Hi! I'm Matt Fried. I've been a customer service and sales leader for 25+ years.

With Ace Natural since 2015, I lead our organic food service ingredient sales division. I'm responsible for our top food service accounts, new client acquisition, & launching new brands into the market. Prior to my current business development role here, I was the Customer Service Manager.

Prior to Ace Natural I led Customer Service and Operations for Eli Fried Inc., a food service distribution company specializing in dried fruits, nuts, & gluten-free bakery supply.

My experience selling healthy food and working with clients runs deeper than my professional life; these values are the backbone of my personal life.

I've been writing daily about healthy living since 2013, with over 4000 posts to date. I coach people who are struggling with their nutrition & fitness inside an digital community and 1:1.

I am an avid chess & soccer player, father of 2 amazing teenagers, and husband to a woman who continues to make me better every day.

While I carry a pen, paper, and a physical book with me everywhere I go, I am also a power user of many different software & technical tools, using systems, AI, & automation daily.

✅ Wrote documentation from zero for the art department: on stylistics, work standards, file organization, and on certain typical tasks. To increase the autonomy of employees.

✅ Conducted a statistical study of art performance and increased the CTOR conversion in email newsletters by 6% compared to the previous one. Monitored the implementation by a team the 9 criteria that positively affect the conversion.

Achievements:

✅ Did analisis and improved the style of one of the projects. Got approved by CEO. Created style guide for a team.

✅ Created animated e-mail illustrations instead of static images. Was the first who used 3d character animation for email illustrations. with the same deadlines as for static images.

✅ Conducted a study based on the statistics of our email marketing. Manually assessed 30 features of each of the 200+ illustrations in our emails. Found 9 key factors correlated with conversion.

Key Responsibilities:

- Creation of 2D graphics in Photoshop in 5 different styles.
- Creation of multi-figure dynamic promotional illustrations for the main web pages of projects.
- Creation of entertaining illustrations for E-mail marketing.
- Creation of 3D graphics in Blender and MagicaVoxel.

2D/3D Artist

Here I led the development of art for a creative marketing campaign - a mobile game "The Chick Game" to promote buying APF's eggs in Latvia's grocery stores. 

I was responsible for 2d art branding, concepts, logo design, website assets design, character design, NFT-like skin system for 2d characters,  and Game UI graphics. 

Consulted, offered optimal solutions to art problems, hired suitable art performers, and reduced risks.

Freelance Art Director

✅  In less than a month, I assembled an art team of 12 permanent freelancers, which allowed the client not to delay the development of the game and receive graphics in large volumes with the quality supervised by me.

✅ My team created 114 mid-core characters and spell illustrations. For fantasy CCG. For terms 2-3 times faster than allocated in similar projects. And, accordingly, it is more effective for the project budget.

✅ Developed a pipeline based on the narrow specialization of each of the involved artists. This is how we managed to get synergy and high final quality without hiring more experienced and expensive middle+ level artists. Which also saved the client's budget.

✅ The company was satisfied and has invited to work with an important external client. To develop art for a mobile casual game as part of a marketing campaign for the largest egg producer in the Baltic States. There I also led the development of art, consulted, offered optimal solutions to art problems, selected performers and reduced risks.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Determining the needs and expectations of the client during Google Meet calls. The direction and consultation of every involved person, taking this information into account.
- Consulting and suggesting options for solving art problems.
- Finding, selecting and hiring freelancers who are suitable for tasks and budget.
- Formed and tracked tasks according to the Agile principle (Kanban boards in Trello) and in GoogleSheets.
- Monitoring the execution of tasks on time and with consistent production quality of the art.
- Ensuring consistent style across artists by writing guides in GoogleDocs and by recording video demos (OBS).
- Resolving and preventing dissatisfaction and conflicts through nonviolent communication and creating a trusting atmosphere in the team.
-To foresee technical limitations and took into account the mechanics of the game when giving feedback.
-Preparing and optimizing files for use by developers in Unity.

Once when I was a student, I was in a crowded bus on my way to art school and looking at the window. 

I noticed the effect when objects that are far from me move away more slowly.

It created a perception of depth.

I was thinking of different ways to show depth in a painting besides the most common ones.

I was wondering ... would it add more depth if I were able to make closer areas appear more moving?

Today, 7 years after...

I experimented - what it would look like - if we leave only movement information on the image.

And remove all other information:
• color
• value
• saturation
• ...

For that, I created a grid of 256x256 (=65536) rotating lines.

And made their rotation speed depend on the depth of the image.

In the attached video, you can see what it looks like. When the lines move, the image clearly appears. But when I stop them, it's a completely random set of 65536 lines on a canvas.

How to Earn on Aesthetics and Ethics?

As an Artist, I am often expected to prove why investing in Aesthetics would pay off. 

There are 3 modes of cognition and decision making:
• Logic
• Ethic
• Aesthetic

But in modern culture, where we massively praise everything rational, we often look at the world through Logic. 

Through KPI, ROI, Profit.

And we often consider Ethical and Aesthetical only if it's Logical.

Only if it's beneficial in terms of profit and efficiency.

Aesthetics and Ethics are always a luxury.

If we aim for the highest profitability and to be most effective - we would have to optimize everything. 

The most optimized shape of building is square or hexes. With matherials that are having minimal acceptable quality for it's function.

That's why I included images of how Architecture would look with each way of thinking.

With this post I want to raise awareness.

That asking about profitability of Aesthetics is a bit contradictive question.

Aesthetics are done not out efficiency but out of generosity and abundance. Out of ability to be aesthetic. Out of good taste.

Even if it's at the expense of Logical - Aesthetical world Feels better.

People, please don't expect artists to fit the logical only worldview. If you like aesthetics - don't expect it to have efficiency. For that you can find engineers.

Please remember - when you decide based on logic - you create the world that satisfies the mind, but things taste less.

Choose the world you want to live in.

Or you do it because you like how it feels to be attractive?

How do you rationally justify investing money in being attractive?
