This map shows the top 100 stablecoins by market cap, split into four buckets. A few things jump out:

1. Fiat-backed is where the real battle is

This is where USDC, USDT, PYUSD, USDG and others live. These coins compete on regulation, disclosure, and banking access. 

= this is where corporates, fintechs, and neobanks are most comfortable parking real money.

2. Crypto-backed & hybrid are the s.c. innovation lab

DAI, GHO and others are stress-testing new collateral models and governance experiments. 

They’re incredibly important for DeFi, but most TradFi institutions will treat them as strategic exposure, not core treasury, until risk, liquidity, and regulation mature further.

3. Delta-neutral is the search for stable yield

These protocols try to generate yield while staying market-neutral. 

Interesting for on-chain funds and sophisticated traders, but still niche for traditional treasuries. 

Regulatory bodies are still holding them back.

So overall?

Distribution will decide the winners. 

The stablecoins on this map are just instruments.

The real power sits with the platforms that make them usable:

> Neobanks and BaaS platforms deciding which stablecoins become native in their stack

> Payment processors and PSPs embedding them into merchant flows

> Custodians and treasury platforms that turn them into usable products for corporates

Learn about Credit & Stablecoins

We need to talk about the real cost of launching yet another stablecoin.

Everyone loves to frame it as “more competition” and “more innovation”. 

But if we’re honest, flooding the market with new stablecoins is a fast track to liquidity fragmentation and systemic inefficiency.

Every new stablecoin splits liquidity across more pairs, more pools, more rails. 

Interoperability doesn’t magically appear just because everything is on-chain.

It has to be designed, governed, and maintained. 

Right now, it feels like we’re mostly just multiplying symbols.

And we’ve seen this before right?

TradFi already suffers from FX complexity with dozens of national currencies, constant rate fluctuations, hedging overhead, basis risk everywhere. 

We’re at risk of replicating it at higher resolution:

not just EUR vs. USD, but USDC vs. USDT vs. PYUSD vs. bank-coins vs. chain-native coins vs. every new “X-USD” someone spins up next quarter.

More stablecoins ≠ more stability ≠ easier markets

If anything, it’s more fragmentation, more friction, and more hidden cost for builders and users.

As always, I like to bridge these hard concepts with a softer meme approach...

so if you see me at an event, don't tell me issuing another stablecoin could be a smart idea, just for the sake of it...

Stablecoins are becoming the natural rails for machine-to-machine value transfer, stepping into what most likely to call "programmable finance".

Cool projects under the radar are:

x402 (protocol): An open, HTTP-native payments standard from Coinbase that allows clients (including AI agents) to pay in stablecoins to access APIs/content programmatically.

Privy (infrastructure): Wallet + onboarding stack for apps and agents to embed self-custodial wallets, key management, auth, and transaction signing via one API. 

Pay3 (platform): An enterprise stablecoin payments platform now rolling out an “Agentic Payments Platform” so AI agents can autonomously send/receive/settle stablecoin transactions with routing and real-time settlement; positioned for global rails and fiat on/off-ramps. 

Google Agent Payments Protocol (AP2): open payments standard developed that lets AI agents transact on behalf of users and businesses. It supports various payment methods including stablecoins, enabling agents to pay for services or receive payment in fiat-pegged crypto.

Aave Labs just dropped the killer app the crypto world has been waiting for.

On November 17, Aave launched the Aave App.

It is a mobile savings app that lets anyone earn 6–10% APY on stablecoins (with really zero crypto knowledge required)

No wallet. No seed phrase.

- Up to 10% with auto-deposits or referrals  

- $1M insurance per account (coming this month) 
 
- Already live on iOS, Android & web coming fast

This is HUGE to onboard trad users and owning distribution.

We are seeing it left and right.

Neobanks style is going to be the main narrative in 2026.

Aave turned the world’s safest DeFi protocol into the easiest way for normal people to earn crypto yields and they’re making stablecoins the new global money while doing it.
