My journey to where I am today brought with it one significant lesson:

When we feel disconnected, stuck or unfulfilled, we need to stop looking to external sources for direction—we need to look inward to find our way forward.

At first, I just felt like something was missing.

I'd accomplished so much.
Titles, recognition and salary—check.
Personal life and relationships—check (for the most part).

But then, this nagging feeling popped up. 
"Is this all there is?"

Maybe it's age. 
Maybe it's the high-achiever in me.

Here's what I was longing for...
-Feeling confident to just be myself and release the need for external validation. 
-Enjoying the moments rather than overthinking the past or worrying about the future.
-Building something that's mine, gives me autonomy and brings more purpose into my life.

What helped me to start creating the life and career I want didn't come from other people. 
It came from tuning out the noise and trusting my intuition.
It came from me letting go of impossible standards.

Part of my journey has been in tandem with my clients' journeys.
I noticed a pattern when I started coaching more and more women.
I started to hear my stories and struggles echoed in my clients' experiences.

As high-achieving women, we—
-Seek answers, guidance and direction outside of ourselves.
-Struggle with perfectionism, overthinking and self-doubt, which holds us back.
-Strive to speak up and be true to ourselves and yet, we feel torn and put others first.

Having felt the freedom and sense of empowerment in overcoming these challenges a bit more each day, I've found purpose in helping other women do the same.

-Moving family back to a state she loved, to be with friends and family after feeling stuck for 13 years

I was born in Tehran, Iran.
My earliest memories include bomb sirens.

Women's rights were disappearing in real time.
Wearing this hijab was not my choice.

The lesson?
Your body, your voice, your freedom can be treated like they belong to someone else.

My parents sacrificed everything to get me out.
To give me safety, choice, and freedom.

And yet, years later, I found myself in corporate rooms where the message was familiar.

Be agreeable.
Don’t push back.
Watch your tone.
Don’t challenge him.

It's infuriating.

I’m not here to be palatable.
I’m not here to manage a delicate ego.

I’m here to be fully expressed.

And it’s exactly why I do this work.
Because I watch women edit themselves daily.

Strong, capable, radiant women conditioned to:

Swallow the truth.
Soften the sentence.
Question themselves into silence.

With labels.
With consequences.
With the suffocating pressure to be invisible.

I’m done shrinking.
And I’m done watching other women shrink.

I was enraged on Monday...  By a woman.
The day after #IWD26.
 
She commented on a LinkedIn post last week.
Said she's never faced gender bias. 
Doesn't know anyone who has.
 
Instead of writing her off, I offered to connect. 
To hear her story.
 
What followed was a masterclass in privilege.
 
She invalidated every woman
whose experience looked different from her own.
 
Blamed us for what happens at work.
 
Said, "There's no such thing as a glass ceiling."
 
In doing so — she displayed the very thing keeping equality gaps alive.
 
BIAS.
 
The thing about bias is that it's often unconscious.
 
We cannot dismantle what we don't acknowledge exists.

Something magical happens when a group of women with generous spirits meets in person.

It goes beyond networking into something deeper and more meaningful.

Self-love sounds simple.
A sound bath reminded me how hard it actually is.
 
Before the first bowl hummed to life,
We were given a sheet with reflection questions.
 
All centered around self-love.
 
One felt like a wake up call.
 
Where do I need more grace instead of pressure?
 
I didn't have to search for the answer.
It was already there.

Five times over.
 
Sometimes my inner critic is so loud,
The rest of me is drowned out.
 
And I see this every day in the women I work with.
 
Self-love is hard for us.
It can feel almost… unnatural.
 
Not because we don’t deserve it.
Because we’ve been trained to pour.
 
Into work.
Into family.
Into responsibility.
Into being the one who holds it all.
 
A visualization made it real for me:
 
Picture a glowing green light around your heart chakra.
Pour into yourself what you pour into everyone else.
 
That last sentence has been following me around.
I hope it stays with you too.
 
Let this be your reminder.
 
Whatever your week looks like:
 
The deadlines
The to-do lists
The showing up for everyone else…
 
Pause here for just a moment.
 
Where do you need more grace instead of pressure?
 
You don't have to search for the answer.
It's already there.

This may ruffle feathers.
Many call themselves coaches. Not all are coaching you.

They're actually mentoring you and calling it coaching.

That robs you of the benefits of coaching.

Coaching is not about guiding you.
It's not about fixing you.

It's about helping you see your own potential.
It's about learning to trust yourself and tune inward.
It's about pursuing your own path to achieve greater fulfillment.

You have the answers you seek.

A pattern I see with so many of my clients: 

They don’t hold back because they’re unsure.
They hold back because they know it might challenge someone’s perspective.
 
They can already predict the response:
 
The shift in energy.
The defensiveness.
The subtle pushback.
 
So they edit themselves in real time.
 
Soften.
Add disclaimers.
Over-explain.
Or say nothing.
 
And then they leave the conversation with that familiar mix:
regret + frustration + “why didn’t I just say it?”

The problem isn’t that they don’t have a voice.
It’s that they’ve learned it’s safer to keep it small.

But here's the rub:
⛔ It costs us more to stay quiet and play small than it does to speak up.

Use these 3 steps to break this cycle:

1. Recognize your pattern of when you hold back 
2. Ask yourself if you'll regret it if you don't speak up
3. Practice 3 seconds of courage and speak up before, during, or soon after

Pro Tip: The pattern is often related to feeling powerless, a desire to help/care for others, or fear of being seen as difficult.

The fastest way a woman gets labeled as “difficult” is…
When she stops being agreeable.
 
When she stops smoothing things over.
When she stops saying yes when she means no.
When she stops disregarding her needs so other people stay comfortable.
 
But here’s the truth:
 
Not being agreeable doesn’t make you difficult.
It makes you clear.

A woman who has preferences isn’t “high maintenance.”
A woman who asks questions isn’t “challenging.”
A woman who says, “That doesn’t work for me,” isn’t “a problem.”
 
She’s choosing self-respect over approval.

I’ve been labeled "difficult" for being clear.
And for a while, I believed it.

So I softened.
I over-explained.
I made myself smaller.

Then I remembered something I wish women were taught earlier:
You’re not responsible for how people react to you.
 
Clarity isn’t difficult.
Boundaries aren’t difficult.
Self-respect isn’t difficult.
 
If you’ve been conditioned to be agreeable, you might feel uncomfortable the first few times you’re direct.
 
That discomfort isn’t proof you did something wrong.
It’s proof you’re doing something new.

I'm done apologizing for who I am. 
Aren't you?
 
♀️ What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve been labeled for… just for having a boundary?

If this struck a nerve, this is what I do: help high-achieving women stop shrinking so they can speak up and take up space - because you deserve a life that feels unapologetically yours.

You know how to be productive.
But do you know how to just be...still?

The duality of doing vs. being comes up often with my clients.

I struggle with it myself.

We're really good at: 

Figuring out what actions we need to take.
Adding to our to-do list.
Getting shit done.

We struggle to:  

Prioritize well-being.
Be still. 
Rest. 

R & R = reward for accomplishing the thing.

Right?!

Nope.

Here's what I've learned to do and teach my clients -

Redefine success to include well-being.

So you can:

Stop beating yourself up for not doing the thing. 
Start prioritizing rest and just being still.

That's not selfish.

It's self-care.

♀️ What do you hesitate to give yourself permission to do?

For most of my career, I was seen as a thorn - by both men and women - for leading boldly.

My approach was always driven by a deep desire to have an impact with my team.

But it was misinterpreted as being controlling, aggressive, and even selfish.

Speaking up and sharing the difficult truths resulted in being chastised and undermined.

Sharing unpopular opinions resulted in being singled out and told to know my place.

Challenging norms resulted in being told I was wrong and that I needed to edit myself.

The very things that would be celebrated in male leaders were what they question in me.

The mental and emotional toll was immense.

It was isolating and exhausting.

We need to stop punishing strong, capable, driven women.

We need to change the systems and structures that allow gender bias to prevail.

We say we want women who lead, speak up, and drive change.

We post about equality and empowerment every 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣’𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮.

But when those women actually show up in real rooms, the reaction can be very different.

For many ambitious women, the real challenge isn’t competence.

It’s how people respond to that competence once it has a voice and a spine.

The women who actually move things forward are rarely described as  “𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝”.

They are the ones who:
• challenge ideas when something doesn’t feel right
• stand firmly by their convictions
• refuse to laugh off a “joke” that crossed a line.
• say what needs to be said, even when it makes the room uncomfortable
• refuse to compromise on the quality of their work

From the outside, that looks like strength.

But it also attracts a different kind of story.

Suddenly, people stop talking about the work and start criticising the woman doing it
 
• Her tone gets analysed.
• Her leadership is labelled as “controlling”.
• Her discipline becomes a joke about “having no life”.

Over time, that takes a toll on her energy and mental health

Yet, underneath all of this, there is rarely a desire to dominate a room.

More often, it is simply a woman who cares deeply about doing things properly.

A woman who believes responsibility matters.

On this Women’s Day, I’m thinking less about pretty slogans
and more about the women who choose 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 even when it makes them “difficult”.

So perhaps the real question is this:
Are we truly ready for strong women at work, or do we only celebrate them in theory?

We talk about executive presence, but not about physical embodiment of how we show up.

I love what Michelle Sams shares here.

It's not about portraying something you're not. 

Using these cues, you can intentionally show up fully as you are.

The stronger your sense of self, the more powerfully and authentically you can physically show up.

♀️ What helps you show up authentically?

Most leaders underestimate how quickly they’re evaluated.

Before someone reads your website, understand your offer, or review your credentials. They assess your presence.

Not consciously, but instinctively.
Your eye contact.
Your posture.
Your environment.
The consistency of your visual identity.
The emotional tone you carry.

These cues signal something long before you speak:
Stability.
Clarity.
Authority.
Or uncertainty.

If your leadership has evolved but your visuals haven’t, there’s a disconnect.
And in business, disconnect creates hesitation.

At a certain level, brand imagery isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about alignment.
When your presence matches the level you operate at, trust accelerates.

If someone landed on your profile today, what would your presence signal about you?

I haven't been able to capture it yet, but my new fav thing: Penny and Abby giving each other kisses.
