Do the New Dietary Guidelines Actually Change Anything?

🌾 What really happens when clients hit ~30g of fiber per day? Most people know fiber is “good for digestion.” But the effects go way beyond regularity.

A recent article I wrote for EatingWell just got published on what happens when you eat ~30 grams of fiber per day. 

Here are some of the benefits:

🧠 Satiety + weight support
Fiber slows digestion and stimulates GLP-1 release, increasing fullness and supporting appetite regulation. This is especially relevant for weight management and GLP-1 conversations.

❤️ Cholesterol & cardiometabolic health
Soluble fiber binds LDL cholesterol in the gut, reducing reabsorption. Even small increases can lead to meaningful improvements in lipid markers.

🚽 Gut motility & constipation relief
Both soluble and insoluble fiber matter. One supports stool bulk and smooth passage, the other speeds transit time. This combo is key for clients with chronic constipation.

🦠 Microbiome & inflammation
Fermentable fibers feed beneficial gut bacteria, increasing short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, which are linked to lower inflammation and gut barrier integrity.

🎯 Clinical takeaway for practitioners:
 Instead of “eat more fiber,” try framing it as:
 • 8–10g per meal
 • 3–5g per snack
 • Build gradually to avoid GI distress

Small, consistent food swaps (legumes, seeds, whole grains, berries) often work better than drastic overhauls.

📊 This week's reality: I’m juggling several professional presentations with deadlines quickly approaching—and it hit me: I need a better system to manage all the moving parts.

🎤 As my speaking work grows, this will be my first year with over a dozen speaking engagements, each with slightly different (yet overlapping) topics, timelines, and requirements. Staying organized isn’t optional anymore—it’s essential, because honestly I was starting to feel overwhelmed yesterday.

How I plan to get organized with multiple presentations & deadlines:

🗂 Utilize a project management tool
I use the free version of ClickUp to keep deadlines organized. I’ve created buckets for article deadlines, projects, media queries, and now—presentations. I’m currently adding more nuance, like tracking key dates (initial drafts, revisions, final decks).

📁 Create presentation-specific folders in Google Drive
I want all the moving parts in one place, so I create a folder for each presentation with:

✅ Logistics & due dates (especially for travel)
✅ Requirements
✅ Drafted outlines and slide links

This makes it easy to jump in when I have focused time—without digging through emails.

🔗 Keep past presentations in one master document
Since I speak on similar topics (GLP-1s, weight management, etc.), I keep all past slide links in one document. When starting something new, I can pull an existing deck, copy it, and refine with updated research—rather than starting from scratch.

🔄 An evolving system
This process is still evolving, but my goal this year is more efficiency, better focus, and less overwhelm—so I can actually enjoy creating presentations.
