Yesterday's AI GTM Workshop at Clay wasn't what I expected

It was BETTER - here are some insights I gathered from teaching:

1. Improvisation - the wifi went down for 45 min before we started. Normally, people might panic in this situation BUT this created an opportunity for us to openly talk about what each person THOUGHT they wanted to build during the workshop. HOWEVER, their ideas transformed as we asked more questions. This is a beautiful result of being curious, empathetic, and inquisitive. 

2. Every artist has a medium. We deeply believe this at Clay. So, we brought in a sketch artist (Saki- she's amazing!) to recreate each student's favorite photos and bring THEM into her artistic process. The result? People were beaming with joy when they say the finished art. Every artist has a medium. Saki has sketching. Now they (the students) have Clay.

3. Beginners prefer to be GIVEN 1-2 workflows to build. This is contrary to Intermediates who already know what they want to build but just need a little gut check before starting. Next time, we'll let beginners choose from a set of pre-determined usecases (ex: inbound, outbound, crm, etc...)

4. Don't let students "chase the rabbit". Clay is powerful, but with great power comes great responsibility. Just because you CAN do (almost) anything doesn't mean you should - especially given time constraints. During open build, it makes sense to checkin with students every 10 min to ensure they're not going down rabbit holes and coming back empty-handed.

This is only the beginning.

🧠Habits I'll continue
1. Going for a walk first thing in the morning (feel happier)
2. Making a slow coffee in the morning 60-90 min after waking up (no crash)
3. no coffee after 1pm (sleep is terrible)
3. Reading before bed instead of Netflix (i feel more rested)
4. Weekly therapy sessions
5. Working out (Weightlifting 4x, Pilates 1-2x, Tennis 1-2x, Salsa 2x)
6. Use the Big Ass Calendar (it forced me to proactively plan a year of adventure)
7. Contrast Therapy (dry sauna with friends feels amazing for my body and soul)
8. Matcha Mornings with core group to just hang and chat once per week
9. Weekend Hikes (walking in nature feels so good)
10. Going for mid-day walks to change up my location (feels more creative and days are less blurred)

This year's themes for me are creating, thriving, and exploring. Last year was focused on community and expansiveness. Last year, I fractured my L1 vertabrae after getting violently thrown off a horse - was bedridden for 3 months. I'm motivated to feel strong, athletic, and explosive again. Bright side - 7 solo skydive jumps!

👉 I'm not an engineer and I don't code. But I'm obsessed with software that enables Semitechnicals to do stuff previously only possible with code. 
👉 I like words – a lot – and enjoy spending my days writing about data and automation. And I thrive on simplifying and documenting complex processes involving lots of data movement. 
👉 I'm the calmest when the music is the loudest! As a serious listener, I don't listen to music while doing something that needs my full attention. I also make music using AI-powered tools. 
👉 I love all animals and enjoy hanging out with street dogs. 
👉 I'm fiercely passionate about water conservation, waste segregation, and plastic reduction.
👉 l Iike to walk, run, and read under the sun.
👉 I love making friends, organizing parties, and bringing people together.

We all want to build/belong to great companies. 

Insane valuations and $100M+ ARR are becoming commonplace. But that's not enough to make a company great.

So what does make a great company?

Well, everybody working together towards a common goal – without competing with each other – with access to internal knowledge and the creative freedom to act on that knowledge to work towards that common goal. 

I've worked at a few companies now and am glad to report that Clay is already there. 

And if I had to highlight one thing that makes it all possible, it would be this: 

The Clay leadership understands the importance of enabling individuals to pursue their interests. And they truly understand that the only way to sustain the growth is to enable others to have fun!

2025 was the most incredible year for me in terms of music.

In March, I discovered soul music (the genre) on a sunny afternoon while aimlessly walking the streets of San Francisco. 

I wasn’t even supposed to be there. But somehow I was. 

Soon after, I was obsessed with The Memphis Sound. Thanks to stumbling upon “Time is Tight” by Booker T. Jones at the City Lights book store that I happened to be passing by and decided to walk in.

Now, I always wanted to visit Memphis, but now had even more reason to do that. 

The best part? 

I had already booked my Memphis holiday earlier in January and was taking my wife along (her first time in the US). 

Long story short, I spend my 36th birthday in the birthplace of rock n roll. 🥁🥁

I can’t even begin to describe what it was like so sharing some highlights!

I had the privilege to visit the Civil Rights Musuem at the Lorraine Motel on my birthday earlier this year. 

The room in the picture is where MLK stayed. And the balcony is where he breathed his last. 

I’ve always been inspired by what MLK achieved but the museum experience was something else. 

Highly recommend visiting Memphis and starting your day at the Civil Right Museum. 

Belated Happy MLK day!

I never enjoyed making presentations for two reasons:

1) I prefer written memos over decks
2) If I have to make a deck, I end up spending way too much time perfecting every pixel

When it comes to AI tools, I've been deliberate about using them only when I find that they help me accomplish something that I wouldn't have been able to before. 

Or if they help me execute much faster without compromising on quality. 

Well, after a few weeks of tinkering, I can say with confidence that Gamma has won me over.

I cannot wait to turn every written piece of content I've created into a branded presentation!

I'm just really sad to see what's happening in America. 

I've been obsessed with America ever since I was a kid. I distinctly remember dreaming about being in Disneyland, only to wake up disappointed. 

I then saw so much of America through the hours of videos my dad made when he and my mom visited (I was 10 y/o). I've seen what the original twin towers looked like on the inside. 

Looking at the roads, I used to imagine how amazing it must be to drive at 120 Km/hour. How nice it must be not to be stuck in a jam or be honked at constantly. 

That same year, I started discovering Western music and was immediately obsessed. And to this day, I'm discovering music that originated in parts of America and I can't tell you how grateful I am. 

I tell people all the time that if I didn't have to work for money, I'd just read, write, and talk about the music I've discovered and how it's impacted my life. 

Last year, I made some of my dreams come true by visiting Memphis (I also learned that it's apparently the most dangerous city in America – not my experience though). 

I could go on about why I think America is so far ahead of India (and the rest of the world) when it comes to tech and innovation. But right now, it all seems meaningless. 

It's true that America was built on exploiting the weak. But that's not what made America great, was it? 

I can't wrap my head around the fact that some people believe that exploiting the weak is the answer to their problems. 

It's really not. In fact, quite the opposite.
