I stopped posting on LinkedIn for 7 years.

Not because I was “too busy.”

Because I was afraid my coworkers would see the real me - what I was thinking, planning, or doing ouside the office.

I was a Marketing Director.
Single mom.
On a “Safe” corporate path.

And I worried:

- My boss would think I was looking for a new job
- My team would judge my content
- People would roll their eyes at my coaching and newsletter work

So I stayed quiet.

I built skills.
I built systems.
I even built income streams.

But I did it silently in the dark.

No posts.
No voice.
No real visibility.

Then one day, I realized that staying silent was costing me more than being seen.

I was coaching creators on showing up online…
while hiding my own story.

So I started small.

→ I shared one post about leaving corporate without burning bridges.
→ I talked about how I built my newsletter and my first $1,000 month.
→ I opened up about deleting 967 subscribers and why it grew my business.

I expected judgment from coworkers.

Here’s what I got instead:

- DMs from colleagues asking how to start a side business
- Old coworkers asking for help with email automation and systems
- Clients who said, “I’ve been reading your posts for months. I’m ready to work with you.”

The fear was so loud it had paralyzed me for 7 years.
But the backlash never came.

Every time I posted:

→ My network got clearer on what I do.

I deleted 967 subscribers on purpose.

It felt scary as hell.

My brain was spiraling: “You worked so hard for these," and "What will my sponsors think?"

But here's the thing.

A dead list hurts your business.

I used to wait a year, then do one huge, painful cut.

Now I do a small one each month.

Here is how I choose who leaves:

→ No opens in 180 days
→ Repeated bounces
→ Spam complaints or clear “not interested”

Before anyone goes, I run a short win‑back campaign:

Email 1: “Still want these emails?”
Email 2: best posts, clear link to stay
Email 3: “Last call”, easy unsubscribe

No click. No reply. They go.

The first time, my stomach hurt.
Now it feels like cleaning my closet.

Uber Has Officially Exited Tanzania. What Really Happened?

After nearly 10 years in Tanzania, Uber shut down its operations on January 30, 2026. No long press conference. No detailed explanation. Just a message to users saying “this chapter comes to an end.”

But chapters don’t end randomly.

Uber entered Tanzania in June 2016, launching in Dar es Salaam and introducing many of us to:

- App-based ride hailing
- Cashless payments
- Dynamic pricing

At the time, it felt revolutionary.

Fast forward to 2026, and the story looks very different.


🇹🇿 Tanzania Is Not an Easy Market

Uber didn’t just face competition.
It faced local reality.

In 2022, Uber suspended operations after new government regulations introduced:

- Fare caps
- Commission limits
- Stronger consumer protection

Uber returned in early 2023, but by then the market had changed.


🥊 Enter the Undisputed Champion: Bolt 

Let’s be honest  Uber didn’t lose to regulation alone.

It lost to Bolt.

In Tanzania, “request Bolt” is no longer a brand reference, it’s a household phrase for ride hailing. Bolt localized faster, priced smarter, and aligned better with both drivers and passengers.

Meanwhile, Uber struggled with:

- The unpopular TZS 3,000 ride cancellation fee
- Pricing that felt rigid to consumers
- A model that didn’t fully adapt to local cost dynamics

In a price-sensitive market, small frictions become big deal-breakers.


📉 A Bigger Lesson for Global Tech Companies

Uber’s exit sends a clear message:

"You don’t just launch in Tanzania. You adapt, localize, and negotiate your way into relevance."

Local competitors understand:

- How people earn
- How people pay
- How people complain
- How regulators think

And that knowledge compounds over time.

What This Means Going Forward

- Tanzania remains open for innovation, but not at any cost
- Regulation here is not anti-tech, it’s pro-balance
- Local and regional platforms are no longer “alternatives” they are default choices

Uber’s exit doesn’t mean ride hailing failed.
It means the market chose its winner.
