MANUP? is a Men's Mental Health Charity that was founded in 2019 and formally became a Charity in July 2021. Its purpose is to de-stigmatize men's mental health and this is done via podcasts, videos, events, and more.

This is a role that I fully enjoyed I developed my skills working within a large team whilst also having the ability to lead in a management role. I was quickly promoted, having started as an assistant manager, within a few weeks I had shown my ability in this role and was responsible for managing a store where I increased the gross profit from 10k per week to over 35k in a short amount of time, this stayed consistent for well over 3 months. My success in this role led to me managing multiple stores in the region.

•	Maintaining 3 to 5 stores which regularly included Chelmsford, Ipswich, Witham and Subury 
•	Maintaining cash flows by accounting for tills, safes, and ordering stock and monitoring staff levels.
•	Working with extremely tight staffing budgets to keep all stores open from 8am to 8pm.

As a Practice Leader with the Intensive Wraparound Service at the Ministry of Education, I worked directly to inform practice and shape provision change. I have in-depth knowledge and experience in understanding and managing behaviour, attachment, resilience and trauma, family and organisational systems and emotional health and well-being.

I have worked holistically with numerous families, promoting a focus on each family member, the teacher and the child’s school, to achieve positive results that allow the child to reach their full potential. Targeting provision of appropriate resources for children, building rapport with families that are struggling, developing staff teams and supporting differentiation of the curriculum in learning settings has all been a part of the job.

Practice Leader - Intensive Wraparound Service

Brighton and Hove City Council

Managing a challenging patch of schools as an Educational Psychologist with Brighton and Hove City Council, I worked with many schools in the facilitation of training to help teachers and school staff cope with the emotional aspects of teaching and learning. A core part of this role was undertaking wellbeing checks with staff, pupils and parents, and then removing barriers for learning and development through consultations, assessment and intervention. I both designed and delivered training in the education, health and social sector across both organisations and professions. 

Influencing and informing policy, I undertook research and was an active member of working parties to guide local policy in the education sector. This including taking a lead role in the development of the Council’s Local Offer, which was the first to go live in the UK. Utilising a range of modalities, my practice encompassed evidence based psychology and spanned consultation, assessment, hypothesis-generation, intervention, training and research.

During my 3-year doctoral programme in child, educational and community psychology, I provided advice, utilised assessments and developed responsive support and intervention based plans to support client need. I worked across multiple agencies to assist clients achieve their goals. Working at individual, group and organisational level I was able to apply psychological modalities including psychodynamic, systemic and solutions-focused techniques.

Trainee Educational Psychologist

London Borough of Redbridge

As a Care Coordinator I managed a caseload with up to 30 clients, providing end-to-end, wrap around service to support them in the transition into, through and out of drug rehabilitation. A core part of this role was liaising with staff in the criminal justice services and attending multi-agency meetings to ensure clients exit from the service back into the community was successful. 

One of my achievements during this role was running a research project into the housing needs of Redbridge’s DIP clients and feeding this back to a steering group with recommendations.

Care Coordinator - Drug Intervention Program

Essex County Council

With staff reporting directly to me as the Senior Residential Social Worker, I ensured my team provided the children with a safe, secure and enriching environment within a therapeutic framework. I regularly ran groups and focused key work sessions for both staff and young people, to empower them and provide them with the tools they needed to work with each other, and the wider community. 

Working for the council, there was a requirement to provide reports and care plans that met national policy, in addition to attending and chairing statutory and secure reviews.

Working as Clinical Director for the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and Resilience, I am able to provide schools with targeted coaching, facilitation, and support in the field of Positive Education. This helps them to become healthy and happy working environments, where teachers are able to provide the best possible learning outcomes for all of the children they teach.

A bit about me: 

I am a highly experienced, qualified and passionate registered psychologist (kaimātai hauora hinengaro), with over 25 years of experience working across multiple mental health, educational, and organisational settings in both the United Kingdom and Aotearoa, New Zealand. With a Doctorate in Child, Educational and Community Psychology from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, and an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Sussex, my focus over the past 13 years has been on engaging with schools and local government agencies through consultation, training and facilitation to promote better well-being outcomes for students, families and the whole school community.
