Here's the OVP I wrote:

What makes this work:

✅ Mirrors their exact requirements ✅ Proves impact with numbers ($10M, multi-million) ✅ Shows HOW you deliver (Lean Six Sigma, system building) ✅ Makes it impossible to ignore your relevance

This is how you open strong.
Not with a title. Not with fluff.

With proof that you're exactly what they're looking for.

How do you stand out?

Not by hoping your resume gets lucky in the pile.

Here's what I see job seekers do:

They apply to everything. Same resume. Same approach. Then wonder why they're getting ghosted.

Here's what the ones who GET interviews do differently:
They're relevant. Intentional. Strategic.

1. They tailor every single resume
Not a full rewrite. Small, strategic tweaks. Mirror the language in the job description. Make it obvious you're the fit they're looking for.

2. They lead with a targeted summary
First 3 lines hook the reader. Align your top strengths with what they need. Not what you've done, but what you can do for them.

3. They use keywords naturally
Not stuffing. Weaving. The exact terms hiring managers search for. Gets you ATS-optimized and past the human scan.

4. They show proof, not fluff
Not 10 generic achievements. 3-5 that directly match what the role requires.

5. Their LinkedIn tells a different story than their resume
Resume = targeted for the role. LinkedIn = who you are, your voice, your unique perspective. Don't copy-paste. Differentiate.

Bonus: They write cover letters that actually connect the dots

Not "I'm interested in this role." But "Here's why my experience solving X makes me perfect for your Y challenge."

The difference between 200 applications with no response and 10 applications with 3 interviews?

Quick resume fixes that save you from rejections:

✔️ Replace your generic bio with a branding statement 

Not ‘experienced professional with proven track record’ But your unique value for the specific role you're targeting.

✔️ Mirror the job description keywords 

If they say P&L management, don't write ‘budget oversight’ Speak their language.

✔️ Lead with strong action verbs 

Not ‘Responsible for’ or ‘Worked on’ But ‘Drove,’ ‘Optimized,’ ‘Delivered,’ ‘Built’.

✔️ Keep formatting consistent 

Same font. Same bullet style. Same spacing. Inconsistency screams careless.

✔️ Use white space strategically 

Too much = looks empty Too little = overwhelming to read Balance is key.

✔️ Name your file correctly 

LastName_FirstName_Resume.pdf Not ‘Resume_Final_v3.docx’

✔️ Always submit as PDF 

Word docs break formatting, PDFs preserve your layout exactly as intended

🎯One overlooked fix I'd add:

Quantify everything you can. ‘Improved efficiency’ means nothing. ‘Cut processing time from 5 days to 2’ gets interviews.

I reached out to a VP I worked with last year.
