I was packing my office when Brad walked in.

Helping 100,000 Black Women Close the Pay Gap in 5 Years | Speaker | Strategist | Founder of Thank You; It’s True™

That's what I charged when I called it a salary.

Then I started calling it consulting.

Companies selling B2B are finding it harder and harder to make their numbers. Competition is increasing, customers are cutting back and taking longer to make decisions. 

Companies waste vast amounts of time and money chasing deals that aren't properly qualified, working at low levels in prospects that will never buy, answering RFPs to make up the numbers and forecasting deals that will never close.

One way to overcome these problems is to sell more strategically at a higher level. But the "C" Level executives who set budgets and make decisions are becoming busier and busier. They are bombarded with emails and calls and it's increasingly difficult to get through to them.

At Moss & Hooper we helped companies like Hothouse, Oracle and IBM overcome these problems and sell more. We helped them to schedule more meetings with senior executives and turn them into genuine strategic sales opportunities.

This role was something of a detour in the journey of my career. By a strange coincidence I finished a client assignment in December 2009 and went to the UK for Christmas. The day after I returned an old Burroughs colleague contacted me and asked me if I'd like to manage a project in Darwin for him for a few months.

It's not what I normally do (although I used to aeons ago) but as it was the holiday period and my normal clients were all away, and as I'd never worked in Darwin I thought "why not"? (And it paid really well too).

And it was interesting and fun. The project was remediating software in 8 shires throughout the NT and included visits to Alice Springs and Katherine, staying in Darwin, working with a nice (and very competent) bunch of people and getting 8 shires, each spanning about 100,000 square miles or more, live.

It was a successful project, an interesting experience and I made some good friends but I was glad to get back to my normal sales and marketing consulting role - and back to my lovely wife in Sydney.

One of my consulting clients on a six month contract. Inpho provides Premium SMS services, Premium IVR services and telecommunications services to a variety of corporate and private clients. Inpho is a telecommunications aggregator with links to all the Australian and New Zealand carriers. I worked with them as General Manager during a period of particular turmoil in the industry and in the company.

Sales managers & sales directors of B2B companies that sell high value stuff often tell their salespeople to sell at a higher level and to get more meetings with "senior decision makers"? Or as I call it, they want them be better at "Selling at C level".

The problems are:

1. Most salespeople (and marketing "lead"generation programs) are rubbish at getting meetings with senior executives in target companies. 
2. When a salesperson does get in front of a senior decision maker - particularly at C level - they usually stuff it up. When asked, C level decision makers say more than 80% of sales meetings are a waste of their time & offer them little or no value.

The result - no second meetings, lost sales, wasted time, wasted opportunity, missed quota, massive mental & emotional pressure on all concerned, sackings, resignation & high salesforce turnover. Everyone loses.

I help my clients fix those problems.

I’m connected through LinkedIn with many of the world’s leading sales coaches and sales leaders. I read their articles and share information with them. I also write my own articles – take a look because they tell you a lot about my philosophy.

Practically I’ve sold to senior executives in the FTSE 100, ASX 100, the NASDAQ, the Dow Jones and the S&P 500. As global sales and marketing director for an Australian ERP I’ve worked and sold in more than 30 countries in every continent – except Antarctica – and in a wide variety of industries.

The very best corporations – Apple, Virgin, Tesla – have a corporate narrative that strengthens their brand, helps command attention and helps them gain access to decision makers. They talk about customers, problems, solutions in a flowing narrative.

Every company has a story but sadly few tell it well. They talk about themselves, their products, features and benefits and guess what – outside their walls no-one cares.
