Before mental health became a buzzword, we built The Fragile Club. Our mission was to turn mental health awareness into a movement through socially conscious apparel.

We didn't just sell t-shirts. We created a brand that spoke to people's struggles and hopes. Our Ambassador program turned customers into advocates overnight. Why? Because they believed in what we stood for. We leveraged influencers not for their reach, but for their stories. Each collaboration supported our message: it's okay not to be okay.

Partnerships with Mental Health Organizations weren't just for show. We funneled profits into real support systems, creating tangible impact. 

And our social media wasn't about likes. It was a community hub where people felt heard and supported. Sure, we ran targeted FB ads and retargeting campaigns. But our growth came from something deeper - a shared purpose.

Here's what I learned: A compelling mission isn't just good karma, it's good business. We proved you can drive profit while driving change. That's the power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

In the end, The Fragile Club wasn't just a brand. It was a movement. And it showed me that when you align business with purpose, magic happens.

Leave Comfort

Ever wonder how luxury brands tell their stories? That's where Leave Comfort came in.

My husband and I started this content creation agency on a wild idea: quit our jobs, travel the world, and create stunning content for high-end brands. Sounds crazy, right? It was.

We traded our comfortable Vancouver apartment for Bali beaches and Asian metropolises. Our office was anywhere with WiFi. 

Our mission was to transform how luxury brands connect with their audience. We didn't just take pretty pictures. We crafted narratives that made people want experiences they didn't even know existed. 

But why did it work? We provided real value that resorts wanted. We didn't have a social media following at the time, but because our offer was 10x the value any influencer provided, we got the gigs. 

We helped forward-thinking, innovative brands stand out in a saturated market by offering them reports on how to improve and key insights into the experiences their competitors were providing. 

Key takeaway: In the world of content creation, providing more value than your competitors wins every time.

Worked with workforce planning software including Teleopti, Salesforce, and Workday. My role emphasized data analysis, capacity planning, and forecasting. My role also included planning and creating schedule plans for Shopify Retail LA, and other programs and teams across Shopify - mainly focused on the support department.

In this role, I educated entrepreneurs about the world of e-commerce and how to use the platform, including and not limited to product sourcing & supply chain, shipping, fulfillment, inventory, theme customization, domains, social media integration, social media marketing, payment processors, branding, SEO, and company growth.

My first real business. Imagine two twenty-somethings in a tiny apartment. That was me and my husband when we started our first online business selling on Amazon. 

We created a top-tier slackline kit and started learning e-commerce from the ground up. Product design, Chinese manufacturing, international logistics - you name it, we figured it out.
Hustled for a few weeks until we hit Amazon's first page. Started seeing daily sales roll in and felt invincible!

Then one negative review from a competitor ruined the party. Amazon couldn’t do anything about it and our listing tanked. So we pivoted to direct sales and learned the hard way that heavy products and shipping don't mix.

Ultimately sold to a California buyer. Not a huge exit, but the lessons were invaluable.
Graft Sport was my crash course in entrepreneurship. It taught me resilience, problem-solving, and laid the foundation for every business venture that followed.

Key takeaway: Your first business probably won't make you rich, but the experience is priceless. It's all about the long game.

Ever wonder what it's like behind the scenes of a fashion brand? I got a front-row seat interning for Roxanne Nikki, a Vancouver designer with 30 years in the game. This wasn't your typical coffee-fetching internship. I was in the trenches, scissors in hand, cutting everything from faux fur to leather. 

Learned real quick that different fabrics demand different techniques. Prepped fabric bundles for sample sewing. Sounds simple, right? Well, It's an art form. Got my hands on industrial sewing machines and picked up hand-stitching techniques. Basting seams became my new party trick.

But the real gold was sitting in on design and strategy meetings. Watching a seasoned pro navigate the business side of fashion was eye-opening and I ate it up.

Key lesson: Fashion isn't just about beautiful clothes. It's a business, and a tough one at that. This internship taught me the grit required to build something real — a lesson I've carried into every venture since.

Ever have one of those ideas you just can't shake? That was Popup for me 🤔

While running Viceroy Group (an ecommerce portfolio company that scaled to $20M+), I kept running into the same problem - ecommerce platforms were either too simple or way too complex. There wasn't a great middle ground for growing businesses.

So I did what any slightly unhinged entrepreneur would do - I started building a Shopify competitor while running a $20M company 😅

The idea was simple: create an ecommerce platform that could grow with you. Something that was easy to start with but had the power to scale when you needed it.

We ended up raising $3.5M from incredible investors like Accel, Seedcamp, Sequoia, and 20VC. Pretty wild considering I knew nothing about fundraising or the startup world when we started. I remember googling "how to raise money for a startup".

Built an amazing team of 35 people and spent 3 years trying to make it work. We created some really cool tech and had some promising early traction.

Right after I flew back to Vancouver from travelling the world with Leave Comfort, I started a dropshipping store. We put in $1,000, purchased some headphones and launched a store. 

We ended up generating over $10,000 in profit pretty quickly from that store and used that money to start another brand. We continued doing this and within 18 months, we had generated over $16m in revenue and built a portfolio of 7 brands ranging from apparel to supplements to digital products and more.

Later on we took $100k to fund a side project called Popup, an end to end e-commerce platform.

Soon after I transitioned fully onto Popup.

Blocklist was a small side project I was working on while doing Leave Comfort. I really wanted to learn Vue (javascript framework) and build an app so I figured I'd build a link in bio tool that we could use. It got a little bit of traction but I was ultimately too busy with Leave Comfort to focus on growing Blocklist.

No billion-dollar exit here, but hey, I learned VueJS 🙌

Who doesn't want to be an Instagram travel influencer? Me 🙂

My wife and I were getting way too comfortable at our jobs at Shopify so we decided to quit and start a business called "Leave Comfort". The idea was to travel the world and create content, at least that was the initial idea. It had been something we'd always wanted to do and we knew we'd regret not doing it down the line, so we went for it 🚀

We sold everything and bought a one-way ticket to Taiwan where we started our journey. We had no social media presence and no idea what we were doing.

Eventually, we came up with the idea of providing a service to luxury 5-star resorts where we would stay the resort and provide them with a detailed report on our stay, which included things they were doing well, areas in which they could improve along with suggestions and ideas, and a small content package.

It blew up and we were booked back to back. Eventually, the non-stop travel took a toll on us and we started to ask ourselves if this was what we wanted to do for the next 10 years. We were enjoying it but the business was 100% reliant on us being there and the lifestyle was intense.

We eventually decided we were going to focus on something else as we couldn't see ourselves living a nomadic life and travelling for the next 10 years.

This was one of the best experiences of my life. I have zero regrets and now know that I don't like travelling as much as I thought I did.

Graft Sport is how I first got into ecommerce and Amazon FBA. It’s where I learned how to source products overseas, what freight forwarders were and what a fulfillment centre was.

A little over a year after starting Graft Sport the business was acquired.

A couple of weeks after I sold Sidney Auto Detailing I flew to Uganda (East Africa) to start a nutraceutical business focused on developing products related to immune deficiencies - I know 🤦🏻‍♂️ zero relation to washing cars and boats 😅

For context... I had no idea what I was doing.

I learned an incredible amount from starting this business and made an ungodly number of mistakes in the process.

I learned about compliance, contract manufacturing, developing software, building sales teams, and the importance of understanding culture in international business (what works in one place, won't necessarily work in another). 

Funny story (kinda), in the early days one of our products had some visuals on it to help people understand how it supplemented various vitamins and minerals in which they were deficient. Because I thought I knew what I was doing we put a comparison of pork on the packaging which showed how this product supplemented a lot of the vitamins and minerals found in pork 🐖

Little did I know at the time, Uganda has a large population of Muslims. Muslims don't eat pork (not an issue because it's just a comparison) but add on the fact that our products were being distributed throughout the entire country in rural areas where a lot of people are illiterate - and you have a problem.

People would see the picture of pork and think it had pork in it (I don't blame them). To fix this I had to hire someone to get an eraser and rub off the image of pork on thousands upon thousands of products (lesson learned).

This was a crazy experience. The company expanded throughout East Africa and was later acquired by The Aga Khan Development Network. 

Afterwards, I flew back to Vancouver Canada and learned how to code.

Insanity Uganda

When I was living in Uganda I accidentally built the most popular fitness classes in the country.

I was looking for a gym to work out at. Unfortunately at the time, there were no gyms nearby that had actual fitness equipment 🏋️

Then I met a guy named Marvin (the guy in the red circle). He invited me to this group fitness class which, I’ll be honest, wasn’t my cup of tea. The music wasn't great and by the end of the class, hardly anyone was sweating 😰

I figured I could teach a better class...

So I went home, put together 60 minutes of music and built the most intense workout class I could think of.

I figured if people experienced a near-death experience they’d at least remember it and possibly tell others 🥵

I called up Marvin ☎️ and said “Hey, could you ask the gym if they’d be ok with me teaching a class. He asked and they said “sure”.

Keep in mind this is Africa so rules are “loose”. I had never designed or taught a fitness class in my life nor was I a certified trainer by any means.

The next evening I showed up and Marvin was there with 2 other people. It wasn't very comfortable starting the class with 3 people 🤦‍♂️️ but I figured I was at least getting a free workout.

As the class progressed, more and more people started coming into the room and participating. I had designed the class to be so intense that within 10 minutes you’d be having a hard time. Most people could not finish it! 🥵 🥵 ☠️

This added a massive challenge aspect to the class where people would simply come to see how long they could last. 

And that’s where the Uganda Insanity Class was officially formed 🚀💪

The class became so popular that people had to arrive early in order to have a spot in the class, and often people outside were participating through the windows. 

10 years later, Insanity Uganda is still going strong with Marvin leading the charge.
