People love to say “don't bring politics into work!” As if I could leave my Black womanhood in the parking lot and pick it up after 5 PM. 

I didn't choose to bring politics into my work. Politics showed up in my rates, my resume, my dress code, and my safety. For many of us, our entire careers have been political. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Not by choice, but by design. 

As someone who’s spent years code-switching, trying to blend in, and making myself more palatable, I don’t always get to separate the personal from the professional. Many of us don't get to be “just” entrepreneurs or “just” leaders. We're constantly navigating systems that demand we prove we belong. 

So when someone says “Keep politics out of it,” all I hear is: “Stop making me uncomfortable by reminding me that the system isn’t neutral.”

My work is political because my existence is political. And pretending otherwise isn't professionalism. It's erasure.

Everything corporate tried to "fix" about me is now how I make money.

I spent years trying to change the things my managers flagged in performance reviews. I was too quiet. Then I was too direct. I couldn't pick a lane. I didn't speak up enough about my goals. Or I was (gasp!) too bold. 🫠

Honestly, some of the feedback was helpful. I did need to get better at articulating my impact and advocating for myself. But some of it had nothing to do with me. My personality just didn't match the template, or my working style made someone uncomfortable.

The hardest skill I've had to learn is how to tell the difference between "I need to grow" and "I need to go." Those are two very different problems. And confusing them can cost you years and a lot of joy.

But now:

• Too direct → "refreshingly honest"
• Couldn't pick a lane → multipassionate, with multiple income streams
• Too quiet → I listen, observe, and hear what people aren't saying

These weren't flaws. I just hadn't found the right environment yet.

KIPP NYC

- Collaborate with key stakeholders including Data, Operations, and College Success to execute comprehensive career integration program strategies, while creating systems and tools to monitor progress for all partner career program offerings geared towards 2000+ college alumni
- Pioneered the Micro Outreach targeted recruitment strategy via designing All Programs Micro Outreach Recruitment Data Tracker to align recruitment and communication plans with our partners’ goals and evaluating our progress in promoting increased alumni engagement with career  programming across partners like Braven, Mentor Collective, FirstGenU (FGU), as well as for the Early Career Bain research study 
- Drove KIPP alumni to achieve the highest FGU program completion rates among partners in Fall 2023 through the Micro Outreach strategy; exactly 50% of KIPP alumni completed FGU by finishing one pathway 
- Co-manage the biweekly Career Newsletter, leading cross functional collaboration with the Writer, Marketing Associate. Publication includes entry/mid-senior level roles, featuring partner resources (Talk Hiring and Wizco) for 3000+ alumni
- Provided career consultation for College Advisors, preparing them for mid-level career transitions in higher ed and cross-industries. This includes: development of career guides, resumes and cover letters, ethical leveraging of AI, and identifying aligned industries and roles 
- Co-developed the College Success Advisor Resource Guide
- Collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Career Services to plan and execute PD, info, and training sessions for College Success Advisors, Associate Directors, and alumni, while co-evaluating program design for initiatives like Wayfinders
- Co-constructed the Wayfinders Recruitment Toolkit to guide College Success Advisors in  increasing advisee engagement towards participating in our Wayfinders Program workshops (Career Assessment Deep Dives, Resume and LinkedIn, and Networking) for college sophomores

- Successfully initiated and recruited new partnership with iMentor, a 4.7 million budget nonprofit, to host FLIA fellows that will aid the org in recruiting 1500+ mentors
- Facilitating the iMentor partnership provided the largest cost-share funding to FLIA, $6750, out of all 8 new Summer 2023 partner organization proposals approved by the Board
- Collaborating cross functionally with key stakeholders across the social sector industry in order to ensure the programmatic and financial stability of an organizations with the missions to continue providing 3-month long paid fellowship opportunities to marginalized adults 
- Co-executed Trivia Night fundraiser alongside the Board Chair, Board Members, and Executive Director, successfully surpassing goal of raising $2575 and exceeding our #100SupportersChallenge through marketing the silent auctioning of ~10 in-kind donations items on social media from Playwrite’s Horizon, New York Red Bulls, etc., ticket sales of nearly 60 donors in attendance, and P2P donations

- Empowered college students and first-generation/low-income partnership (FLIP) chapters at Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and Virginia Common Wealth University in collaborating with their institutions to address food insecurity and homelessness, initiating their own lending libraries to provide free textbook and laptop loans to F/LI students, and implementing mental health support groups.

Chapter Establishment and Development Fellow

- Developed and refined the new curriculum/handbook for Stand Up to College  program later successfully implemented by the nonprofit for junior and participants
- Designed/co-facilitated bilingual college/financial aid workshops for families at Mercy Center and Fiver, in partnership with Familia Adelante

College Access Fellow

As a fellow through Future Leaders in Action, I have been revamping and developing a Stand Up to College curriculum, program, and handbook at our Fiver partner site. In order to not reinvent the college access wheel that has already existed at the nonprofit, I have been integrating up-to-date research on college access and success. The purpose of this handbook is to approach college access from a social justice lens in order to build a multi-year manual and program for the future college advisor to implement. More importantly, the handbook is informed by my 1-1 advising and heart-to-heart sessions with participants. Despite my short tenure, the bond that I have formed with participants is the substance behind the revamping of this program, and ultimately what I will leave behind as a sustainable and proactive legacy to approaching college access and success.

FLIA College Access Fellow

Coalition of Latinx Scholars at Teachers College

Liaisoned between CLS and a number of organizations within Columbia University, Teachers College. Within our horizontally governed organization, we are all co-organizers of the Welcome Back Potluck, Expresiones, Latinx Unity Dinner, 16th Annual EnVisions Conference, and the First-Generation Graduation Ceremony. We mobilize to promote group dialogues on Latinidad within graduate school. Tasks include hosting panelists and keynotes speakers, developing budgets, applying for grants from a number of offices, and mobilizing different communities to attend and access the resources we make available. 

- Won award for Best Executed Medium Scale Event for “Post-Hurricane Maria: El Pueblo Unido will never be Defeated” where we sponsored a panel of influentials activists and scholars from Puerto Rico and the US 
- Co-headed the committee designated to develop the 16th Annual Envisions Conference at Columbia, organized to provide grad school resources – a grad fair, resume editing 1-1’s, etc. –  to over 30+ PoC undergrad NYC students 
- Organized and co-sponsored the First Gen Graduation Ceremony with the Office of Diversity and Community; 150+ people in attendance
- Developed grant proposals and won competitive institutional grants of more than $6000+ to fund community initiatives and large scale events ranging from 20-100+ students, faculty members, and staff in attendance
- Presented at the panel “Keep Getting that Knowledge! Turn your Passions into Graduate Degrees” at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in to recruit CUNY students for the Envisions Graduate School Conference

Community Outreach Board Member 

Project LETS, Inc.

- Co-founded the new chapter of Project LETS for Columbia graduate students
- Trained as a Peer Mental Health Advocate (PMHA)/peer-counselor coordinator based on Certified Peer Recovery Specialist curricula and Intentional Peer Support.
- Certified to train prospective peer counselors.
- Co-organized the October 2018 PMHA Cohort accelerated online training including groups of students from Cornell, Columbia undergrad, Barnard College, Columbia graduate school, and Adelphi University, as well as individual volunteers who plan to be advocates through the national organization.

Peer Mental Health Advocate Coordinator; Peer Counselor

I am a senior college and career success coach, facilitator, and research scholar. I've worked to leverage data and strategic partnerships across key stakeholders to propel 500+ FG/LI and BIPOC students into their academic/career pathways over 6 years. Hailing as a first-gen South Bronx native, I obtained my MA in Anthropology and Education at Columbia University, Teachers College; my master's thesis explored the healing practices employed by WoC support spaces and social movements in NYC. I also completed my BS in Human Development, with minors in Inequality Studies, Latinx Studies, English, and Education at Cornell University, College of Human Ecology. Currently, I sit on two nonprofit boards for iMentor and Future Leaders in Action, and am the Manager of Undergraduate Career Services at KIPP Forward.

For nearly 2 years as a Career Success Manager at Project Basta, I coached 100+ Fellows and achieved ~83% of full time hires securing offers in under 6 months (avg salary $71000), with 56 hired full-time & 44 internship hires at companies like Microsoft, Snap Inc., Dell, and Bloomberg. As a Senior College Advisor at Bottom Line, I co-led the Affirming Student Identities Committee and the Healing Spaces pilot initiative, and exceeded critical performance goals in student satisfaction, engagement, financial aid, and employability milestones. While advising 90+ college students via the Degree, Employability, Affordability, Life curriculum, I achieved 100% advisee satisfaction rate for FY 21; 92% caseload re-enrolled for Fall 2020; 90% caseload financial balances paid in full for Spring 2021; 93% caseload FAFSA completion. Outside of advising, you can find my editorials on HuffPost and Bold Latina.

As a McNair Research Scholar with Cornell and Columbia faculty across Human Development and Anthropology, I researched mitigating gender discrimination in the workplace, police “shoot-don’t-shoot” interventions, Ithaca public pedagogy, and the impact of sense of purpose and positive racial/ethnic identification. I also worked as a bilingual RA theorizing the role of public schools and communities as decolonizing entities post Hurricane Maria.

Currently, I co-facilitate Who Heals the Healers on topics like grief, leveraging my experiences facilitating at universities through the Cornell Intergroup Dialogue Project and Columbia Women of Color Collective, and identity affinity spaces for non-profit staff. I am also collaborating with my Columbia faculty advisor at Three Thousand Moons planning career advising and financial literacy workshops for street artists.
