Assist veterans who are transitioning from the military into technological roles by:

• Aide in the job preparation and search
• Continue to meet and assist them throughout their new career

Identify application fixes and create issues for the community to complete. Work with board members and executive directors establishing new feature plans to positively impact the veteran community. Utilize React.js and Next.js to build out new features as well as pair program to assist other developers. Review pull requests for optimal solutions and enhancements.

Collaborate with other software engineers, front-end developers, quality assurance specialists, designers, and project managers to architect and deliver quality/ maintainable software that meets the client’s objectives

The technologies we use include but are not limited to: BitBucket, Confluence, JavaScript, Node.js, Vue.js, Perl, and MySQL.

What am I most proud of in this role?
We typically create many projects that are more or less copies of each other. I noticed that we were having an increase of these projects and the hours were becoming cumbersome as well as the same bugs kept showing up in each project.

To address these issues I created bash scripts that would take the promotion from the initial clone through to it's final deploy in seconds. A separate commit was made for each feature added, and everything was then standardized. I created documentation for others on the team to utilize in case they also wish to use these scripts, and added a few bonus scripts in there to expedite their daily processes.

The outcome of this work decreased projects scoped at 25hrs of SWE work to only minutes. In my final week I was able to use these to complete 75hrs of scoped SWE time in less than 15min. This not only opened up more time for myself and the team to work on other pressing matters, but also greatly reduced the cost for the company to build out these projects. Saving more than 2 weeks of a developer's time as well as additional time for QA due to the standard created and less room for error.

• Was an integral part in the pilot program for the Customer Service Real-Time Information System (CYRIS), which became the new standard Coast Guard wide.

• Was responsible for up to 350 personnel records spanning 4 states and 2 time zones.
