After 14 years, Bengaluru wasn’t just a personal visit for me, it became a 𝑁𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑛 by design.

I extended my stay by 24 hours and consciously met members of Confident Storytelling Hub — Devi, Manasa Krishna, Rosorika Angom I PMP l CSM l ICF Certified Coach l Toastmaster, and Aditi.

I also reconnected with members from my coach Siddharth Rajsekar’s Internet Lifestyle Hub community.

Those in-person conversations reminded me of three timeless truths:
1. 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐈𝐧-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭.
 Nothing replaces eye contact, shared laughter, and unfiltered conversations.

2. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞.
 Meetups don’t just exchange business cards — they unlock lived experiences.

3. 𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞.
 A strong code of honour creates relationships that outlast any transaction.

This trip reaffirmed something I deeply believe, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒔.

Last Thursday at our BNI Alpha meeting, our President and Leadership Team dropped an unexpected twist:
👉 “𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝟑𝟎 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈!”

No prep.
No warning.
No cheat sheet (I mean, we did use ChatGPT for some help 😅)

 Just go for it. 😄

And that’s how I found myself switching from my usual English/Hinglish flow
to shuddh Hindi — even using the word “Peshawar” with full confidence!

Was it challenging?
Absolutely.

Was it fun?
A LOT more than I expected.

And it reminded me of a beautiful truth:
✨ Communication is not about the language you speak.
✨ It’s about the ideas you transfer.
✨ It’s about the connection you create.

When your intention is clear and your message is strong, the language becomes a vehicle, not a barrier.

🌟 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 “𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮” 𝐒𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

Last week, during a coaching session, I shared a simple insight with a senior professional and it landed like a revelation for her.

She paused, looked at me and said,
“Haritosh, I never thought of it this way.”

Here’s what I told her:

👉 In speaking and storytelling, overusing “thank you” doesn’t make you polite, it makes you look unsure.

Many professionals end their sentences with:
“Thank you, thank you so much,  thank you for listening, thank you for your time and so on”

Not once.
Not twice.
But five to six times in a 2–3 minute talk.

🔎 What the audience hears:
“I’m not confident.”
“Please validate me.”
“I hope I’m doing okay.”

But you’re not supposed to seek permission.You’re supposed to command attention.

Here’s the truth👇
✨ A powerful communicator thanks the audience once at the end, and spends the rest of the time delivering value.

Because credibility doesn’t come from gratitude alone.
It comes from clarity, conviction, and control of the room.

So the next time you speak —
Cut the extra “thank yous.”
Say it once.
Say it with intention.
And let your message do the talking.

Last Saturday, we celebrated our 6th Graduation Ceremony of 2025 for the Video Confidence Challenge in @confident and what an incredible evening it was! 🎉🎥

November was a special month inside the Confident Storytelling Hub.

We went back to the roots and picked the best tasks from all previous challenges, creating a powerful 15-video “November Mixer Challenge.”

The reflections, creativity, and breakthroughs were truly next level.

🔥 This month also saw our highest-ever induction - the energy inside the community is buzzing like never before!

During the ceremony, we honoured our amazing members with awards such as:

November Mixer Challenge Awards Ceremony

𝐌𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬.

Inconvenient would be an understatement.

As founders and entrepreneurs, we often carry too much in our hands and too many tabs in our heads.

When I looked closer, I realized something interesting. 
I hadn’t rebooted my laptop for weeks.

On returning home, the diagnosis was clear.
Battery issue. Replacement needed.

Covered under warranty, but not immediately available.

So I had a choice.
Run the laptop plugged in all the time or pause.

This situation forced a new habit.
Every night, I had to close all my work and shut the laptop down completely.

And that’s when the real realization hit me.

If machines need a shutdown to function better,
how often do we give ourselves one?

We keep running on low battery.
Mentally open tabs.
Emotionally plugged in.
Physically exhausted.

This simple constraint reminded me how powerful intentional shutdowns can be.

Not quitting.
Not slowing ambition.
Just resetting.

Now the battery stock is back.
And I’m wondering

Do I rush to get it fixed,
or continue this sacred practice for a little longer 😅

When was the last time you truly shut down and rebooted yourself?

𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐠 𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲.𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲. 

And it taught me something powerful about communication.

I was watching *Maharani* on Sony LIV when a scene in Season 1 Episode 3 hit me harder than expected.

Mukhiya, played brilliantly by the late Alok Chatterjee, was addressing a crowd.
Instead of giving facts, orders or instructions, he began with a story.

The classic *𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫* story.

You know it.
Put a frog in hot water, it jumps.
Put it in cold water and heat it slowly, it keeps adjusting until it’s too late.

But the way he narrated it, the way he used it to shift the mindset of the entire crowd in minutes... that is the true power of storytelling.

It reminded me once again that when you lead with a story, three things instantly become easier
✔ Your audience understands your message
✔ They feel emotionally connected
✔ They’re far more likely to take action

Whether it’s a political campaign, a complex data presentation or selling your services, stories cut through noise like nothing else.

During a discussion last week, something subtle yet powerful happened.

One of the participants, demonstrated a communication skill that most professionals overlook:
He used a 𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐑𝐎 𝐏𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐄 to enter the conversation.

Not by interrupting.
Not by waiting endlessly.
But by noticing a tiny gap — a one-second opening — and inserting his point with clarity.

And that moment reminded me of an important lesson for every professional:

💡 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞
In meetings, presentations, and group discussions, you will often have something valuable to contribute. 
But the speaker may continue talking or the discussion may move on or you may feel you’re “waiting for your turn.”

Instead of interrupting or staying silent, try this:
✔️ Listen attentively
✔️ Spot the tiny pause in the speaker’s flow
✔️ Insert your point smoothly and respectfully

This single technique helps you:
Speak without interrupting
Sound confident
Get acknowledged
Make your point heard
Build presence in any room

As a communication and storytelling coach, I see this mistake constantly:
People wait too long or they cut someone off.

But great communicators do neither.

A few days back, during one of our Live Huddles in the Confident Storytelling Hub, I witnessed a presenter do something brilliantly simple yet incredibly powerful.

He followed what I call the #1 rule of effective PowerPoint presentations:

3 things missing on Ph.D. resumes that actually get interviews and how to fix them with AI (and most importantly HI).

I’ve reviewed resumes from over 200+ Ph.D.s across 7+ countries, & Ph.D's working with me have landed interviews at Astrazeneca, Clarivate, Nokia, Seimens, Oracle, & Many more, so I can tell you this:

95% are missing the same 3 things and without them, the “no response” loop continues.

Let’s break it down:

1️⃣ Metrics.
Most Ph.D.s can calculate error margins to the 4th decimal but forget to add a single number on their resume.

Numbers = proof. Proof = credibility. 
(Want examples of what metrics to include? Check the comments, I’ve dropped a link there.)

2️⃣ Section headings.
“Academic Experience”? “Research Experience”? Meh.
Those are fine, but they don’t guide the reader. 

Customize headings to the role you’re targeting - Industry Projects, Strategic Collaborations, Innovation Leadership… these reframe how your work is seen. It has landed by clients multiple interviews.

3️⃣ Bullets that show impact.

Most bullets just list responsibilities. But hiring managers don’t want to read your job description they want to know what changed because you were there.

So how do you fix this without rewriting your resume 20 times? Simple !!

Here’s a prompt I wish more Ph.D.’s used with AI tools like ChatGPT:

“Hi, As a Ph.D. I will be applying for this job role [insert the job description], and here is my resume. Based on the job description, consider yourself the hiring manager for this role with 10 years of experience. Give me 3 resume bullets that don’t overlap, use metrics, show impact, and use varied action verbs in the format: Did X, using Y, accomplishing Z, that would make you call this candidate immediately.”

❌No, this won’t magically fix your resume. 
But it will give you a mirror a peek into what hiring managers actually look for.

Because resume is a persuasive tool built on psychology and empathy written from hiring managers/recruiters point of view, not yours.

And AI alone won’t solve that. You will.

That's why I always say: don’t forget to add HI to your AI. (HI = Human Intelligence 😊)

One of my clients in Europe wants to land a role in a FANG company.
 
The skills are there. The record is there.
But the belief that they belong in those companies was low.

This is where I begin with the RRAPID system.
 With the first R: Rewire.
 Because no amount of strategy works when the belief system keeps saying,
 “Not me. Not at that level.”
So we started small. Found out One decision maker.
 Wrote one thoughtful cold email.
 Despite no job opening, no referral, but just the right intent of adding value.

They heard back in a day. 
This was the first cold email they ever wrote for their job search.

Most Ph.D.s think people in FANG roles sit behind walls that only a perfect resume can cross. But cold email done right reaches rooms your resume can’t.

That one reply, I know has changed how my client sees their own path.
 They now know these roles are not “for others”.
 They are within reach. This is the work inside Smart Dumb club.
 
To be smart enough to act.
And dumb enough to question the old story you keep telling yourself

P.S. Cold emails only work when they are written with intent.
 The generic ones never get a reply.

P.P.S. My cold email methods come from years of studying how people think and decide. I used the same skills to land interviews and offers that were never meant for me on paper. I now teach the same inside RRAPID.

Hey this is Rima, a scientist turned Ph.D career coach, helping Ph.D from 7+ countries land roles in pharma, tech & consultancy, & my starting point of career trasition was not resume or linkedin, but belief that I can do it :). it was hard but worth it.

The most harmful belief Ph.D.’s inherit from academia that keeps them stuck and here’s what replaces it👇

Many Ph.D.’s that I work with carry this belief that for a career transition they have to know everything in great depth and detail.

Listen, academia teaches you to explore depth of knowledge, and
honestly that is super valuable. 
However everything has an upside & downside too.

So when you are deep into something, for a good 4-5 years –
you also become prone to the downside of doing it for that long.

And that is you believe in researching a lot, before acting on it.
Science has a term for it named as enantiodromia, where the exact opposite happens.

Like in your career transition - You believe that collecting more information & doing more research will help you figure out things – but you are in a constant loop of collecting free resources, free advises but that is never executed or yielding results.

I did hear this from one of my client who told me “ I was drowning in information and had no clue how to act on it “

And so this is where you need to understand, researching is a precious skill,
but research without implementation is a wasted one.

You need to move from less research → to → more execution.

This is exactly what one of my clients did to land her industry job in telecom sector.

However it wasn’t straight forward at the outset. 

She had to understand what were her foundational skills (FS) & what were her Minimum Viable skills (MVS).
She worked with petabytes of data, & radio transmission which were the foundational skills required for the role of data scientist in telecom sector.

And we then worked on the MVS to build on top of the FS - which are skills that are an absolute requirement for the job she was pivoting into – in her case it was Power BI & SQL.

Now she didn’t need to know every use case of Power BI & SQL, but built something relevant for the role – validating further you don’t need to know everything in  great depth & details as you did in your Ph.D.

And that is your super power as a Ph.D. to quickly  learn things because you have the foundations for many skills.

So this Monday ask yourself, What are the Foundational skills required for the job I want to pivot into ?

Do I have it ?  If yes, what are the MVS required for the same & how can I build it at the earliest ?

And I repeat – you don’t need to know everything in great depth & details for you career transition.

You just have to act & move fast with what you know.
