Being a dad is hands-down the hardest job I’ve ever had. 

There’s no manual,
there’s plenty of pressure,
and let’s be honest,
it’s not a job with a big paycheck.

Growth Habit

I never intended to coach coaches. I got my first real coaching experience as a leadership coach in my People & Culture roles. If you would've asked me when I started doing coaching on the side, I would've told you I was a "creativity coach", combining my background in music with my absolute love of working with creative folks. My first clients outside of my day job were writers, recording artists, and photographers.

When people started asking me to help them create empowering habits after seeing how I had created mine, I leaned into it and labelled myself a "habits strategist". 

The launch of my coaching business went so well that I had to quit my Director-level role a month earlier than planned to keep up with the demand.

I said no to the first two coaches that asked me if I coached coaches because I thought "who the hell was I to be coaching coaches?". But when the third coach showed up in a ten day window asking how I generated so much demand and got clients overseas, I figured the universe was trying to tell me something again. 

The titles didn't matter as long as I was helping others unlock potential within themselves and grow. My entire life has been driven by trying to understand what makes businesses thrive regardless of the market conditions and what truly makes people more confident, creative, impactful, and fulfilled.

Every kid who came to our house for Halloween was given the same choice: "Do you want candy or a potato?"

The different reactions were hilarious:

• Some were confused ("is it a real potato?")
• Younger kids were discouraged by their parents from choosing the starchy vegetable ("no honey, you don't want a potato")
• And several kids cheered ("I got a potato!", "yeah, potato!", or "potato, let's gooooo!!!")
  
We ran out of potatoes first.

It's doesn't makes sense logically.

And if you asked a 100 people what they think the reaction would be to offering potatoes to trick or treaters, few would've said that the potatoes would be the highlight of the night. Not many would've guessed that the dirt covered vegetables would create way more excitement than that the candy.

So what's the business lesson I'm going to shoehorn in here? 

You can sit around all day thinking about what you believe your clients want. You can fill out worksheets. And you can even soundboard ideas with someone like me. 

And you might come up with some good stuff.

But NOTHING beats putting offers in front of your clients to see how they respond. There's no better feedback than a real experiment. Because even what your clients tell you they THINK they want can be different from how they actually react live in the moment.

That was in-between an open floor discussion about using AI in your content, five separate standing ovations, and hundreds of deep conversations that could never have been scripted.

None of this was scheduled.

2025 is going to be my best year ever. I'll make more than 4x what my six-figure salary was as a Director of People & Culture this year.

But... 

My website needs an overhaul, my about section on LinkedIn is out of date, and I've only posted 3-4 times a week in 2025.

So what's made the difference? 

These 3 things played a role....

1. Invaluable insights from mentors (like learning to generate the right kind of long-form content that creates clients)
2. Some big internal shifts in belief (yes, I CAN make more money while not sacrificing my health, relationships, or client results)
3. Continuing to double-down on what's working instead of chasing new things (my ADHD loves shiny distractions 😅)

But there's one exercise I did last November which I credit the most.

I mapped out the year in a way that getting more clients, making more impact, and having more freedom was inevitable.

I spontaneously said this on a call with clients a couple weeks ago and it really hit. So I'm thinking you might find it helpful.

If you don't put in the time, effort, and energy into refining your message so you can explain what you do in a clear + memorable way, you're putting the burden of trying to explain what you do on others.

And then you wonder why you're not getting more inbound inquiries, referrals, and clients.

What do I do?

When coaches are good at what they do and care deeply about the people they serve start a business, it’s hard because they're often not also great at getting their message out + enrolling clients. They’re separate skills. And they definitely don't want to do anything pushy or salesy to get clients. So I help them craft a magnetic message, create Hell Yes offers, and build a business that turns strangers into clients without doing anything icky. That way, they feel proud when telling their friends + family not just about the impact that they're having, but also about the revenue that they're making.

Do you realize how f**ked things just got?

Your business relies on....

Clients feeling safe to share their biggest fears.
Opening up about mistakes they've made.
And believing what you say.

This is all dependant on TRUST.

If you can't create trust with potential clients, you might as well log out of here + go delete your website. Once that's done, you should email your previous boss to see if they'll take you back.

That might sound drastic. 

But there's no healthy relationships without trust. And the best, most sustainable, and imo most enjoyable businesses are built on relationships. Not on making people feel like a transaction.

And our ability to trust others is being destroyed.

Our feeds have been flooded with so much AI generated crap for the last year that humans began developing an eye for robot written B.S.

Starting a sentence with an emoji? 
Saying "here's the thing"?
Got em dashes? 

Busted.

So now there's people sharing ChatGPT prompts you can use to ensure your AI written words don't sound synthetic (even though they are).

And it just got worse.

Our feeds are about to be flooded with hyper-realistic video of things that never happened. People that never met. And conversations that are completely made up.

We're months away from your potential clients not being able to know if they can trust their own eyes. And as a matter of survival, they'll second guess + scrutinize everything they see online.

We're not in a trust recessing.

We're spiralling into a TRUST DEPRESSION.

What can you do?

Stop hiding your flaws + pretending you don't fart.

INSTEAD....

1. Swap polished + edited videos for raw one take recordings.
2. Create live experiences (in-person + online).
3. Share stories from your life/business.
