Loved seeing Varun's Amsterdam yacht broker story.

Using Clay to check if someone lives near a marina? Brilliant signal detection. This is exactly why I'm bullish on Clay's European expansion... There is just so much organic variation in Europe - I'm sure we'll see a surge of super creative builds in the next 6 months. 


Here's what I'm seeing across European implementations:
The German approach: Engineering precision. 30-step workflows that account for every edge case. Documentation that could be a PhD thesis. 

The UK method: Pragmatic but thorough. "It works" matters more than "it's perfect." But with proper queuing because we're still British. 

The French style: Elegant data architecture. If the workflow isn't beautiful, rebuild it. Somehow it performs better when it's aesthetic.

The Scandi way: Minimal but powerful. 5 tables doing the work of 50. Clean, sustainable, scalable.

Each market is bringing its own excellence to Clay.

And here's the opportunity: When American velocity meets European precision? When Clay's flexibility meets our compliance requirements? When global ambition meets local excellence?

That's when magic happens.
That yacht broker isn't just scoring leads. He's showing us the future:

- Hyper-specific signals
- Real-time qualification
- Precision over volume

Who's building something interesting in Europe?

May the revenue goddess have mercy on your budget.

Because the bloated dinosaur tech stack you're clinging to sure won't.

Had a call the other day with a Director of Business Development at a public company, who gets it. He sees what Clay could do for their motion. He's watched competitors scale past them using modern GTM infrastructure.

But his exec team just dropped $150K on some shiny platform, that last mattered back in 2019.

So now he's stuck playing internal politics, explaining why they need "another tool" when they "already bought the expensive thing."

Here's what drives me absolutely bananas about this:
Your C-suite thinks buying one massive, overpriced platform means they're "done with GTM tech."

Cute.

That's like buying a Ferrari and thinking you don't need petrol because the car was expensive enough.

The expensive platform tells you someone visited your pricing page. Fantastic. Gold star. What now?

Oh right - someone manually looks them up on LinkedIn, copies info into a spreadsheet, fiddles with enrichment from your legacy provider, then sends a template email that 47 other vendors already sent.

Brilliant strategy. I'm sure that'll scale beautifully. 🙃
Meanwhile, companies using Clay properly have automated workflows that:

✅ Enrich that account with actual buying signals (not just "they clicked something")
✅ Identify the real decision-makers (not just whoever filled out the form)
✅ Score them against your ICP (because not every visitor is worth your time)
✅ Route them with context to the right rep
✅ Personalize outreach based on their specific situation

All before your competitor finishes their morning coffee.
But sure, tell yourself you're "modern" because you bought the tool with the biggest sales team.

To everyone stuck fighting this battle internally: I see you. The revenue goddess salutes you. 🫡

To the execs making these calls: your logo collection isn't a strategy. Your conversion rates are what matters. Act accordingly.

I’m not committed to downgrading. I’m committed to results.

One sentence from yesterday’s customer call that actually made me smile.

After a bunch of Clay implementations, I’ve developed a sixth sense for who’s going to be a nightmare and who’s going to be a dream to work with.

Here’s the difference:

🚩 Red flag customer: “Can you just build this quickly? We need it by Friday.”
✅ Green flag customer: “If we cut budget on something that’s working, we’re basically cutting off our nose to spite our face.”

The customers I want to work with:

1. They think programmatically
Red: “Can you scrape LinkedIn?”
Green: “Can we export this workflow as code so I can edit it without the clicky-clicky stuff?”

(Yes, someone actually said “clicky-clicky stuff”. Loved it.)

2. They already have API keys
Red: “What’s an API?”
Green: “We use Anthropic across the team. Here are our keys.”

You don’t need to be a Clay wizard. But if you understand what an API key does for your budget, we’re speaking the same language.

3. They respect foundation work
Red: “Why do we need three weeks for discovery?”
Green: “If the ICP’s wrong, none of this works.”

Boring infrastructure enables exciting revenue outcomes.

4. They ask builder questions
Red: “Can you just use the template?”
Green: “Can we save this flow as a sub-process and reuse it?”

That’s scale-thinking. That’s my language.

5. They understand investment vs cost
Red: “What’s the cheapest way?”
Green: “I’d rather invest now than rebuild in six months.”

Yesterday’s customer (you know who you are 😏) had all the green flags:
• Asked about JSON
• Already uses Anthropic + OpenAI
• Questioned provider accuracy
• Thought in systems, not tactics

Not “build this for me.”
Just: We have capability. Let’s use it strategically.

That’s how you get 95%+ data accuracy and 40%+ CAC drops.

What I’ve learned:
The best customers don’t have the biggest budgets.
They have the right mindset:
• Curious > demanding
• Strategic > tactical
• Systems-thinking > quick fixes

Pattern recognition beats technical skill every time.

My advice if you’re hiring a Clay operator:
Look for someone who pushes back, asks about ICP first, and talks about maintenance, not just implementation.

My advice if you’re a Clay operator:
Qualify on mindset, not budget.

Ask: “What happens if we don’t fix this?”
If they can’t articulate the cost of inaction, they’re not ready.

And to the customers who show up with Anthropic keys and want to edit code, not do clicky-clicky stuff, you’re my people. 🫶

P.S. If you just thought “that’s literally us”- Q1 is full, Q2 is negotiable.
