It’s time you stop copying what your competitors are doing. 

The fact that they’re in the same nich as you doesn’t mean you’re playing the same game. 

Your business, your values, your brand and your audience are diffrent. 

Their business might be all shiny on the outside but scamble on the inside. 
There’s no way of knowing what’s really going on behind the scenes. 
Their “transparency” might be just an act. 

I don’t think I need to spend much time on explaining the difference in values and branding. Your values can be very similar but you embody them in a different way than someone else would which also changes how your audience perceives your brand. 

The audience you attract will differ from the audience that your competitors attract. 
We’re all different humans. All with unique traits. All click with different humour, style and personalities. 

So if you try to copy someone else’s marketing because you THINK it’s successful, you’re not doing yourself any favours. 

I’m not saying that you need to re-invent the wheel and never look around for a bit. I encourage that. Do your research. 

But please don’t copy what you see to the detail.

It’s not original. It won’t resonate the same way as it did for them. And it isn’t guaranteed to work for you just because it did for them. 

Research but put on your critical glasses before you copy&paste.

Let’s talk about this whole camping situation 🏕️

Everyone is divided into camps these days.

Haters vs lovers of [insert whatever polarising opinion you can think of].

Everything is black and white.

Or at least, that’s how most marketing on LinkedIn feels these past few months.

On one hand, I see the point.
Your marketing should attract people alike and repel those who aren’t ‘your tribe’.

On the other hand, it can feel exhausting.
Always reading harsh opinions on the feed, feeling like you’ve got two options.
You either agree. Or you don’t.

No space for grey areas.

Expressing your beliefs in your marketing is super powerful.
It really does bring the right people closer to you.

But not every post has to be either black or white.
Especially if you aren’t that opinionated in person.

The constant opinions and call-outs have a negative effect on your personal brand and on your audience.

It’s like cooking a nice warm stew.

If all you keep adding to the pot is salt… At some point, you’ll cross a line.

But if you find a nice balance between salt, pepper and all the other seasonings… you’ll prepare a great pot of yum.

Keep your marketing spicy, but don’t forget about all the other elements that make it whole 🌶️
