Over the past decade, I've built three multimillion-dollar businesses while growing a family and raising four children.

I started with no resources, no connections, and didn’t have access to the playbooks that would have made the journey 10X easier. 

As a kid, I made money garden landscaping for families at church, manufacturing merchandise for private clubs, and then developing websites and running ad campaigns for local companies.

By 21, I was founding companies. In the decade since, I've:

➤ Served over 3 million customers globally
➤ Helped grow hundreds of small businesses
➤ Raised $30M+ in capital from Angels, VCs, Private Equity, and Family Offices
➤ Successfully navigated both successful and failed multimillion-dollar acquisitions
➤ Been featured in leading publications like Forbes, Bloomberg, Entrepreneur, USA Today and more
➤ Worked with and advised the world's most iconic brands, including Diageo, Mars, Tesco, 7-Eleven, AB-InBev, Molson Coors, and Constellation

BUT, the journey was hard (harder than it needed to be).

I’ve faced many of the things you don't think about when starting a company:

→ Fought off (and won) predatory lawsuits
→ Closed a Seed round days after my wedding
→ Negotiated with demanding government agencies
→ Worked with lobbyists to introduce or change legislation
→ Raised a Series A while in the hospital for my first son's birth
→ Navigated a failed multi-million dollar merger while my daughter was born
→ Survived near-extinction events where we had single-digit weeks or days to save the company

Personal interests: Boxing, strength training, being in the ocean, spending quality time with my wife Danielle and our four little ones.

Bad decisions rarely come from bad strategy.

They come from tired judgment.

I’ve seen great leaders make terrible calls at 4 PM. 
Same problem at 10 AM? Solved in minutes.

Same person. Same issue. Totally different outcome.

We track everything in business. 
Revenue. Headcount. Pipeline.

Nobody tracks when their brain is actually working.

Your best decisions need your best energy. 

Not whatever’s left after six meetings and a skipped lunch.

Protect your peak hours.

Schedule decisions, not just meetings.

We almost didn’t hire her.

Her resume wasn’t the strongest in the pile.

Someone else had better numbers. Better schools. Cleaner experience.

But in the interview, she asked a question that stopped the room.

Not a smart question. Just an honest one. 

The kind where you think — wait, why don’t we do it that way?

We hired her anyway.

Six months later, she found a pricing assumption that had been sitting in our business for two years. 

Nobody had touched it. 
Nobody had questioned it. 
It just lived there, quietly costing us money.

She wasn’t the most skilled person on the team.

She was just the most curious.

And in a business that’s been running a while, curiosity is rare. 

Everyone gets comfortable. 
Everyone stops asking why. 
The assumptions pile up. 
The blind spots grow.

She didn’t know enough to stop asking. That turned out to be her superpower.

I think about hiring differently now.

Skills matter. Experience matters.

But the person who’s still genuinely curious — still asking the obvious question nobody else will ask — that person will outperform the perfect resume almost every time.

Hire for curiosity. It’s harder to teach than anything on a CV.

Most people wait for motivation like it's coming in the mail.

It never arrives.

I used to plan everything perfectly. 

But then when I realized nothing moved forward,  I started blocking 30 minutes each morning to just begin.

Momentum showed up after I did.

The most successful people are the ones who turn dreams into time blocks and follow through.

◾️Dream = a goal you think about. 
◾️Objective = a goal with a deadline.
◾️Intention = a goal with a deadline and a plan.
◾️Success = a goal with a deadline, a plan and action.

If you want a better year, don't just ask: "What do I want?"

Ask: "What am I willing to schedule and do, even when I don't feel ready?"

What's one thing you can block 30 minutes for this week?

I rarely feel ready either.

Today, Chicago feels quieter.

You don't need work-life balance.

You need a system.

Chasing "balance" turns your life into a permanent audit.

Am I working too much? Am I being present enough? Why can't I manage this better?

When everything must be "equal," you're always a little behind. And always carrying guilt.

Work and life aren't opposites. They're one system.

Your stress follows you home. Your home life shows up in your decisions. Trying to separate them is just exhausting.

Integration is the actual goal.

Not hustle culture. Not "work is life." Something quieter than both.

Here's what that looks like:

1. No meetings before 10.

2. Build buffers between intense calls and family time.

3. Treat rest like maintenance, not something you have to earn.

4. Create a shutdown ritual so work doesn't follow you into the evening.

5. Design small systems, not big promises.

Most burnout is caused by living with no transitions, no recovery, no intentional design.

The people who thrive long-term stop treating work and life as competing interests and start treating their entire existence as something worth designing.

Balance is a negotiation. Integration is a decision.

Where do your transitions currently break, and what's the first boundary you'll design this week?

Most early-career pros don’t hate “office politics.” 

They hate feeling outplayed by conversations they weren’t in.

They call it politics but it’s really the emotional economy of trust.

Here are 7 quiet habits that help you rise early:

1) Relationships aren’t built when you need them. Show up in neutral seasons. Check in, help, and say thanks before you ever ask.

2) Good work doesn’t speak for itself. Silence is expensive. Make impact visible with short updates, clear metrics, and quick demos.

3) Speak in trade-offs. If we optimize for speed, we lose accuracy. If we optimize for accuracy, the launch moves. That’s leadership language.

4) Decisions happen before the meeting. Pre-align with a few people who matter. The room is the performance, not the rehearsal.

5) Be careful who you vent to. Some store your words, not your interests. Protect your future reputation.

6) Don’t correct a senior in public. Even if you’re right. Try: “One nuance I’m seeing is…” Then follow up privately with details.

7) Likeability is not optional. Competence gets you hired. Likeability gets you protected. Be reliable, curious, and easy to back.

Navigate this with integrity and you won’t be “political.” 

You’ll be effective.

What’s one unwritten rule you wish you knew in your first year?

Your calendar doesn’t show your priorities.

It shows what got through.

Someone needed five minutes. 
A meeting got added. 
A decision that actually mattered got moved to next week. Again.

This eventually becomes an access problem.

The operators I respect most have figured out how to protect their thinking.

Office hours instead of open doors. A memo before every meeting. 
A pre-read so no one walks in cold.

Small changes. But they add up to something big.

Your best work doesn’t happen when you’re available to everyone.

It happens when you’re finally available to yourself.

Nobody explains how the game changes as you level up.

1. Early career - you’re paid for effort. Show up. Work hard. Put in the hours.

2. Mid career- you’re paid for skill. What you know starts to matter more than how long you stayed.

3. Senior roles - you’re paid for reduction of uncertainty. Your job is to make the path clearer for everyone around you.

Nobody promotes you into the new game.

You just wake up in it one day.

The people who struggle in senior roles?

They’re still playing the effort game.

Which stage are you navigating right now?

Meetings are not communication.

Everyone heard the same words.

Almost no one left with the same interpretation.

End every meeting with three questions:

Who owns it?
By when?
What does done look like?

Clarity is free.

Most teams just refuse to use it.

Nobody tells you this about corporate life:

There is no scoreboard.

Work hard. Hit deadlines. Be “great.”

Still won’t know where you stand.

That silence accumulates and it’s exhausting.

Performance improves with feedback.

Anxiety grows in silence.

Forget the think pieces.​
