I opened my spam folder and found a ton of "just circling back" emails and one gem that started with "Dear {FirstName}."

Seriously?

First things first, I appreciate people shooting their shot. 

I'm in sales too.  

But a cold pitch before 9am on a Monday morning already

Sidelines you. Reduces your chances...significantly.  

But then...when called out on the lack of human interaction,

There's a few lessons to learn here: 

1.  Foreplay is an excellent description of the BARE MINIMUM you should do if you're trying to pitch someone. She's not wrong there.  Pitching in the absence of relationships is hollow and salesy.

You better warm me up. 

I'm not just a piece of sales meat!

2. Poor pitches dilute your brand and your product/service.  You're actually undoing everything you're trying to build here. People can see straight through it. 

3. You are at your best on LinkedIn when you are organic, natural, human.  When you shift into a robotic, utilitarian mindset, removing the human element, you become desperate. And we can all smell a desperate salesperson. 

4. Had the sexes been reversed, can you imagine how a woman would've received such a message? It would've been wildly inappropriate. 
Why? Because it's inappropriate.  Don't do that. 

Well, happy Tuesday.  

Go shoot your shot. 

Sell your ass off. 

But be human. 

Sell the way you want to be sold to.
