3:00am. Manila airport.
And I just wrote a $10M plan for someone I met in a business class line.

Here’s how it happened.

On my way to Bali, I ended up next to a woman with the same nickname I used to have.
We start chatting.

Then she drops this casually:
She and her family lived in Bahrain… and she retired at 45.

That got my full attention.

Bali has a way of reminding you what the world is starving for: presence.

This week made the AI gap impossible to ignore.

Not the gap between “AI can help” and “AI can’t.”

The gap between public perception and what the newest models already do.

On Feb 5, 2026, two releases marked a turning point: GPT-5.3 Codex and Opus 4.6.

According to AI founder Matt Shumer as shared by Roger Hamilton, AI went from “helpful tool” to “does the job better than humans” for software development-and he now describes what he wants in plain English, walks away, and returns to finished work that outperforms what he would’ve built himself.

That’s not a forecast. That’s a field report.

Daniel Priestley points to a 180-year infrastructure pattern:

When a new infrastructure wave hits ~5% of GDP, markets crash with 70–90% value destruction. Railways, electricity, telecom-no exceptions.

AI is projected to hit 5% of GDP in 2029.

Here’s the fatal difference:
Railways, grids, and fiber became long-life assets.
AI infrastructure becomes obsolete in 2–3 years.

So we’re staring at a paradox:

Unprecedented creative and operational power right before a likely economic reset that will punish fragile companies.

That’s the line in the sand for entrepreneurs.

The winners won’t be the people “using AI for content.”

They’ll be the ones building AI-native organizations, where intelligence is embedded into how work moves, decisions get made, and execution compounds.

Somewhere in the world, there’s a quiet sunrise happening.

I’m in Bali right now with a room full of people who genuinely believe impact is a choice-not a brand slogan. The kind of people building companies, communities, and systems that reduce suffering, expand opportunity, and leave things better than they found them.

Every infrastructure revolution that hits ~5% of GDP crashes with 70–90% value destruction. No exceptions.

Examples included:

Electricity (1920s): 4.2% of GDP → 88% crash

Telecom (1990s): 4.9% of GDP → NASDAQ fell 78%

Rail cycles and bankruptcies as capital floods in
AI’s spending trajectory:

2024: $241B (0.83% GDP)

2026: $600B (1.9% GDP)

2028: ~$1.3T (3.8% GDP)

2029: ~$1.75T (5% GDP) ← threshold

But the article highlights a fatal difference:

Rail, grids, and fiber became long-life assets.

AI infrastructure becomes obsolete in 2–3 years.

That breaks the historical “build once, then enjoy the dividend” recovery model. It creates what the article calls a permanent “tax” just to stay current.

Meaning: the crash (if it comes) isn’t “AI failed.”

It’s “the financing model refused to keep paying.”

If you assume a 2029 reset is plausible, what would you change in 2026–2027: hiring, capital allocation, product roadmap, or how you measure productivity?

Four years ago I started treating recovery like a system:

Cold swim - resilience + nervous system training

Sunrise / sunset / sleep + ketosis - predictable inputs, predictable output
