I was hired for my expertise in digital content strategy, a major gap that needed filling as the company’s web needs grew. Throughout my time at PartnerComm, I consulted on high-profile projects (including projects for Anthem, JetBlue, Home Depot, and more) through the lens of web content strategy, web best practices, user experience, and accessibility. 

Within 2 months of hire, I moved into a leadership role on the web team. I completed a full audit of PartnerComm’s 50+ active client websites, speaking with 25 team members and C-Suite executives in total. I dug into past and existing processes to make comprehensive recommendations for process improvements and cost savings, and I met weekly with the Lead Web Developer and Lead Web Project Manager to strategize on ways to improve employee satisfaction and project efficiency. 

In addition to these roles, I was also the lead project manager and content strategist on major client projects: 

➣ PartnerComm's first B2B project, a website for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I took this project from kick-off to go-live, working closely with consultants, designers, and programmers to ensure the site was executed strategically. I also wrote the content for the site and met weekly with the client to keep the project on track. 
➣ A 30-page internal employee benefits website for American Express and a 50-page internal employee benefits website for Omnicom Group. Both projects required heavy communication across writers, designers, programmers, and the C-Suite, as well as ongoing UX optimization. 

My time at PartnerComm gave me the opportunity to apply my expertise in web content strategy to a different industry than I’d previously worked within, demonstrating that these skills are valuable across disciplines. I also quickly established myself as a strategic team leader and was able to flex those leadership chops to make a big impact on the organization.

Digital Content Strategist

GMB Fitness

In my last four years at GMB, I grew into a content director role, where I managed all the moving parts of this robust online health and fitness company’s digital content marketing efforts. I owned all of GMB’s content – both internal and external facing - and led a team of creatives and other contributors.

In this role, I spearheaded and directed monthly content marketing campaigns, working closely with a team of copywriters, a video team, graphic designers, and C-Suite executives to produce high-quality content to support each campaign. I also vetted and hired a team freelance writers and social media contributors and acted as their managing editor. This was a big role, and in this time, I was an integral part of gaining brand recognition for GMB across the online health and fitness space, and in developing the brand voice that still draws customers to the company. 

Some of my accomplishments in this role: 

➣ I authored or ghostwrote some of the company’s most popular evergreen articles, receiving millions of views over time. 
➣ I took ownership of twice weekly CRM emails (which included ideating, writing, and sending through our CRM platform). These emails went out to a list of 100k+ subscribers, with average open rates of close to 50% and average click-through rates of around 10% — well above the industry averages for health and fitness companies.
➣ I completed regular content audits to cull sub-optimal content and revamp B-level content to make it more effective, breathing new life into existing content. 

As content director at GMB, I established myself as a senior-level content marketer and content strategist.

Content Director

After a couple of years at GMB, my role evolved into a content management capacity, which involved a much heavier emphasis on writing, editing, and managing coordinated digital content marketing campaigns while also leveraging video and podcast content. In this time, I: 

➣ Wrote and edited hundreds of long-form articles, including how-to tutorials, thought leadership content, case studies, e-books, and other downloadable guides to assist with lead generation and conversions.
➣ Continued social media efforts, helping GMB’s Facebook page surpass 200k likes (from ~1,100 in 2012) and launching on Instagram. We also hired a social media manager during this time, and I was involved in training her on brand and voice guidelines, and I collaborated with her on strategically getting our content in front of people.  
➣ Coordinated with multiple stakeholders, including copywriters, a video team, a graphic designer, a social media manager, and C-suite executives, to create stand-out content and subsequent content marketing pieces.
➣ Managed an organized content calendar and kept close track of metrics and analytics to pivot efforts as needed.

I took a much bigger role in establishing GMB’s brand voice and approaching content from a data-driven perspective.

Content Manager

I was with GMB from the start of their journey to becoming a full-fledged company, and I played a large role in helping them on that journey. In those early couple of years, my primarily duty was to do whatever needed doing to help GMB start growing its customer base. This included: 

➣ Editing videos (so. many. videos.) to expand the company’s presence on YouTube and Facebook (this was before Instagram was much of a thing). 
➣ Producing and editing dozens of podcast episodes. 
➣ Editing and proofreading articles, and uploading those to the CMS (I learned HTML in the process of doing this part of the job). 
➣ Managing social media presence, primarily on Facebook, which included planning, writing, and sharing posts, responding to comments to build community, executing lead-generating contests, and managing a social media calendar.
➣ Reaching out to external partners and popular fitness/health websites for guest posting opportunities to develop link-building authority and engage influencer communities.

In my first role at GMB, I helped establish the company’s brand authority and my work in those early years was pivotal in helping them get to the next level as a company. In my second year there, we achieved 100% YOY revenue growth, and my work was a big part of that success.

Video Editor + Marketing Assistant

Skirball Center for Adult Jewish Learning at Temple Emanu-El

Before I started at Skirball, there really were no marketing or communication efforts to speak of and few people in the nonprofit Jewish education world knew about this organization. I was only there for one year, but in that time, I established and nurtured Skirball's presence across relevant social media channels, initiated letter-writing campaigns, won a couple of significant grants for the organization, and ramped up fundraising. In that time, I was successful at:  

➣ Increasing student enrollment by 25% from the previous year.
➣ Expanding the organization's reach by starting a blog and working closely with an external design agency to rebrand the organization and launch a new website.
➣ Bringing in 73% more funds over the previous year through donor outreach, grant writing, and running fundraising campaigns.

My role at Skirball solidified my love of marketing and the impact it can have on an organization's success.

I like to call myself a Content Magician, a wizardess when it comes to creating thoughtful and impactful messaging, and strategically getting that material in front of the right people. I’ve been immersed in the world of web content (ideating, producing, and marketing) for nearly 15 years, so I know a thing or two about human-centered content strategy. It’s all about thoughtfully finding a way to match what matters to your brand with what matters to the people that interact with your brand. 

My friends poke fun at how competitive I am—not really with others (unless you count the fierce dreidel competition I take part in every Hanukah), but with myself. I always push myself to do better, learn more, and achieve the best results. Embodying a growth mindset is a value that runs equally through my personal and professional lives. I’m a values-driven person, and it’s important to me that what motivates me align with how an organization wants to grow. My core values are:

By following these values, I’ve established myself as a team leader wherever I’ve been, empowering and supporting others on my team to do their best work. I help my team see what’s possible, then I work with the right people to move the needle in the right direction. 

When it comes to producing and marketing content, my bread-and-butter is long-form, thought-leadership content, but I’ve really done it all. I wrote short-form CRM emails for an audience of 100k subscribers for several years, with some of the highest open rates and click through rates in the industry. I’ve been involved with social media marketing in different ways for over 10 years. I’ve written simple landing pages, course materials for a lead-nurturing freebie, blog hubs, and everything in between. 

What drives it all is strategy. 

In my non-professional life, I have more hobbies than I can count. I’m a martial artist, I love hiking and traveling, I draw, I write (yes, for fun, too!), I love animals, and I try very hard to keep my many house plants alive.

Rachel Honeyman 🍯✍🏼

13 years ago today, my big brother Shaun — 20 years my senior — was taken from this world, far too early and under far too tragic of circumstances. 

He was just a few weeks shy of his 45th birthday, a dad to two young kids, and by far, the coolest person I ever have or ever will have the pleasure of knowing. 

And, he lived with demons most couldn't see. 

He had bipolar disorder and battled addiction for most of his life, in a constant attempt to self-medicate through a horrific disease he could never quite get a handle on. 

Anyone who met him wouldn't know any of this was bubbling under the surface. He was the life of the party, ever gregarious and funny and goofy and full of love. He was good at pretty much everything he ever put his mind to, and he had many successes in his life. 

Ultimately, though, he lost his battle, despite fighting harder than imaginable. 

I share this, in part, to honor my brother's memory, but also as a reminder: You never know what battles someone is fighting. Sometimes, it's the brightest lights in the room that feel darkest inside. 

So, be kind. Be gracious. Most of all, to yourself 💓

I recently got into a disagreement with someone who couldn’t understand how I, as a business owner, could say I don’t care how many followers I have.

But I don’t. (And not in a “pretend I’m above it” way 😜)

Because what matters isn’t how many people follow you. It’s how many people are listening.

Social media warps our perception.
 
We scroll past numbers like they’re nothing.

“Only 100 views.”
“Only 8 comments.”
“Only a few hundred followers.”

But imagine standing in a room in front of 100 people and sharing your message.
 
You would feel the weight of that. You would feel the connection and presence of real humans who chose to hear you.

100 humans paying attention to you is remarkable.

Because 100 engaged, connected humans will:
• Remember you
• Refer you
• Learn from you
• Buy from you
• Grow with you

Meanwhile, 10,000 passive followers will do… nothing.

We’ve been taught to chase audience size like it’s our deepest value, but follower count is just a number.
 
Connection is the real metric of influence.

So if your audience is small right now?

Speak to them more intentionally. Show up like they matter — because they do.

The louder social media gets, the more people crave feeling seen.

You don’t need a bigger audience. You need a more connected one. And you’re already building it every time you show up with honesty and heart.
