I played Rugby League for 16 years, with the dream of eventually making it as a pro.

But that dream died a tragic death.

So I proceeded to have a bit of an identity crisis and felt fairly lost on this spinning rock.

Then in 2019, I stumbled across writing, more specifically, copywriting. It was pretty much love at first sight.

So I decided to go all in on writing online whilst being a bit of a nomad (I eventually ended up living in southern Spain).

Since then, I've written for 60+ business owners, with the aim of helping them: 

• Attract top talent.
• Book more meetings.
• Increase brand awareness.
• Stand out from competition.
• Gain more newsletter subscribers.

Now, I work at one of the UK's leading Personal Branding agencies.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'personal branding' a lot. I'm sure it probably makes you want to curl up into a ball and cringe your little noggin' off.

Building your brand as a professional in this day and age is pretty bloody crucial.

Why? Well...

At the time, everything had kind of fallen apart.

I’d just quit my job, come out of a long-term relationship, stopped playing rugby after 16 years, and had recently lost my mum.

Safe to say, I was pretty lost. 

I had literally no idea what I wanted to do with my life. 

Didn’t think I had many skills. Didn’t try in school. Didn’t go to uni. No real career plan or clear direction.

But a couple of weeks earlier, I stumbled across a video of someone (a blogger or someone like that) travelling the world and working from their laptop.

At the time, that felt like a genuinely impossible concept. But it also looked cool as fuck. 

“You can make money and work from anywhere in the world? Wtf??” I asked.

So I thought I’d give it a go.

I took what little money I had left from my last payslips, got in my banged-up Renault Clio, and started driving around Europe trying to make this “digital nomad” thing work.

I tried all sorts of online businesses and remote jobs. Most of them failed miserably.

But writing was sort of the one common thread, and the thing I kept coming back to.

Then covid hit, and I got stuck in Poland for a couple of months. For me, that lockdown was a period where I could just be completely alone and sharpen my skills. 

When lockdown lifted, I made my way to Spain.

I learned the language, met my now partner, and ended up staying here far longer than I ever planned.

All in all, I messed up more times than I’d like to admit.

I constantly questioned whether I’d made my life better or worse. For a long time, I genuinely wasn’t sure.

I’m still not perfect now.

But I’m much happier than I was back then, that's for sure.

6 years from this photo, I work remotely, writing for people I’d have never imagined even speaking to at that point in my life.

I’m not trying to brag or be cringe here.

But if you’re in a similar place right now, and there’s something that excites you but also scares the life out of you (even if it feels like a completely foreign concept), just give it a go this year.

I wasn’t sure I’d made the right decision for a good few years.

Looking back now, I’m so glad I did.

Boomplay

Boomplay is a quality oriented media/entertainment agency that engaged in a media project to reach out to outstanding creatives in the Nigerian Space.
They did this by launching the Boomplay "Pass The Mic" Cypher project from June to August, 2022.

After several round of competitions, eliminations and interviews, I qualified as part of the Top 5 in Nigeria, which enabled me to be part of a Recording project with MI-Abaga (The Guy), courtesy of Boomplay and TASCK (a media and entertainment Agency).
This recording deal enabled me to earn royalties from the work, and be a part owner of the project, which is a huge step forward in giving creatives more opportunities to blossom.

I also enjoy the privilege of being a Boomplay Nigeria Ambassador, as a music creative

Punch Line Live 1

Punchline Live is a dynamic music show put together by Punchline, a multi-faceted artist in Lagos State Nigeria. 
During the show which took place in October, 2022, Several artists all across the Southwest came together to celebrate good music and Afro pop.

I was privileged to be the Vocal Director & Deputy Music Director for this amazing event, and we prepared for about two months, while I kept shuffling my movements between Lagos and Ibadan during that time.

One of the highlights of this event was that Cobhams Asuquo, who had not had any prior rehearsal with us, was coming to perform, and Cobhams has a certain quality for music that is top notch (Understandably so).
I had to pick the team of vocalists that would join me to back up for him, and there was a small concern that he might not be impressed and he would decide to solo the song.
Regardless, I taught the parts, picked the singers, we prepped, and when Cobhams came around for the sound check and we joined him to sing the song, the first thing he said afterwards was
" You guys are amazing; let's do this"....

and as you can tell, that was so much validation for me and the team. Beautiful memories.
