The fastest way to get unstuck is to make something ugly and structured. I use Claude for this. Here's the move:

Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed by a project, I ask Claude to generate some frameworks based on all the inputs & information. 

The key insight here is to ask Claude to think in STRUCTURES. To help you develop some scaffolding around how to move forward. The frameworks Claude proposes may not be right, but they give you something to react to. A stake in the ground that helps you move forward. 

Here’s an example: On a recent project, there were snippets & key details scattered across my gmail, slack threads, a deck, a few docs, etc. I felt like a squirrel trying to dig them all up and connect them together. I knew I had lots of valuable info to communicate but couldn’t yet see the shape of how it all connected. 

I pulled it all into Claude (with MCP connectors turned on, all you have to do is give Claude keywords to search!) and asked: “What are different ways I could structure all this info? Give me 5 different frameworks for thinking about this."

To iterate further, these are some more detailed prompt directions I like:

- I can’t figure out what to do first → “Propose a decision tree for this project”
- I need to identify the tradeoffs → “Turn this into a 2x2... help me find the right axes”
- I don’t know what I’m optimizing for → “Propose 3 criteria I could be scoring against”
- I’m unclear on the project’s goals → “What would a before/after look like for this?”
- I need to get my team on the same page → “Turn this into a timeline with phases”

Next time you’re stuck, start by giving it shape. Think in structures with Claude... with permission to make it ugly! See if that helps turns chaos into clarity. 🌊

This past Saturday, I declared a "connection day." 

Put my phone on airplane mode, tucked away inside a sock inside a backpack. (I needed it to be really hard to access lol). It was an experiment. 

To start the day, my partner and I biked over the bridge into Manhattan. As we walked, mostly, we noticed. 

We watched the assembly line of bagel sandwich production at the bagel shop, a true choreography. We remarked on the antiquated flyers on the bulletin board while we waited for coffee. We sat in the park to enjoy our bagels and listened as a park musician got warmed up.

He started singing "Here Comes the Sun" and we noticed incredulously as the sun really DID come out after a morning of clouds. We gave him two dollars—a thank you for bringing out the sun. We stood in between the trees in the park and turned our faces to the sun and drank it up like honeybees.

The thing I felt most was the impulse of grabbiness. To take a picture. Or to jot something in my Notes app. There's usually a rush when I notice something interesting—an impulse to save it, mark it down for later. It's like we need to do something to "possess the moment."

When I couldn't do that, I just let moments happen and trusted they'd either stick or not. There was nothing in my right hand, nothing in my back pocket, nothing mediating between me and what I was looking at.

For the first hour, this felt really strange. By hour 3, I'd settled into a groove. By hour 5, I didn't want the day to be over.

I think there's a way that noting and saving and capturing feels like productive life-living when really we're just squirreling away thoughts and insights for the future.

It's hard to describe tangibly just how good this day felt. I came into this week calmer, lighter, more present than I've felt in a while. It was creatively renewing. We're going to make it a monthly ritual. 🌱

So here I am, extending the invitation to try a connection day. Or invite someone to go on a long connection walk with you. I don't think I could have done this alone… having someone equally bought into the experience is what made it work.

The first hour will feel weird. Push through. By hour three you might not want it to end.
