SEO Surge Summit

Columbus is a small big town.

I'm reminded of that constantly.

Few things energize me more than sitting across from people I genuinely admire and view as successful.

Last week gave me two of those conversations!

Jess Fogal reframed something I already believed but hadn't said this clearly:

The opportunities you create come down to how you make people feel. Not your education. Not your portfolio. Whether people feel better after talking to you. That's what drives referrals, partnerships, and real relationships.

(We also talked life and parenthood and all the things I'm hilariously unprepared for. 😂)

Andrew Panos gave me that line I can't shake:

Less "should haves" and more "oh wells."

As someone who's built incredible things and failed more times than I have (which is saying something), this is firing me up so much.

Fail fast.

Stop dwelling.

Stop sitting on decisions.

Life moves way too fast to be precious about it.

As someone who overthinks plenty, I'm letting that be a positive kind of pressure.

I've (jokingly) said for a long time that I want to create a version of my business where I meet people, podcast, and become genuinely valuable to people a few steps ahead of me.

Weeks like this one tell me I'm getting there!

Website Launch → AMA Columbus

One of our core values at MMG design is to donate our efforts to organizations truly doing good in the world.

This one was close to my heart:

the American Marketing Association Columbus Chapter 💙

Over the past few weeks, we worked closely with the board to nail the look and feel for what we see as a new phase of growth for this chapter.

Our goals were straightforward:

→ Earn trust 
→ Stay on-brand with AMA National
→ Make it easy to register for upcoming events  
→ Feels like it was made by marketers, for marketers

... and that last part mattered most to us! :)

Marketers are my people.

We know what good looks like.

We know when something feels templated, when the messaging is off, when the experience doesn't match the promise.

So the bar was high… as it should be.

We wanted this site to feel uniquely human.

Something that reflects the expertise, energy, and genuine community this chapter brings to Columbus. 😊

I messed up.

Last year, we rebuilt the entire website for Stratford Sign Company, a team in Wisconsin running enterprise-level budgets sign remodel projects.

… and I barely said a word about it.

Not because the work wasn't good.

But because I want MMG to be known for B2B healthcare. Somehow, I convinced myself that sharing non-healthcare work would confuse people or muddy the brand.

That was dumb.

I reconnected on a call with Jake (in this video) last week to share analytics and talk strategy.

Only then, something really hit me:

I sit behind a screen all day and it’s easy to get removed. 
We obsess small things, like layout, load time, button placement. 

It's incredibly easy to forget that the word actually translates into real-life opportunities for the people that we work with 

Those form submissions?

They turn into contracts.
Those contracts turn into payroll. 
That payroll turns into people feeding their families.

That's what a website actually does when it works.

The truth is, we've never only worked in healthcare.

We've built for tech startups like Huckle Insights. 
Health and wellness organizations like Alt Social Club. 

And some of our strongest results have come from taking web expertise into industries where it isn't nearly as common.

That's exactly what happened with Stratford.

These are the things I try and remind myself of when things gets hard. I'm not gonna lie when I said this conversation was certainly the highlight of my day and week. 

This is really why we do it. 😊

3 / Not taking bigger swings with the podcast.

and Brian Ondrako was the one who was able to call me out on it.

Starting this week, Brian is now full-time on his entrepreneurial journey:

Helping founders identify gaps in their own sales process, overcome their own headtrash, and accomplish the things they don’t give themselves the credit for being able to do.

Brian is one of the few people I explicitly endorse.

If 2+ years of interviewing entrepreneurs has taught me anything, it’s that what BUILT your business and what SCALES it are almost never the same thing.

To those close, this doesn’t come as a huge announcement. One of our core values at MMG is that design and human touch is what earns trust. In few places is this as important as it is in healthcare.

The “human” side of the web is going to be vastly more important in the coming years, and as a founder, I’m (quite literally) betting the house on it.

To all of our current + recent clients:

As we continue to work together, I love you, and I’m stoked to continue our shared journey. I believe our healthcare focus will only add more value, and elevate our skillset to meet even higher standards.

A friend and partner of mine Jeffery taught me last year about "raising your floor": saying yes to only the opportunities that can lead to outsized results, and change our way of thinking about growth.

After some of long walks, vulnerable advice-seeking from our agency partners, and a LOT of conversations, this is the flag we’re planting.

None of this happens without our growing team, and the selflessness of those in my circle that are 1-2 steps ahead of me in their journeys who have given me their wisdom.

If I’ve learned anything…

The Columbus community is always opening doors for those with a service and abundance mindset.

There's a lot to build.

📌 If you're in healthcare and in Columbus, I want to hear your story!

In 2025, we launched 18 websites for clients.

Here is exactly what gets us the most consistent results:

(Number 5 you need to start yesterday)

𝟭. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗧𝗔𝘀
It's wild how "aggressive" we sound in our own minds when we make CTAs correctly.
I promise you that visitors aren't thinking this.
Be clear and not clever with buttons.

𝟮. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Everyone's nodding, but most designers and developers STILL aren't doing this.
On most of my client's sites, we average around 60-70% mobile viewership.
Even saying that, it's still hard to comprehend.
We’ve started setting unique styles for each breakpoint on mobile and doing better testing on all devices to make sure there aren't any gaps.

This takes time. But it's worth it.

𝟯. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲.
70% of people do not make it past the fold of your homepage. (HubSpot)
If they don't, they should still know EXACTLY:
→ Who you are
→ What you do
→ Next steps they should take

𝟰. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.
To the RIGHT viewer, words really do mean everything. And they read them.
I've put so much more time into dissecting copy than I used to in the beginning, and the ROI has been there for clients.

𝟱. 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗣.
When you invest in marketing, make sure there are receipts.
My personal favorites: 
→ Google Analytics 
→ Microsoft Clarity 
→ Semrush 
→ Ahrefs

I think that in 2027, we are going to enter a new age in how people interact with websites. And honestly, it's already starting.

A few examples 👇🏻

A healthcare site (OpenHealth) is building me a personalized diagnostic assessment based on what I told it, all in a Chatbot interface.

Another, (Ada Health) is assembling a custom symptom assessment directed specifically at me as the visitor. 

Very soon, websites will assemble themselves based on the visitor.

→ You signal your situation. 
→ The site asks a few clarifying questions. 
→ Then it builds itself based on your inputs.

So if this is the case...

what starts to matter?

As a design strategist who spends their entire day learning from marketers,

here are some thoughts:

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲. 
I don't think the platform your site is built on matters nearly as much as it used to. If marketing can own the site, update it scaleably, and do so without breaking visitors' trust, they hold an advantage over one that is 'pretty' but static. 

Whether it's Webflow, Framer, or independently coded matters much less than it used to.


𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁. 
Every return visit adds context that can personalize the buyer journey even more. Personalization will be everything. 


𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 > 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻.
Especially now, best website build practices are so damn important. Every piece of content needs to be modular, tagged, and organized so an AI can find it, contextualize it, and serve it at the right moment.

Design systems, a well-built CMS, and navigation must be so clear that it's impossible to get lost.


𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹. 
One of our core values at MMG Design is that design = trust. If a website visitor feels less attached to your brand after coming to your website, that is a loss that's hard to recover from.

Their experience should be something they remember, and want to return to.

I learned recently that 95 PERCENT of business AI implementations fail.
