As General Counsel of Malbek and a long-time educator, author, and advocate, I sit at the intersection of law, technology, and learning. My work centers on translation. I take complex, fast-moving technologies and turn them into clear concepts, practical strategies, and informed decisions that legal professionals can actually use. Whether guiding teams through digital transformation or shaping how legal products are built and adopted, my focus is always on clarity over hype.

Teaching is core to how I operate. I regularly speak to diverse audiences, from military organizations to law firms and in-house legal departments, as well as large professional groups, on AI’s impact on legal work and the responsible, effective use of technology. Across these settings, my goal is the same: to help people understand not just what tools do, but how they change legal work, roles, and judgment.

That same educational mission runs through my writing and publishing. I am the author of The Legal Tech Ecosystem, a foundational guide to understanding the industry and its players, a co-author of CLM for Dummies, and the editor of the Handbook of Legal Tech. I also write regularly, serve as a columnist for Today’s General Counsel, and contribute through podcasts, webinars, and industry forums. Each platform is another way to make legal tech more accessible, grounded, and actionable.

Across every role, my aim is to equip people with the knowledge and confidence to engage with innovation thoughtfully and critically. I’m a leading Chambers & Partners rated mergers and acquisitions (M&A) lawyer. My approach to M&A is to partner with my clients to get their most significant and complex deals done quickly and cost efficiently. 

To do that, I provide creative and actionable legal advice—while having fun along the way too! 

I’ve been doing M&A and advising companies, management teams, and directors for over 25 years and I love my work, my awesome teammates, and my valued clients—after all, you’re the reason I get to do what I do every day! 

My work involves advising global public and private companies, boards of directors, special committees, and senior management in connection with their most significant and challenging matters, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, activist planning and defense, and corporate governance matters.

My clients include a broad range of nationally and internationally recognized public and private companies, as well as financial investors and investment banking firms. 

Although I do a lot of tech-focused deals, my clients are located around the world and are active in a range of industries, including mobile communications, renewable energy, sports and broadcasting, chemicals, emerging technology, financial services, software, manufacturing and metals, education, robotics, information technology, media, and life sciences.

I talk and write about all kinds of corporate law topics, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, venture capital, and corporate governance. I was also a long-time contributing author to the Lexis-Nexis Securities Practice Guide.

I’m a founding faculty member of my firm’s mini-MBA program, an innovative professional development training program designed to orient law firm associates and in-house legal teams to key business and corporate finance concepts that are critical to business success.
