One in ten jobs in the North West are now in the creative and digital industries. The purpose of UTC@MediaCityUK is to swell the pool of talent for the industry to recruit from. My role is to help UTC@MediaCityUK bring the gap between the creative digital industry and the next generation of it's workers. 

Why? 

Because the creative and digital industries depend on innovation, so it’s vital that skills continually evolve. Yet it’s also widely accepted that there’s a shortage of people with the necessary abilities – whether academic, technical or practical – to meet the industries’ needs.

I was one of three founding directors who formed the Limited company that purchased this derelict building in the late 1990's. I was responsible for fundraising to purchase it, build the North Wests biggest purpose built mosque in its grounds, and secure funding that brought the centre back into use.
The centre is now valued at £1.2M with  turnover 2009/10 of £350k and the mosque is valued at £1.5M. The Centre is an award winning flagship community enterprise, fully owned and run by the local community. It is delivering services to 100,000 customers annually in a deprived inner city area rife with social exclusion issues. I have undertaken that role in a voluntary capacity and built the centre and the management committee to be self sustaining by 2009 and achieved this.
I wqas elected management comittee chair until standing down in 2009. By that time I was confident that the centres committee had built the capacity and purpose to continue its groundbreaking community role. In 2011 I have retuned to guide strategy through localism and Big Society to deliver bigger ambition's.

I have a track record of leading strong and effective teams of specialist staff and general office staff. This has been most recently in the Planning and Regulation Service (Planning, Environmental Health, Licensing and Trading Standards). 
I have led teams of between 5 and 50 staff on projects ranging from taking millions of paper records and making them electronic for 10,000 staff to implementing on line portal access for planning applications. I also lead the teams that deliver the process and advice on planning and Building Control. I also manage the Information teams that advise on the regulatory services the Council provides. 
I have achieved business objectives through influence rather than a directive management style. This is seen in my use of excellent communication and presentation skills both orally and in writing using all types of presentation tools to engage with others, surface issues and then work together on achieving the outcome I need. This was seen in my work on the national body that developed the governments planning portal and also in working to transform services work flow and practice and procedure methods. I needed to quickly engage with staff and managers, get them on board and then for them to be the change agents in those services to deliver my agenda.

An ambitious and experienced manager with over 40 years practical experience leading teams in the Civil Service, Local Government, private sector and large multi-disciplinary 3rd Sector charities. Qualified in formal management, customer care and leadership methodologies with the passion and drive to apply these skills to always make a difference. My career so far is evidence of my ability to do so sucessfully.

I am now embarking on a new career focussed on short term contracts and consultancy roles. I will now apply my core skill's to surface and understand very complex issues and explain them to develop and implement innovative solutions. My successful leadership style and passion to continuously improve is unchanged. I have transformed a large Municipal organisation's services and have created an innovative award winning social enterprise as part of my sucessful career.

I have a long term commitment in the North West, and Manchester in particular, as well as my happy place Malta.
Manchester has been and remains the source of innovation for UK Plc and will be the engine house for radical change. It will transform communities that are currently seeing years of social capital destroyed by debt driven panic policies and I will work to retain the ambition to be the best again. 
I will lead the move away from the historically structured governmant silos to remove the walls and think the unthinkable. And in this new decade, transfer that thinking to my new home Malta 2020 and beyond.

I will be leading the communities who already know what they need to do to meet the dangerous and exciting challenge's of the next few years. I am about changing service approaches, delivering what the customer wants.
