I joined as a writer but instead I was doing 100 comments per day on linkedin. 

When I took up the project I thought that most of my time would go in writing. 

But mostly I was replying to comments, handling DMs, and engaging on other people’s posts. 

I was irritated and felt like my creativity was wasted but since it was my first project I didn’t want to lose it.

I did it for 3-4 weeks and when I finally started writing posts, I was surprised at how it helped me write excellent posts.

While engaging, I was not just not commenting, I would spend most of time, 

- Reading competitors' content.
- Observing the kind of posts people engaged with.
- Noticing the questions people asked again and again.
- Seeing what content people enjoyed and what they ignored.

I never enjoyed that role, but still indirectly it helped me get better at my research.

When you are just starting you might not get projects as per your liking but don’t say NO, give them a chance because it will eventually help you earn more.

Which is one project that you took and disliked it completely but now feel proud that you did that project ?

Most viral content I’ve written for my clients didn’t come from scrolling LinkedIn.

It came from deep research and understanding what clients has experienced. 

That’s why I spend more time on 

Reddit communities to read about what everyone is talking.

Twitter, to find out latest trends and topics.

Google, to understand what’s happening in an industry

ChatGPT (deep thinking mode) or Perplexity to research or explore angles I might miss

Sometimes Instagram or YouTube, just to see what others are talking.

Once I have the topic, then I add the clients pov and work on drafting the content.

With A.I, now anyone can write on generic topics. 

But if you truly want to build the authority, 

Spend more time on finding the right topic.
Share more from personal learnings.
Add your honest opinion to the trending topics.

This is how you make your content worth reading.

In my first year of freelancing, I lost over $3000 without even realizing it.

When I started freelancing, my only goal was simple:
“Get clients.”
And I did.

My days looked like this:

📍 Writing for clients
📍Designing stuff for them
📍Managing calls, follow ups, reports
📍Sending invoices, doing revisions

I was the writer, designer, manager, accounts, everything, actually I was working 9–10 hours a day, always tired, and still not growing.

Looking back, these 3 mistakes cost me the most money and energy:
No clear process for getting leads
I relied referrals, DMs and random cold outreach

One month I had 3 new clients.
Next month I had zero.

Because I had no:

📍Clear offer
📍Simple lead gen system
📍Weekly actions to bring new people in

When 2 clients left at the same time, my income dropped overnight.
If I had a basic system, I wouldn’t have panicked that hard.
Delaying systems because “I’m still small”

I kept telling myself:
“I’ll create a proper process later.”
“Let me get a few more clients first.”

So I delayed:

- Onboarding documents
- Basic contracts
- Content and outreach routine
- Simple tracking of income and goals

The result?
Everything had to be done from scratch every single time.
More time, more confusion, more mistakes.

I thought I was “saving time.”
I was actually losing money and burning energy.

Not hiring or collaborating to save money
I wanted to “do it all myself.”

Design, strategy, writing, client calls, follow ups.
It felt cheaper.

But this is what really happened:

- I said yes to projects I didn’t have capacity for
- I under-delivered on some work because I was exhausted
- I had to say no to good leads because I couldn’t handle more
- If I had collaborated with a designer or another writer early on,
- I could have taken more projects and done better work.

What I do differently now:
- I treat lead generation like a daily task, not a “when I get time” thing
- I set up simple processes before I desperately need them
- I pay people so I can buy back my time and energy

If you’re in your first year of freelancing, learn from my mistakes.
You don’t need to wait till burnout to take your business seriously.

This is what most people think I am going to do because AI is here. 

Honestly AI is everywhere from 
WhatsApp messages, emailers, reels, content, articles, videos.

Yes barrier to entry the bar has gone ever lower.

Now anyone can write and find strategies using A.I

I don’t hate Ai, it would be stupid to say that because it has helped in simplifying so many tasks at work. 

But contrary to what everyone says, I believe it’s that human writing is still going to rule. 

People are now craving real and rawness instead of perfect polished content.

Soon human storytellers will have an advantage. 

People will pay premium for human stories. 

So no matter what anyone says, 
I know that I can excel and you can too if you if use your human brain with AI rather being dependent on AI for creativity.

Do you also feel bored of watching same polished content everywhere ?

You want to make money from LinkedIn but you’re stuck in likes, impressions, and scrolling.

You are not alone, I was there too.

Posting randomly, checking notifications after every like and spending hours engaging.

It felt draining and I wasn’t making money.

Here is what I actually did and you can do it too to monetise your Linkedin.

1) Get intentional with posting
Posting randomly keeps you invisible.
Clarity helps you make money.

Pick your niche, 

For me, it’s personal branding and LinkedIn growth.

The goal is to make any one understand what you offer after reading 2-3 of your posts. 

2) Fix your profile before you post more. 

Your content creates interest.
Your profile converts it.

You banner, headline and bio should communicate what you do and who you help. 

Example:
If you help founders with LinkedIn growth, your profile should clearly say:
“I help founders turn LinkedIn into a lead channel through content and positioning.”

3) Measure the right things

Likes and followers feel good. I’m not saying ignore them.

But start watching:

• Who likes your posts consistently
• Who visits your profile again and again

When you notice them, don’t wait. Start conversations in the DMs. 

4) Stop engaging mindlessly

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again.

Don’t waste time engaging with everyone.

Have a clear engagement strategy:
• Engage with people at a similar stage as you
• Engage with people who are just starting out
• And always, always engage with your ICP

This will help you build relationship and visibility.

5) Outreach (I wish I started this earlier)

I like using Sales Navigator to find the right people. 

One thoughtful message to the right person beats 50 random DMs any day.

If LinkedIn is not bringing you leads right now, it’s not because the platform is bad.
It’s because the strategy needs fixing.

If you’re trying to grow on LinkedIn in 2026, here’s what’s genuinely working for me and my clients right now.

> Posting around 5 times a week makes a big difference, especially around 1–2 PM or 7–9 PM IST. 

You don’t need to go viral, you just need to be visible to the right people.

> Daily comments matter more than people think.

Around 15 real comments on your ICP’s posts, top creators, or people building similar things. 
Not “great post”, but actual thoughts.

> DMs still work, but only when they’re real.

Connecting and talking like a normal human instead of pitching in the first message.

I also try to reach out to at least 20 people every day. New connections, old leads, people I’ve spoken to before. It adds up quietly.

One of the biggest mistakes I see founders and consultants make on LinkedIn is this:

They optimise for output instead of impact.

More posts.
More comments.
More activity.

And yet… no real conversations.

What most people don’t realise is that LinkedIn doesn’t reward effort, it rewards clarity.

If someone lands on your profile after reading your post and still has to guess:

-> What you actually help with
-> Who it’s for
-> And why it matters

they won’t DM you.
They’ll just scroll.

That’s why posting consistently can still feel frustrating.

You’re visible, but not memorable. 
Active, but not obvious.

Real traction on LinkedIn starts when your message does one thing well:

it makes the right person feel seen.

When that happens, content stops being content.
It becomes a filter.

And the DMs that come in aren’t random, they’re relevant.

If LinkedIn feels noisy but not useful for you right now, it might be worth asking:

am I creating activity or am I creating understanding?

There’s a big difference.

A few months ago, someone half my age booked a call with me.

He knew what he wanted to build.
He knew who he wanted to work with.
And he was already thinking long-term.

That conversation stayed with me.

Because if I’m honest, I didn’t start LinkedIn with that kind of clarity.

I started messy.

Posting when I felt confident.
Disappearing when I didn’t.
Second-guessing every word.
Wondering if any of this was even worth it.

There were weeks where nothing happened.
No replies.
No DMs.
No validation.

Only silence.

And that silence teaches you things no course ever will.

It teaches you that showing up online isn’t about going viral.
Or looking smart.
Or sounding “professional.”

It’s about:

→ Saying what you actually think, not what performs
→ Learning to be clear before trying to be clever
→ Staying visible even when no one’s clapping
→ Letting your perspective mature in public
→ Building trust before asking for attention
→ Choosing consistency over confidence

That’s the part people don’t romanticise.

But that’s where the real brand is built.

Today, most of my work comes from people who’ve been watching quietly.
People who never commented.
Never liked.
Never engaged.

They just paid attention.

Personal branding compounds.
Not when you chase outcomes,
but when you commit to the process.

Start earlier if you can.
But if you’re starting now, start properly.

And don’t stop when it gets quiet.
That’s usually when it’s working.

Most founders I speak to aren’t struggling with effort.
They’re struggling with response.

They’re posting.
They’re showing up.
They’ve even invested in “good-looking” content.

Yet their inbox is quiet.

Not because they’re invisible.
But because the content doesn’t signal the right thing.

I see this pattern every week with:

-> Consultants who sound smart but feel interchangeable
-> Founders with clarity offline but confusion online
-> Creators who get likes, not conversations

The problem isn’t consistency.
And it’s definitely not “posting more”.

It’s misalignment.

When someone works with me, we don’t start with:

× How to game engagement
× How many posts to publish
× How aesthetic the design should be

“What should the right person feel after seeing this?”
