Co-founder @ Kinfolk | AI agents for Workforce Ops

We just went live with a global company of ~4,000 employees.

They moved from ServiceNow HRSD and Zendesk for HR to a single system built around how employees actually ask for help.

- Conversational AI in Slack
- AI-triaged ticketing purpose-built for People teams
- Lifecycle program automation, starting with onboarding
- Reporting and analytics
- Integrated to Workday and multiple knowledge bases

That brings People programs and support into a single operating layer for the entire HR team, and a unified entry point for employees. 

As with any implementation, the tech is only half the story. 
The other half is change management.

Can't yet publicly call out the individuals, but this wouldn't have happened without a People team willing to rethink old defaults, challenge how work flows today, and commit to a new way of supporting employees at scale.

This is what modern employee support looks like when teams design for how work actually happens.

So damn excited for 2026. There has never been a bigger moment for HR to step fully into its strategic role, thanks to AI.

Nickle LaMoreaux, CHRO at IBM, sums it up nicely (via Charter)

“The reason HR departments don’t always provide that higher consumer grade experience is because they are bogged down in the transactions that have to be done.

In a world of an AI agent, you can give the organization accurate, at their fingertips transactions. But you can also give them this higher order HR service around talent management and culture. That’s the big unlock here.”

AI agents change the shape of the job. Transactions get handled at the point of need. HR gets time back for judgment, talent, culture, and trust.

This is not about doing HR faster. It's about finally being able to dedicate more time to the parts of HR that require human capability.

2026 feels like the year HR can stop fighting the workload and start unlocking capacity to shape the org again.

We are already seeing this shift start to happen with teams using Kinfolk.

HR is about to get something they've not had in years: real capacity.

Because a large class of work starts to disappear. 

Tier 0-1 questions. Admin follow ups. Pulling reports. Tracking participation.  The work that quietly eats the week.

AI agents are already absorbing this layer inside large organisations. 

At ServiceNow, AI has doubled productivity in employee support, shifting from one HR person per 400 employees to one per 800. That capacity has been redeployed into people partner roles and into training the AI itself. 

At IBM and Cisco, AI agents now handle large volumes of routine questions, while HR professionals focus more on coaching and complex human situations. That shift changes the role of HR.

When transactions are handled at the point of need, HR stops being the system of response and becomes the system of judgment. 

Talent decisions. Fairness. Workforce redesign. Trust in a world where humans and machines work together. This is why 2026 matters.

Roughly half of executives expect HR headcount to decrease as AI absorbs transactional work (McKinsey & Company). I think it's more that HR administrative headcount does not increase as the org grows.

The real question is where that freed capacity goes. The opportunity is to use the space AI creates to redefine what the function exists to do.

Optimistic about this year. HR has a chance to lead, not react. Let's go.

There's a growing assumption that AI will hollow out junior roles.

That only holds if junior work stays defined by volume execution.

What is more interesting is what happens when that definition changes. When repetitive tasks disappear, junior roles stop being about throughput and start being about judgment sooner.

You can see this shift emerging at Shopify. 
AI is treated as the default teammate. 
Teams ask what AI can do before hiring. 
And early career and intern hiring has expanded, not shrunk.

The logic is simple. AI absorbs the mechanical work. Humans focus on framing problems, directing systems, validating outputs, and learning how decisions actually get made.

That is Shopify’s "AI centaur” model in practice. People and machines designed to work together to extend human capabilities from day one. 

For HR, the implication is about redesigning junior roles, not protecting them or getting rid of all of them.

If AI is removing transactional work, junior roles cannot be training grounds for transactions anymore. They need to be training grounds for judgment, systems thinking, and human capability.

2026 feels like the year this becomes a real design choice.
