I used to forget the best ideas the moment a call ended.

As a Copywriter, I need to remember stuff. Who knew? I work on 20 things a day from brand voice to campaign ideas to making sure our emails don’t sound like they were written by a bot.

But honestly, like most creative creatures, I spend a lot of time in calls and I've got an awful memory (not a great combo). I’d leave a meeting full of ideas… and forget half of them by lunch.

Grammarly → catching spelling mistakes because no one's perfect, hun.

Because the real job of a copywriter isn’t typing words.

It’s having good ideas. And those buggers don't just come out of nowhere.

A conversation I keep having with other founders: administrative tasks are costing US and UK businesses $954 billion every year.

How do I know this? Because we ran an international study with 5,000 office workers to find out. I actually shared that number on LinkedIn recently and it got a strong reaction.

So I want to go deeper into what the data actually shows.

The average employee loses 5.6 hours a week to admin they believe AI could automate. That's nearly a full working day, every week, absorbed by low-value tasks.

And this isn't fixed to junior roles either. The admin burden scales with seniority, meaning the higher the salary, the steeper the cost to the business. 

High earners spend 76 minutes a day on admin that AI could automate. Those are the most expensive hours in any organization being lost to repetitive tasks like email and data entry.

It’s also causing a toll on your team. 48% of the workforce has considered leaving their role because admin is getting in the way of doing their job. That's a serious retention risk most businesses haven't even considered.

But there is a clear path forward.

1) Start tracking admin as a business cost and set measurable targets for reducing it.

2) Look at where AI can take the load, starting with the highest-volume, lowest-value tasks.

The Admin Burden Index shows us the scale of this hidden overhead that's holding our businesses and economies back, and it proves it just doesn't have to be this way.
