🔍💡 When AWS Compute Optimizer automation launched at re:Invent, one of the first things customers noticed was snapshots appearing in their accounts with no clear origin. The question kept coming up,  "where are these coming from?" 🤔

AWS just answered that. ✅

Compute Optimizer now automatically tags every snapshot it creates with:
🏷️ aws:compute-optimizer:automation-event-id

A direct link back to the automation event that triggered it.

Here's why this matters more in practice than it sounds on paper 👇

When Compute Optimizer snapshots and deletes an unattached EBS volume, that snapshot is your safety net 🛡️. It's what makes rollback possible, if you ever need to reverse the action, Compute Optimizer recreates the volume from that exact snapshot, restoring all your original tags. But if you can't identify which snapshots belong to Compute Optimizer, you risk accidentally deleting them and losing your ability to roll back entirely. ⚠️

Now with the automation event tag, you can:
✅ Trace any snapshot back to the specific automation event that created it
✅ Protect the right snapshots from accidental deletion
✅ Use the Automation Events dashboard to review step history, estimated savings, and trigger rollbacks
✅ Build tag-based lifecycle policies that target only Compute Optimizer snapshots
✅ Layer organization-level rules on top of account-level ones across all your member accounts

🚀 And the automation itself is more powerful than people realize, rules can run daily, weekly, or monthly, scoped by region or resource tags, with up to 100 concurrent actions per account per region.

The tagging feature closes the last visibility gap in that workflow. Small addition. Big operational impact. 🎯
