I very much enjoy speaking, teaching, and sharing things I've learned with others.

The root of Cory’s passion for the connected nature of tech enhancing the future of work began in the early 2000s in robotics research initiatives for the FedEx Institute of Technology. He went on to pioneer mobile helping enterprises develop strategies to mobilize staff workflows and collaboration in the pre-enterprise project management app era of “BYOD to work” in the mid-2010s. Seeing the promise of physical and digital integration, Cory brought physical products to life leading the Connected Technologies division at a hardware development firm. Beginning in 2018 Cory began researching and leading the Future of Work at Gigster as VP of Product and Research advocating for leveling outdated hierarchical structures within organizations. Cory is a futurist with the goal to continuously question the status quo. His research answers the questions that will define how the innovations of today will impact the work of tomorrow.

The "death of coding" is a distraction. What we’re actually seeing is the unmasking of engineering.

For decades, we’ve used syntax fluency as a proxy for technical competence. If you could manage memory in C++ or write complex boilerplate without checking the docs, you were considered "Senior."

But that wasn’t engineering. That was just the friction required to get the job done.

Now that Copilots have driven the marginal cost of syntax to near zero, that mask has fallen off. And the result is a ruthless reprioritization of what actually matters in our discipline.

We are moving from an era of Writing to an era of Verification.

When code generation is instant, the bottleneck shifts entirely to review. The "Senior" engineer is no longer the one who types the fastest, but the one who can look at an AI-generated block and instantly spot the subtle logic error or security hallucination.

The ability to architect a system is now the primary guardrail. Because generating code is free, it's faster than ever to create a mess, unmaintainable architecture that quickly becomes a big ball of mud. The discipline to enforce modularity and clean interfaces is the only thing standing between us and total chaos.

And perhaps most importantly, Problem Decomposition has replaced rote memorization. If you can’t break a complex business requirement into atomic, logical constraints, you can’t prompt an agent to solve it.

The Coder—whose value was wrapped up in syntax—is facing a crisis. But the Engineer—who understands constraints, data flow, and intent—has never been more valuable.

The job isn't disappearing. It’s just finally becoming what it was always supposed to be.
