Nuclear, geothermal, and fracking were all invented in NM. Makes sense to have it be the energy hub of the future.

Advice I would give my child if they were in college right now:

1 - you can't seize an opportunity you don't have. Focus on getting the offers, not which one you would accept. 

2 - nobody knows what they are doing or how the world will look, so even a few hours a week of extra effort learning and working with AI will put you miles ahead. 

3 - learning changes threats to excitement. Yesterday a dentist in my neighborhood built an AI setup with his son who is studying accounting. His son is excited, many accounting students are scared. 

4 - I truly believe the future is bright, even if bumpy.

There is a direct correlation between how much time founders are spending with AI and how seriously they take the changing future. There are moments every week that require rethinking everything.

AI is going to force reindustrialization in the US even faster than expected. Capital and talent will be looking for a place to go as belief in pure software is compressed.

One state is going to figure this out. Open the doors to data centers while demand is white hot, set up long-term tax plan, and get the equivalent of Alaska and New Mexico oil added to your state budget.

Really great opportunity for deeptech startups that need more derisking in the lab.

In the last year I welcomed my third child (3 kids under 5, FTW!), moved my family and GetPlaza.ai from Utah to Tennessee to honor the Brickyard handshake, re-structured the team and re-underwrote our engineering team to be AI-based, drank unhealthy levels of caffeine, started coding, lost a loved one, and made new friends in Chattanooga. A monumental moment for the team at Graza today. It turns out it’s incredibly difficult to make mayo using only olive oils, but that’s what we do here at Graza. If we can create things that add next level flavor, made from ingredients we believe in, we work tirelessly to make it possible. Our fancy mayo is the first mayo ever made exclusively using an unrefined oil, being our extra virgin olive oil. 

What started as just an olive oil company, is evolving quickly into something much larger and magnificent, and I’m honored to work alongside our incredible team in this next phase of our growth. Throughout my career, I’ve operated at the intersection of high-growth technology, entrepreneurship, and venture capital — building, investing, and advising. This next chapter feels like a return to that core.

We’ve entered a generational cycle across AI infrastructure and energy systems, and I wanted to be closer to the capital formation and company-building happening across deep technology, including aerospace, cyber, and next-generation compute.

Massive invests from Seed+ through Series B, focusing on true inflection points — when breakthrough technology, early traction, and market timing converge as companies transition from innovation to commercial scale. I’ve been especially impressed with the current portfolio and the caliber of companies we’re backing.

I've been thinking hard about what this moment in venture really means.

A veteran LP said something to me recently that crystallized it.

He's been allocating since before the GFC — through Web 1.0, SaaS, crypto, and now AI hyperscale.

He leaned back and said: "It's refreshing to know venture capital is finally back to where it all started."

Venture was built to underwrite the impossible — long before the markets that needed it existed. The job was never to chase certainty.

The last cycle had real winners. But then money got cheap, conviction gave way to consensus, and when rates rose — something clarifying happened.

The managers who always relied on discipline found themselves exactly where they wanted to be.

The next cycle rewards a different skill set. Hard, inevitable problems. Patient capital. Conviction built over years — not borrowed from the headlines.

I just published a piece on the Massive Substack exploring why I think the hunger gap is real for emerging managers— not as a case against established platforms, but as a case for building both.

It’s a topic that’s come up in a lot of conversations lately — and one I’ve been wanting to put into writing for a while.

The burning question from investors and allocators alike as we enter this next cycle of venture remains:

Where does the next layer of alpha come from?

In my prior role working closely with LPs, I watched the best allocators wrestle with this in real time. And the answer was rarely either/or.

The most sophisticated portfolios weren’t abandoning blue chip managers — they were pairing them intentionally with high-conviction emerging managers playing a completely different role.

That experience shaped how I think about venture portfolio construction. And it’s a big part of why I joined Massive.
