Last week hit me with a kind of grief I wasn’t prepared for.

The kind that pauses everything, including you.

I’ve spent the past few days asking myself one question over and over: Where do I go from here?
Where do I start?

And honestly, I still don’t have the perfect answer.

But I think I know the first step:

Start again. Slowly & Quietly.

And allow life to rearrange itself the way it’s meant to.

China Declares All Real-World Asset (RWA) Tokenization Activities Illegal… What a shock.

I’ve been sharing RWA highlights and insights consistently for about 8 months now.

Most of what we’ve seen has been momentum; institutions experimenting, regulators engaging, builders shipping, capital moving onchain, and growing belief that tokenization is becoming part of the future financial system... the story has been consistent

So when this update came out about China, I paused. Not because it was unexpected, but because of how explicit it was.

For context, over the years, China has steadily tightened its grip on crypto:
 • 2017: ICOs and domestic exchanges banned
 • 2019–2020: blockchain activity restricted to state-approved use cases
 • Sept 2021: trading and mining outlawed nationwide

And in late November, the PBoC reaffirmed its stance: “Virtual currencies do not have the same legal status as fiat currencies and cannot be used as currency in the market.”

Now, regulators have gone a step further.

On December 5, 2025 seven of China’s most influential financial industry associations, spanning banking, securities, funds, futures, payments, listed companies, and internet finance, issued a joint warning:

• no RWA tokenization activities have been approved
• issuance, trading, or promotion of tokenized real-world assets is illegal in mainland China

For the first time, RWA tokenization was explicitly named alongside stablecoins, mining, and airdrops as prohibited activity.

The last time this kind of coalition moved together was September 24, 2021, the action that effectively wiped China’s share of global Bitcoin mining from 75% to near zero.

Regulators cited familiar concerns:
 • Fake or unverifiable underlying assets
 • Project failures and speculative behavior
 • Unapproved fundraising
 • And, critically, capital flight

The fear is simple, tokenized assets could become a rail for moving value offshore, bypassing capital controls.

From China’s perspective, this isn’t just about crypto. It’s about control, monetary sovereignty, and financial stability.

Here’s the part most people miss though 👇

This isn’t a global rejection of RWA. It’s a geopolitical divergence.

While China shuts the door completely:
 • The US is approving tokenized securities pilots
 • Europe is building stablecoin frameworks
 • The Middle East is actively attracting tokenized asset capital
 • Institutions are issuing real products, not testnets

So no, this doesn’t kill RWA tokenization, but it does redraw the map.

Builders will build where rules are clear. Capital will flow where participation is allowed. And innovation will move to jurisdictions that let markets experiment.

This update isn’t bullish or bearish. It’s a reminder that, Tokenization isn’t just a technical shift, it’s a political and regulatory one.

And those lines are becoming clearer by the week.

That’s exactly how tokenization sounds to some people today.

History doesn’t shout. It whispers first.

The question is, are you paying attention?

On the 12th November, 2025 at Singapore’s Fintech Festival, Visa announced one of the most important updates in global payments this year, and I don’t think people fully understand how big this is.

They’re launching direct stablecoin payouts for freelancers and creators.

Here’s why this hit me:
Anyone who has ever worked with international clients knows the pain - different banks, different payout rules, 3–5 day payout duration, random fees, and in some cases you literally can’t receive USD unless you open a specific type of account in a specific country.

With this pilot, all of that becomes optional. Businesses can pay in fiat.

Creators/freelancers can choose to receive in USDC, instantly, straight to a stablecoin wallet.

No more “sorry your bank/location doesn’t support this.”

No more waiting days/weeks for funds to drop.

You receive money arrives as it is sent.

Visa also shared data showing that 57% of creators choose digital payouts mainly because of instant access.

So they’re not launching this out of curiosity, they’re literally responding to demand.

To me, this is the first real signal that stablecoin payouts are moving from “crypto thing” to “global payouts infrastructure.”
