How’d I land this internship?

In 2022, my wife and I moved across the country from Provo, Utah to Raleigh, North Carolina. 

I got active on LinkedIn
- started growing my network 
- posted about jobs, tagged TeamWork

Davis Filippell, President of TeamWork Online, sent me a connection request and we exchanged some messages.

1 month later, Davis flew to Charlotte for the Sports Marketing Association Conference. 

He offered to meet at 8am.

I said yes!

I woke up at 5am and drove 3 hours from Raleigh to Charlotte.

You might think I’m crazy 

But those of you that know Davis know that it was worth every minute.

He’s energetic, insightful, and motivating.

I left that meeting inspired 

And with an internship offer 😉

I never played soccer.

I worked in the NWSL in gameday operations for the NC Courage. It helped me land my job at TeamWork Online.

Because the experience built my resume.

There’s hundreds of open jobs in Minor League Baseball, in the American Hockey League, in the National Women’s Soccer League, and so many more!

It’s good to have a favorite sport.

Learning the process to become an auto body estimator by interacting with customers. Assisting with any incoming vehicles that are needed repairs with writing the estimate. Keeping customers up to date with where their vehicle is at in the process of the repairs. While coordinating where the cars need to be at such as in body, sublet, or paint. Helping out the office by checking in vehicles with customers to make sure everyone is on the same page with repairs.

Cleaning the shop in the morning by taking out trash and keeping up sweeping floors. Detailing customers car when repairs are fully done. To help bring the car back to pre-accident condition. Assisting the shop in running errands by taking cars to proper sublet shops and giving rides for customers.

Coaching high school boys around the ages of 15-18 at the junior varsity level. Refining their soccer skills to help them make the step to varsity soccer. Teaching the values of becoming better person for when they leave the program. While stressing that they are student athletes, not athlete students.

Tesla

Unloading brand new Tesla's off the truck and getting them into process. Washing and cleaning the cars out to make sure new Tesla car are show room ready for when the customer picks up. This includes washing the outside, vacuuming the interior, wiping done panels and correcting imperfections from factory paint.

Scheels

My beginning days at Scheels was help get the store ready for opening. The crew spent months of building stands, clothing racks, and much more needed items though the store. While construction was going on the leaders of the store was getting each department ready with training (3-4 times a week) with the department we were hired in. 
Once store was open, the goal was to make all customers feel welcome. In footwear we were tasked with making sure we were getting customers into the correct shoes for their needs. To assist customers feet, I was taught how to look at someone gate analysis for pronation and supination. Also including how high or low their arch was at.

National Beverage Management

During the tail end of the pandemic, I was hired on to help bring Anheuser-Bush beer lines back to drinking standards. Went into restaurants, bars, and hotels to clean the beer lines that served Anheuser-Bush. Running solution though lines and cleaning the pour handles to have that clean presentation. While also suggesting new beers and promoting Anheuser-Bush.

Gold's Gym

Welcoming every customer walking and making sure they have a membership before they enter. Encouraging new and customers with their trail almost done to sign up with Golds Gym. Making customers refreshing protein shake after their workout. Cleaning and maintaining the gym to keep gym up to customer standards.

ABRA Auto Body & Glass

Cleaning customer cars when they are fully built and ready to go home. Maintaining the shop cleanliness by sweeping and taking out trash. While at busy times in the day I would assist in helping the parts department check in parts and invoice. Making sure parts are matching what we order, and the part number are also the same that is on the invoice.

Sales Associate insure customer service is high, set up displays, count inventory in store and help process transactions in the store. Specialized in the footwear depart.

Cleaning customers after their cars were compete from the repairs. Would help shop by cleaning around the office and the shop. I would with the paint department with prepping auto body panels for the paint booth. I was working here during my summers and winter breaks from school.

Hello, my name Cory
 
 Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality from University of Northern Colorado (2019).
Also Graduate with Associates in Liberal Arts from Northeastern Junior College (2015), with two years of varsity soccer.

From Johnstown, CO with a passion of being able to be a part of sports and creating a positive atmosphere. 

Currently a Customer Service Consultant, where my day to day is making sure customers are taken care of with updates, while furthering my education for estimating. Also currently coaching at the high school level, currently the junior varsity coach. Previously was working at Scheels as a sales associate in the footwear department, helping customers get into the correct shoes. 

I'm currently working my way into a sports industry profession. That would allow for me to be around sports minded personal and a winning culture. 

In my free time I do watch Denver sports teams when they are on, while spending time with my wife and dog, and playing soccer when I can.
