Washed software engineer that was better at telling stories and painting visions that writing code. I usually find myself working in research or innovation teams due to attention deficient and boredom with solvable problems. I very much enjoy speaking, teaching, and sharing things I've learned with others.

The root of Cory’s passion for the connected nature of tech enhancing the future of work began in the early 2000s in robotics research initiatives for the FedEx Institute of Technology. He went on to pioneer mobile helping enterprises develop strategies to mobilize staff workflows and collaboration in the pre-enterprise project management app era of “BYOD to work” in the mid-2010s. Seeing the promise of physical and digital integration, Cory brought physical products to life leading the Connected Technologies division at a hardware development firm. Beginning in 2018 Cory began researching and leading the Future of Work at Gigster as VP of Product and Research advocating for leveling outdated hierarchical structures within organizations. Cory is a futurist with the goal to continuously question the status quo. His research answers the questions that will define how the innovations of today will impact the work of tomorrow.

It was truly an honor to be invited by Hayden Brown and the Upwork team to come speak at their investor day on how AI is shaping the future of work. 

A couple key points:

1. Code is no longer a defensive moat:
Operate under the hypothesis that the cost to generate code is going to $0. 

Capex to write code used to be a valid, defensible moat but with the insane progress AI code gen is making that's quickly going away. We're already seeing companies come out of Y Combinator with 2 founders and fleshed out platforms that in the past would have taken $Xm in funding to build. 

Example: 
We've been able to completely re-write a legacy java app using Cognition's Devin tool in about a day.

2. The best ideas will (finally) win
Research led companies will win. Full stop. 

This doesn't mean go hire a bunch of PhD's. 
What I mean by this is companies that foster internal experimentation and validate ideas with data can now quickly accelerate on those to gain market share....and it's literally never been easier to do this. 

Example: 
We had a hypothesis that injecting business context into GitHub Copilot would improve it. So, in 6 weeks we ran a study using 300 flex talent resources from Upwork and proved it. Then we doubled down and brought that to market. 

We had a whitepaper, empirical evidence, and usage data that gave us an edge. The code was the easy part.

Gigster delivers high-value digital initiatives for organizations through highly curated distributed teams, an outcome-focused software delivery model, and a unique talent intelligence and delivery platform. As a solutions leader, my focus areas presently include the following:

• Developing and positioning AI/ML services offerings in coordination with the go-to-market team, applying emerging technologies to identified needs based on solutions field experience.
• Leading roadmap planning for the evolution of our talent and delivery platform. Key elements include leveraging data and machine learning, optimizing ecosystem integrations, and implementing automation to enhance capabilities and operational efficiency.

Principal Solutions Engineer (Platform & AI Solutions)

• Following Gigster's acquisition by Ionic Partners, transitioned the SE team into a function aligned with cross-functional teams, systematically improving solutions quality, conversion rates, and subject matter expertise.
• As team leader and coach, implemented a new operating model and trained new SEs and a newly hired go-to-market team on emerging technologies and best practices for solution positioning.
• Worked with sales, delivery, product, and engineering teams to ensure project success, while also serving as a high-level technical advisor during project execution to maximize client satisfaction and value.

Lead Solutions Engineer / Director of Solutions Engineering

• Subject matter expert across a broad set of technologies (AI/ML, web and mobile, cloud, blockchain, AR/VR, IOT) within a bespoke software development context.
• Enabler for over 200 opportunities and in the start-up, commercial, and enterprise segments, creating level of effort assessments, solution roadmaps, architectural designs, statements of work, and RFP responses.
• As an inaugural member of the SE team, contributed to Gigster's evolution from a startup focus to a broader enterprise-quality software solutions offering during its phase as a venture-funded (a16z, Redpoint, Y Combinator) entity by structuring and presenting technically optimized proposals for outcome-focused software development.

Enterprise Sales Engineer

• Provided pre-sales and post-sales technical advisory as subject matter expert on cloud-based performance and security for enterprise and mid-market clients, including proof-of-concept evaluations, technical on-boarding, tuning, analytics, issue escalation, and debugging.
• Engaged with a diverse set of clients in the U.S. and Latin America across different verticals (cloud-based services, e-commerce, media, telecom, and finance), taking on solutions engineering account ownership for upwards of 20 enterprise accounts and providing assistance and advisory for a variety of other clients.
• Worked closely with sales, engineering, product, technical support, and technical ops teams to ensure customer success in online threat and DDoS attack protection, content delivery optimization, and DNS.

Solutions Engineer

• Leader of the Solutions Engineering team in North America, a 5-person team.  
• Spearheaded the technical field implementation of marketing campaign optimization solutions towards lifetime value.
• Structured and implemented integrations with ecosystem partners on analytics, tracking, media, and attribution.
• Advised publishers on technical integration of innovative ad formats including native and video.

Head of Solutions Engineering, North America

• Worked with publishers on maximizing integration quality, improving revenue, eCPM, and fill metrics.
• Analyzed advertiser and publisher data to emphasize improvements provided by integration upgrades.
• Provided technical advisory for clients, including major publishers, brand agencies, and app developers, on network integration (IOS/Android SDKs, REST APIs) as well as on holistic mobile advertising best practices.
• Coordinated technical testing and monitoring of ad campaign and app launches, in coordination with business teams, in order to ensure operational success and provide fast proof of value to clients.

Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering

• Second member of the SE team in North America. Became product champion worldwide for analytics and geo-targeting.
• Shared North American customers’ technical requirements with the core Product and Engineering teams.

Manager, Solutions Engineering (Sales Engineer)

CEMEX

• Led internal start-up initiative to reinvent ready-mix offerings for the SMB segment.
• Conciliated viewpoints from an extended team (planning, marketing, operations, and local sales) to create and prove a viable business model for the target segments.
• After providing proof-of-concept data from a test market, grew initiative to a national roll-out, resulting in expansion to 10 key markets within 20 months, achieving 1,200 customers served per month and $30M in annual revenue.

National Manager, CEMEX Pro (Product Manager / Business Line Manager)

•	Awarded full scholarship by CEMEX to Harvard Business School's MBA program as a result of my work with the supply chain optimization and technology teams.
•	As part of the award, interned with CEMEX's Trading Planning HQ in Madrid (Europe, Middle East & Africa Region) where I leveraged analytics-based optimization to evaluate international trading networks, capital investments, positioning, and new market attractiveness.

MBA Scholar / MBA Intern

As Optimization Chief, Supply Chain Planning:
• Planned production and distribution for Mexican cement operations (15 plants/120 DCs) and as support for US operations. Advised actions based on models and analyses for ongoing operations, strategic plans, and contingencies.
• Generated savings of $4.7M USD through optimizing production allocation of a new product.
• Led two experts in creating a Web-based demand planning tool, improving coordination and forecast reliability.
As Project Analyst, Supply Chain Process & Technology:
• Led three experts in creating a Web-based GPS platform, enabling accountability for a fleet of 300 vehicles.
• Evaluated enterprise handheld technologies, resulting in selection of low-cost alternatives ($2M savings).
