Let’s break it down:
Link(Ed) = education, connection, access
Net(Work)ER = doing the work, increasing your net, becoming the responder who moves relationships forward

It’s a philosophy, a strategy, and the title of my upcoming book. (A free course is in the works, too. Stay tuned 📚👀.)

I started as a personal trainer with no marketing budget and no visibility. Before I even named my company Iron Dog Fitness, I had a tough realization: no one knew who I was. That sparked a journey of self-education and strategic experimentation.

I learned that Facebook creates awareness, LinkedIn builds trust, and newsletters keep you top of mind. I built my brand around these pillars, eventually growing from unknown to in-demand — and along the way, I helped others do the same.

As I volunteered with chambers of commerce and nonprofits, I used my newsletter and outreach to revive participation and drive real engagement. One councilmember even asked for my help on his mayoral campaign based on the transformation I sparked in his local chamber. That’s when I knew I wasn’t just promoting myself — I was building a repeatable system.

Today, I run Xocial Gong LLC, a LinkedIn-focused marketing agency for small business owners, startups, and freelancers — people like me, who wear too many hats and have too little time or budget.

Most of my clients don’t need to advertise on LinkedIn. They just need to optimize their profile, apply the right etiquette, and use proven outreach methods to get in the door with decision-makers.

I went from being a gang member...

to personal trainer Entrepreneur 

to training the LAPD's football team as their Head Strength Coach 

Yeah. Read that again.

I rebuilt my entire life as a personal trainer.

Then Covid hit.

And I lost everything. Again. But worse than the 2008 economic collapse 

So I did what I had to do.

Uber. DoorDash. Amazon Flex. Uber Eats. Other gigs. 

Sometimes 16-20-hour days.

And I learned something.

Every penny I earned came from my own grind.

That kept me sane. That kept me proud 😃

But while I was grinding, I noticed something.

I'd been doing marketing for free for years.

by volunteering in various communities and organizations to help them get their message out.

So I thought 🤔  Why not make this a business? 🙃

But here's the thing.

Every marketer says the same stuff.

"We do social. We do ads. We do everything."

Nobody in my local network specialized in one thing.

So I went all in on LinkedIn.

Not "I also do LinkedIn."

THE LinkedIn person. 🙃

Four reinventions later, I'm still here.

And if I've learned anything...

It's that you don't need to do everything.

You need to be the best at one thing.

Every reinvention taught me the same lesson: specialize or blend in.

I started using it to get ideas for my content, but I never used ChatGPT because, in my experience, its knowledge base is outdated. ⏳

I still use AI, but I am not totally dependent on it. 🙅♂️

Sometimes getting ideas from AI gets me past a day of brain fog or writer's block. 💡🧊

I handed my entire digital life to Meta’s new AI… and it built THIS in seconds! 🤯🤖

I’ve been experimenting with Meta's new Manus AI creative features, and I honestly can’t believe the results. 

I wanted to see if it could take the "me" out of my scattered online presence and turn it into a cohesive professional home base.

The Experiment:

I gave Manus AI three simple inputs:

1️⃣ My Facebook profile (for personality/voice)
2️⃣ My LinkedIn (for professional history)
3️⃣ My Portfolio of Services (for what I actually do)

The Prompt:

"Visit my Facebook page. Extract bio, featured stories, popular posts, and product information. Build a landing page: hero section (brand story), service cards (from featured content), social proof (top comments), and contact form. Match my Facebook aesthetic style."

Because my Facebook page is protected by extra security measures, it couldn't access anything despite being public, so I gave it a link to my LinkedIn profile and my "Portfolio of Services" PDF. 🤔💭

The Result:

The struggle is real, raw, and what actually makes success mean something. 

So if you're in the middle of the ride right now, white-knuckling the safety bar, keep going. 

The view from the top hits different when you earn every single inch of it. 🙌

Today's Hot take 🔥: I just read an article on Entrepreneur titled "Networking Got Me Nowhere. Here's the Smarter Alternative." and I have to respectfully disagree! 🙅‍♂️🗣️

The author argues that we should ditch traditional networking in favor of building deep, genuine human connections (like being interested instead of interesting, and playing the long game).

My take? Why not both?! 🤝

Networking isn't the enemy. It's the introduction and everything you do the minute you come face to face with someone new at a networking event! 

You can absolutely go out, shake hands, and meet new people, while ALSO focusing on building authentic, human relationships with them rather than just aggressively pitching yourself (Don't be the business card 'Pusher')!

Using this combined approach of active networking + genuine connection-building has been the ultimate game-changer for my new business. 

Here is the proof:

🌱 The Short Game: I’ve gained amazing new business from people I didn't even know until very recently, all thanks to putting myself out there and networking.

🌳 The Long Game: People I met way back when I first started networking in 2008 have recently become clients! 

Why? Because networking brought them into my orbit, and genuine connection meant we kept in touch for over 15 years.

You don’t have to stop networking to build a community. Networking plants the seeds; authentic connection grows the tree!🌱🌳

So why do so many people still use LinkedIn like it's the Yellow Pages? 

Every day, you see it:

👉🏾 Copy-paste messages.

Here's the ugly truth.

Here's what actually works for me:

1️⃣ I read their recent posts. Actually read. Not just skim. 👀
2️⃣ I leave a comment that shows some thought. Something only someone who paid attention would say. 💬
3️⃣ I connect with a short note, no pitch. Just, "Saw your post about XYZ, made me think (or what I loved about the post). Looking forward to learning more."
4️⃣ I keep showing up. Comment. Like. Share if it makes sense. 🔄
5️⃣ Only after a real conversation do I ask if there's a way I can help. Or if my work could solve a problem. 🤔💭

You know the result? My calendar's busy. Not with freebie-seekers or people who can't remember sending the invite. But with founders, business owners, and decision-makers who actually want to talk. 🎯

People respond to people. Not to generic scripts.

Start with the decision, not the story.
Anticipate objections before they’re raised.
Pre-wire key stakeholders before the meeting. Surprises kill approvals.
Keep slides simple enough that they don’t need narration.
Control the room. Pause after your ask. Let silence work.
Most decks fail because they try to look smart.

Approved decks are built to reduce risk, show clarity, and make saying yes feel safe.

Your deck isn't losing deals.

One slide will win approval in 60 seconds:

Most leaders overload slides with data.

Charts. Background. Ten bullet points.

Then they ask, “Any questions?”

I used to do the same.

In banking, I walked into a steering meeting with 25 slides.

I left with “We’ll get back to you.”

No decision.

Everything changed when I learned the decision slide.

Instead of explaining everything, I showed four things:

• The decision we needed  
• The recommended option  
• The impact in numbers  
• The risk of doing nothing  

One slide.

Clear ask at the top.

Three options side by side.

Cost, timeline, risk in one line each.

At the bottom: “Approval today keeps launch on April 1.”

The room shifted.

Leaders focus on trade-offs.

When you show trade-offs in one view, you reduce friction.

You guide attention.

You make the next step obvious.

This approach prevents endless follow-ups.

It avoids “circle back next week.”

Before your next presentation, build a single slide titled “Decision.”

Write the exact approval you want in one sentence.

List options with numbers only.

End with the consequence of delay.

Then stop talking.

Watch how fast you hear “Yes.”

Close the loop in 60 seconds.

You've rehearsed your presentation eleven times. That's not preparation. That's self-sabotage.

I know that sounds harsh. Stay with me.

A senior programme manager came to me after six years of presenting to clients. She'd spent 14 hours preparing a 15-minute presentation. Rehearsed it until she could recite every transition from memory.

She walked into that room more terrified than she'd ever been.

Here's what most people get wrong about presentation anxiety: they assume preparation and confidence have a linear relationship. More prep, less fear. It sounds logical. It's also wrong.

Preparation follows a curve. Early preparation builds confidence rapidly — you understand your content, structure your argument, know your key messages. Each hour invested makes you measurably better.

Then the curve inverts.

Beyond a threshold — usually around the third rehearsal — more preparation actively damages your performance. Three psychological mechanisms kick in:

1. Your brain registers the memorised version as "correct." Any deviation — a stumbled word, a missed phrase — now feels catastrophic.

2. Rigid rehearsal kills adaptability. When someone interrupts with a question, you can't find your place again. Panic follows.

3. And your subconscious draws a conclusion: "If I need to prepare this much, this must be dangerous." The preparation intensity itself signals threat.

The fix isn't less preparation. It's different preparation.

Bullet frameworks instead of scripts. Varied practice instead of identical repetition. Three rehearsals maximum. Know your message, not your words.

The presenters who appear most confident aren't the ones who prepared longest. They're the ones who stopped at the right point.

Your next presentation doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be understood. Those are fundamentally different standards — and only one of them will let you sleep the night before.

I've sat through hundreds of executive Q&A sessions. The ones who handle them brilliantly all do the same three things — and none of them involve having better answers.

1. They pause to categorise before they speak.

Most presenters hear a question and start talking immediately. Senior executives hear the same question and wait two full seconds.

Not because they're searching for an answer. Because they're categorising. Is this a financial question? A risk question? A stakeholder alignment question?

Once you know the category, you know the response structure. You're not rummaging through 30 rehearsed answers hoping one fits. You're pulling from one of five frameworks.

The audience reads that pause as composure. It's actually a system.

2.  They reframe before they respond.

A hostile question sounds worse than it is — until someone restates it neutrally.

"If I understand correctly, you're asking whether…"

That one sentence removes the hostility, gives you control of the framing, and buys you another few seconds to think. Most "difficult" questions are legitimate concerns wrapped in frustrated delivery. The reframe separates the concern from the emotion — and puts you back in charge of the conversation.

3.  They acknowledge uncertainty without losing authority.

When they don't know, they don't waffle. They don't guess. They use three sentences:

"That's a fair question — I don't have the exact figure in front of me." "I'll confirm and send it to you by end of day." "What I can tell you is [related point they do know]."

Acknowledge. Bridge. Commit.

Directors respect honesty over improvisation. What they don't respect is guessing — because at board level, they can always tell.

These aren't presentation skills. They're Q&A skills. Different discipline entirely. And the one most professionals never practise.

She approved £8 million on Slide 3. She never looked at Slide 4.

Six months earlier, the same CFO had rejected the exact same project. Same team. Same numbers. Same business case.

The difference was one slide.

Slide 3 had four things the original version didn't: 
— A specific ask: decision, amount, date in one sentence. 
— One consequence of inaction. External. Quantified. Time-bound. 
— Proof of feasibility from the project owner — not the sponsor. 
— A deadline anchored to something immovable. Not internal urgency.

The decision was made in the room. Project launched on schedule three months later.
