What's one thing you're giving yourself 30 seconds of courage to do this year?

I didn't need more motivation.

I needed better systems.

Motivation fades.

Systems stick.

I learned this the hard way when I opened Lure Agency over 13 years ago.

Early on, I'd get pumped after a conference or big win. 

Then life would hit, energy would drop, and momentum would stall.

The shift happened when I partnered with Susan Tucker and stopped relying on feeling inspired, and we started building repeatable processes.

Here's what changed:

→ Morning routines became non-negotiable, not mood-dependent.

→ Team meetings followed agendas, not vibes.

→ Client strategy calls are more strategic, less winging it.

→ Delivering services moved to a structured, repeatable framework that produces positive outcomes in less time.

Every hotel Salesperson when that 2-day meeting asks for space availability every day for the next 6 months...

Don't get me wrong, having alternative dates is a great thing. But not having a date in mind and asking someone to provide a large swath of availability options isn't reasonable.

Plugging a proverbial puzzle piece into the greater picture takes time.

When I re-entered hospitality after being a business owner, I knew exactly what I wanted:  
👉 Director of Sales & Marketing.  
Not “someday.” Not “maybe.” 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘫𝘰𝘣.
 
So I made a plan. Not a sexy one. A boring, effective one.
 
𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭: 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳  
Before chasing titles, I chased credibility.  Hit my numbers. Learned the building. Learned the people. Learned how I 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 show up under pressure.  Hardest part? Patience.  I wanted the job yesterday. Instead, I played the long game. One year. No shortcuts.
 
𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮: 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄  
Supportive coworkers are nice.  Your boss is who matters.  I didn’t ask for a promotion, I asked to 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 one. Turns out, that matters. Take an active role in being mentored.
 
𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟯: 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗮𝗸𝗮: 𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝗬𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝘁) 
More markets. More responsibilities. More meetings.  
Airline crews? Yep. Conventions? Absolutely.  Ask for a raise? Nope. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦.
 
𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟰: 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘁  
After about three years, I stopped waiting politely and made my case.  Promotion secured. 🎉  

𝘽𝙤𝙣𝙪𝙨: People hear about your reputation. Next thing I know, I'm interviewing for my dream job at LondonHouse Chicago. And as they say, the rest is history.
 
Moral of the story:  Play the long game. Put the work in. Experience over money.
 
What phase are you in right now?

As both an employee and an entrepreneur, I've found a concept with crossover that can lead to success.

It's skin in the game. 
 
The best way to describe this is what's at stake. If you're an employee, you're playing with the house money so to speak. An entrepreneur is playing with their own money. The risks and rewards are greater. 
 
I believe you can have skin in the game as an employee as well with those same risks and rewards. 
 
Two words: Personal Accountability 
 
𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴. 

Are you willing to stick your neck out there? Take on tasks others won't to gain "niche knowledge"? Actively seek ways to stand out from the rest? 
 
Owning your work publicly takes nerves of steel. Failures are scrutinized more intensely. Heck, just taking on extra work is scrutinized. 
 
But the rewards are:
