That was the comment. Tons of reactions. A thread of replies debating whether I'd crossed a line.

The post stayed up. It performed beautifully. And the person telling me to delete it?

She did more for my reach that week than any social strategy ever could. :) 

Here's a dirty little secret about building a presence online:

The people demanding you tone it down are the same people making sure your content spreads.

Every, "this is such an insular self-serving post" is a signal to the algorithm. Every hater is an unpaid member of your marketing team.

I've been called:

•Cringe
•Self-serving
•An ego maniac
•"The toilet age of LinkedIn"

And my business has never been better. The data backs this up:

→ 71% of consumers are more likely to buy when a CEO is active on social 
→ 86% say authenticity is a key factor in brand support 
→ 60% of decision-makers pay a premium for companies with strong thought leadership

You know what the data doesn't support?

Playing it safe. Hedging every take. Being so "balanced" that nobody remembers you said anything.

The algorithm doesn't reward polite. It rewards reaction. The market doesn't reward neutral. It rewards conviction.

Your critics aren't your problem. Obscurity is.

The voice in my head has been LOUD lately.

"You're just getting lucky. Won't last long, loser."

I hate that voice. So I did what I always do when I need to chill out: I started writing. And I realized something.

I've spent five years helping CEOs get visible. But I'd never named the thing I was actually fighting against.

So I put a name to it. The Invisibility Tax.

It's the price you pay for staying hidden. And it's higher than you think.

→ 86% of enterprise buyers have a shortlist before they start researching. If you're not on it, you don't exist.

→ Companies with no reputation pay a 10% salary premium on every hire just to get people to say yes.

→ 44% of your company's market value is tied to YOUR reputation as CEO. For a $20M company, that's $9 million sitting in an asset you're investing exactly zero in.

I found these stats and thought: this might have legs. So I copy + pasted a bunch of my writing.

Got it to 50 k words, then 30 k. Then I thought, CEOs don't want to be 
bludgeoned with data, cut it in half again. 

It's basically an hour of listening. You could finish it on your commute.

But here's what I want you to take from today: You're probably closer than you think.

The voice telling you you're behind, that you got lucky, that it won't last?
Mine says the same thing.

Don't let it rob you of the work you're already doing.

Anxiety, a Book Idea, and a $9 Million Dollar Problem

If you're not Matt Firestone, glue yourself to the rocketship.

I saw that in 17 minutes his post had 43 reactions. This thing was going to the moon. 

So what could I say? The hamster wheel started spinning fast.

Mentioned being hardcore...School of Rock reference incoming...what would be a ridiculous thing to insert cold calling with...getting married...short finish—worked out. *chef's kiss*

So as you're scrolling your feed supporting your friends today, keep an eye out for the posts that are going places. Under an hour and doing 50 reactions? Jump on it.

Then, do these 4 things:

1. Pattern Interrupt. Do something unexpected.
2. Keep it short and understated. It's usually funnier.
3. Line Breaks = Better engagement. Each one is its own dopamine hit.
4. Broad appeal, inside joke. 

Another way to think about it: Setup, Build, Twist, Land.

People read slower. They stay engaged longer. 

And you get rewarded with a shower of impressions. (and profile visitors - can't hurt)

I lost $200,000 because I couldn't describe what I do.

Not because I was bad at it. I was talking to the wrong people.

Here's what changed:

BEFORE: "I help busy CEOs who don't have time to post on LinkedIn."

AFTER: "I help $2-50M ARR CEOs turn 30 minutes/month into posts that attract talent, close deals, and open doors."

Same service. Different buyer. 4x the revenue.

The words you use to describe a problem determine which tier of buyer shows up.

Most businesses say: "You're broken, let me fix you."

The best companies say: "You're succeeding, I remove the constraint keeping you from winning bigger."

Notion could say: "Your notes are disorganized."

Instead they say: "Your team is scaling, but knowledge is scattered across 10 tools."

One attracts students. The other attracts Figma, Pixar, and Nike.

Here is the formula: [Existing Success] + "but" + [Specific Constraint] = [What's At Stake]

"You're closing $10M deals, but every sales call starts with 'tell me about yourself' because buyers can't Google you. That's 15 minutes per call wasted re-earning credibility."

Not: "Your LinkedIn needs work."

What changed when I fixed this:

Budgets went from $1,500/month → $3000/month

Sales calls went from 45 min convincing → 15 min logistics

Close rate doubled (I stopped creating demand, started capturing it)

The test: Pull up your homepage right now. Do customers think:

A) "I don't have that problem" (failure framing) or
B) "That's exactly my constraint" (success framing)

If it's A, you're leaving money on the table. Sorry for pointing it out... :)

I built an app.

Cost: $770. 
Time: 72 hours. 
Coding skills: Zero. (ok, I had help)

A few of my clients asked: "How can we make creating content easier when I'm on the go?"

Good question. I texted my technical friend: "Help me build this."

His response: "No problem, send me your credit card."

Spent the weekend. We built it. Clients are experimenting with it right now.

My limiting beliefs almost stopped me from doing it. "You're just a writer. Don't waste your time with this."

With a little encouragement from a friend, turned out pretty well.

Everything has to have a business lesson sooo...
