How AI (Claude) + MCP + Braze Catalogues got us to ~85% process improvement?

The thing is: you need to think in systems and how to make processes more efficient. You need data, automation and AI working together so decisions and execution compound instead of resetting each time. Music to my ears!

When we enabled Catalogues in Braze, we automated our newsletter process. And as a cherry on top, we now get the monthly reporting via Claude through the Braze MCP connection. 

👉 The result: better structure, less manual noise, faster execution, and an AI layer that compounds instead of creating more complexity.

Before
- We run 3 newsletters weekly.
- Work was split across three disciplines: copy, design, CRM.
- ~75 minutes end-to-end per newsletter.
- Content built in Google Sheets.
- Email staging in Braze.
- Manual segmentation, links, images, QA.
- Reporting was fully manual, ~90 minutes per month across all newsletters.

After
- Still 3 newsletters.
- Still split across the same disciplines.
- Newsletter setup now takes ~10 minutes per newsletter (~7.5× faster!).
- Links, images and content dynamically pulled via content blocks and catalogues.

From 3333 followers to almost 3800 in a week.
That’s ~11–14% growth.

And no.
It’s not because I randomly posted here and there.
It’s not because I showed up only when I felt like it.
It’s not because I suddenly started writing about random stuff.
It happened because I kept showing up for the work I care about.

-> Even on the days when I’m tired, busy, or uninspired and posting would be the easiest thing to skip. That consistency compounds. Always.

💌 Last week, Justin, a peer of mine in Australia, shared a list of people to follow in CRM and lifecycle. My name was on it. I am so proud. Because that’s earned acknowledgment. You get it from trust built over time. Not in an instant. Not fast. Not from occasionally showing up.

And this is exactly how I think about retention and CRM too. Relationships, compound effect, earned trust!

You don’t build trust with one clever campaign.
You build it by showing up, again and again, doing what you said you’d do.
Community, credibility, loyalty, it’s all the same.

If you only post when you have an announcement (one-way communication!), you’re missing the point (and massive opportunities!!).

This is your sign to start posting (within the area you want to position yourself in:

- What you learned this week
- What you’re solving right now
- What patterns you’re noticing
- What decisions you’re questioning
- What you changed your mind about

But knowing that you’ll need to show up even when you’re not inspired, not in the mood, not cheered on, not recognized.

And remembering that when you’re building in quiet, you’re building momentum. Trusting yourself as the only motivation. Discipline as the motor that pushes you in those daily moments.

I finally visited Lake Como and honestly don't understand the hype
- Our car almost got robbed - police called
- Town felt dirty
- Tourists everywhere
- Stressed restaurant owners
- Mediocre touristy food

I was like, what is the fuss? But then I remembered: it's all in the eyes of the beholder. The timing. The situation. You can watch the same movie, listen to the same speech, do exactly the same thing as someone else (even, YOU from the past can do exactly the same thing now) and have a totally different experience. (Speaking of lakes: Lake Garda was much more my taste - same trip, completely different vibe).

Bc LIFE IS NOT LINEAR.
Which means lifecycle marketing isn’t linear either.

Whenever I say this, analytics and experimentation folks get nervous. How will we ever prove what’s working? And why are we still testing as if journeys are static?

Autonomous optimization > static A/B testing.

Static testing: set up, wait, declare winner, roll out to everyone.
Using built-in mechanisms like winning variant testing, intelligent channel selection, and dynamic content optimization already test while optimizing. Real-time. Per user.

But what about...?

1. Autonomous systems optimize for the wrong thing. 
-> What are your conversion metrics - vanity of clicks and opens, or actual real conversions like retention, revenue, LTV? Think of what actually matters to measure.

2. You don't know WHY something works
-> Was it the timing, the emoji, or seasonality that pushed the volume? You declare Variant B as a winner and you'll never really know why. It's a valid guess.

3. If something shifts in behavior and I miss it
-> That's why you always need holdout groups to help determine those big shifts. You're monitoring those, not just leave it and forgetting about it.

4. Static tests feed the system with good data
-> The system should already be feeding with good data. Every send is a learning. Big bets = static test, but on the tactical level, micro-tests that are always on are the way to go.

5. You can't optimize without experiments
-> You ARE experimenting all the time - just that it’s live and not in batches. Traditional: test A vs B for 2 weeks, pick winner, apply to everyone. Autonomous: test in every interaction, running multiple micro-experiments simultaneously.

6. It's hard to prove what's working
-> You're not proving every micro-decision. You prove that the approach works. Holdout groups tell you: is autonomous optimization have an uplift vs. control?

->> This also means letting go of that control like not knowing why User A got email at 3pm and User B got push at 9am. You need to trust the system. 

Static tests are a moment in time. Always-on tests are much closer to reflecting that human non-linear path. And we've got so much more learning to do there.
