copenhagen in September, Miles McNair announced the 'Transformation Trophy' winner. Then he suggested there was more than one. When he started describing someone's journey "from midwifery to PPC, building freedom at a later age", I knew he was talking about me.

The voting by PPC Hub members was apparently so close between Hester Geerdink and me, that Miles ordered a second trophy to be specially made. It arrived on Monday.

I live on a 60-foot long, 6' 10" wide narrowboat. Space is precious. But I moved pictures around to find the perfect spot. Right behind me when I work. Actually that's a fib. Barry moved things around! I can now look at it every day and feel immensely proud.

Before joining The PPC Hub in April 2024, I often felt isolated. I worked 'for' an agency, in a self-employed capacity. 

Miles McNair and Bob Meijer changed that. Joining their community of 2,000+ members in April 2024 was one of the best moves I've ever made. The courses, workshops, custom GPTs, and plenty more resources, transformed how I work. And of course I was invited to be on a PPC Mastery Podcast in June 2025 to share my story. What an honour!!

Mike Rhodes 💡 opened entirely new doors. From his Scripts and Sheets course last August to being a Founding Member of his Ads2AI programme in the summer this year. It's a whole new and exciting learning curve. A VERY steep one admittedly, especially for someone who had NEVER coded before.

This week alone I've set up Claude Code, Claude desktop, learnt how to use Terminal, cloned the Ads to AI 8020 brain, set up an AI Discovery project for a client, and started Phase 1 of the Skills Map. My brain is loving it.

So you see the 'Transformation' is far from finished. In fact it's accelerating.

From midwife to life coach, TENS hire, facepainting, travel blogging. Each small business gave me experience in copywriting, websites, marketing. Those skills became the bridge to PPC. Now AI automation.

Not everyone can do this at 66. I realise that. But I also know I wouldn't have gotten here without investing in the right people, financially, and crucially showing up consistently.

Here's what I've learned: the things that feel expensive or scary to invest in are usually the ones that pay you back tenfold. Not just in money. In confidence. In community. In possibilities you couldn't see before.
