Exclusive Global License for Silicone Hygiene's Castor Wheel Cover
We currently hold a UK Patent (GB2561032) on the Cover and have a Patent Co-operation Treaty Application (PCT/GB2018/052206) for the same product pending in 152 other jurisdictions including the EU, USA, China, South Korea and Japan.
The Cover is designed to prevent contamination of castor wheels.  The market comprises of Food, Materials Handling, Pharmaceutical, Biological, Medical, Automotive, Aerospace, Optical, Nanotechnology and Military industries as well as Laboratory and Research facilities.
In short, any facility where castor mounted units are required to perform in hygienic, sterile and cleanroom environments.
We are looking for an organisation to take on the exclusive Global License to manufacture, distribute, market and sell the Cover. The UK Food Standards Authority is currently investigating possible involvement. The Cover allows organisations to create another income stream separate, but complementary, to their core business.
There is a sound business case for customers using my Castor Wheel Cover, apart from the obvious social responsibility advantages.
The Cover solves a known and quantifiable need.
The Cover is backed and necessitated by the Regulators.
The Cover as it has a repeat global customer base.
The Cover helps organisations reduce their water and chemical usage.
The Cover is manufactured from recycled materials and is itself fully recyclable.
The Cover can be re-manufactured as part of an organisations current recycling process.
With independently verified potential global sales of 94+ Billion units in just the Food Industry there is a good return to be made by helping End Users work smarter.

Founder

Castor mounted units are often used by many organisations within hygiene and cleanroom areas. This invention is an after-market, injection moulded, fitted and self-sealing Castor Wheel Cover manufactured from clear or coloured Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR), or Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE), which makes the cleaning of equipment for use in high level hygiene environments more time efficient and sanitary.

The cover is design to prevent contamination of castor wheels within; food, pharmaceutical, biological, medical, automotive, aerospace, optical, nanotechnology and military industries. As well as laboratory and research facilities. 

Dishwasher and autoclave safe, the cover could be offered in four colours and clear: white for cleanroom applications, orange (ISO FF7900 ) for safety, metallic silver to mimic stainless steel for aesthetic considerations and grey to match industry standard flooring colours. Custom colour matching and logo embossing will be offered as an option.

At the end of a shift, or in the event of contamination, the user can easily remove the cover, put it through a dishwasher or Autoclave, and replace the cover saving valuable time; steam cleaning a 4 wheeled unit normally takes 12 – 15 minutes, but by using the cover it would only take 1 cleaning cycle (5 mins) of a dishwasher or autoclave to do the 12 wheels of 3 units, ensuring the units are fully regulatory compliant. 

No more contaminated castor wheels. 

Given a potential Licensees current business profile the only capital investment would be the tooling costs. And the cover is designed for a one step fully automated manufacturing process to save on those costs.

International Patent Owner

I came up with the concept and design for the Cover while I was on Gardening Leave from managing part of a Manufacturers Sportscar Team.

A friend who owns a restaurant nearby asked me to come in and cover for his injured Chef. When I first left school I completed an apprenticeship as a Chef de Cuisine.
Over the course of the 6 weeks I was reminded of the difficulty in keep equipment hygienically clean, especially the castor wheels and specifically those under fryers.
I searched for a solution and couldn’t find one.

Consequently, I set about developing a solution, eventually settling on a flexible, all encompassing, easily removed and cleaned Cover. I involved other chefs and my local Head of Environmental Health, Kevin Gosling, in the design process to ensure that the Cover performed as required and confirm that a market exists.

Even after my extensive searching I was still surprised when the patent search conducted by the UKIPO came back confirming that I was the first person on the planet to propose this solution.

Along with my IP Attorney, Dr Tom Gibb, we set about securing a UK patent, and through the WIPO, a global patent for 152 countries including the EU, USA, China, Japan and Korea. The Patent allows for the design to be adapted to fit all castor wheels including double-wheeled and side brake models.

Once the patent was registered and was protected I set about discussing the Cover with as many Kitchen Managers and staff, Equipment Manufacturers, Catering Suppliers, EHO Managers and Inspectors, Global H&S Regulators, Polymer Compilers and Plastics Manufacturers as I could find; to fine tune the design.

Informed by these discussions; improvements to the original design are currently being prepared as a new Global Patent application. These improvements and new patents, and any subsequent ones, are to be part of the Licensing Agreement I am offering.
