The Strandhill Indonesian Relief Fund (SIRF) was a non for profit organization dedicated to tackling poverty and suffering in Java, Indonesia. 

SIRF was founded in 2006 after a devastating earthquake struck the island of Java. 

Relief Program - Working in partnership with our sister charity MUMBALI, we worked directly with the local people to enable them to improve their quality of life. Priority was given to upgrading primary community health clinics, educational facilities and developing sources of clean water. All personal time, energy and supplies were given on a voluntary basis and this was the foundation for SIRF’s success

The Kindergarten Project - When the devastating Earthquake struck in Jogyakarta in May 2006 there was an immediate reaction and aid and poured into the area. This short-term assistance while desperately needed soon dried up. 

Over five years SIRF created and held events and with the funds raised oversaw the building of five kindergarten schools. Whilst the result is only a small scratch on the surface of the overall problem, the success of the Kindergarten Project confirmed that insinuating aid with a simple bottom up approach is an effective may to make a real difference.

Our diaspora is returning, lured by fulfilling careers that offer an unmatched work-life balance. The launch of the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is paving the way for towns to potentially transform into vibrant university hubs, aiming to reverse the brain drain and attract investments to contribute to the region's resurgence.

Amidst the promising prospects presented by Offshore Wind energy, we're also confronting challenges posed by infrastructure gaps and a housing crises. We're united in our determination to address these issues collectively, charting the course for a thriving and resilient West.

Central to our mission is our Western Investment Fund, an evergreen fund currently valued at €90M. This fund serves as a catalyst for scaling companies across the region, fostering innovation, and driving entrepreneurship.

Alongside a team of experts at the WDC, we've established a compelling brand rooted in storytelling. Our efforts spotlight the advantages of living, working, and investing in the West of Ireland. From the launch of westernjobs.ie, which connects talent with local opportunities, to the "Moving West" TV show that captures authentic stories, our content resonates with diverse audiences.

The Connected Hubs initiative, a cornerstone of Ireland's "Our Rural Future" strategy, is a testament to collaborative potential. Collaborations with industry leaders like Zoom, Cisco and others have nurtured an innovation ecosystem, empowering hub managers and supporting communities.

Before my time with the WDC, I worked at IDA Ireland, which is tasked with growing and sustaining foreign direct investment in Ireland. I also held several senior positions in private sector companies including the telecommunications sector and in public relations.

Beyond my professional roles, I'm committed to community and cultural development. As a festival co-coordinator and founder, I cultivate connections that extend beyond the boardroom.
