2026 newsletter prediction 1️⃣: Ad networks (start to) fail.

This is a spicy one, but hear me out...

I think we're going to see brands spend more on newsletters in 2026 — but the way they do it will be very different.

We'll see more brands pick top, (mainly creator led) newsletters with a strong audience relationship and spend directly with them on partnerships. Like they already do with top content creators in other formats (eg youtube).

For everyone else, I think the CPM/CPC deals that ad networks rely on are about to dry up. 

The signal to noise ratio is terrible and the performance just isn't there for brands.

Instead, we'll see brands replace this with "true" performance deals: Affiliate and CPA offers. Just like how they work with small content creators on all other platforms.

Good newsletters that can drive results will earn more. The ~80% of low quality newsletters that are scraping a living off bot clicks from ad networks will die off.

Difficult times ahead for low quality newsletters, fraudsters and people who run ad networks. 

But maybe not such a bad thing for the newsletter space in the long term.
