Senior SEO wanted

it drives me crazy when marketers still say:

- SEO is dead because of ChatGPT
or
- AI search is just a trend
- We'll worry about LLMs later 🫠 

I have spent 4 years in SEO, and this niche has changed a LOT.
a. But it's not dead
b. AI is here to stay

(can't imagine how much SEO changed for those seniors who have been in this sector for +15 years)

Here's what I mean:

- Traditional search still drives revenue. But AI search is already influencing what your potential clients buy. The trend will only speed up.

- By 2028, LLM-generated traffic will surpass traditional search engine traffic. You need to get ready for the switch. 

- Going multi-channel is no longer an option: Reddit, SEO, YouTube, LinkedIn.
They all matter now. 

If your brand isn't showing up in those AI answers, your business will feel the revenue difference pretty soon. 

How can you react? 

- Start tracking AI answers and brand citations. I use Rankshift to track this.

It captures AI responses directly from the UI, not API outputs. 

That means you get the real answer your prospects are actually seeing.

It lets me monitor prompts across all major LLMs and shows:

- Which AI queries cite your brand
- Where competitors appear instead of you
- Which channels AI trusts in your niche (Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia...)

How to win AI Search in 2026

I just joined a new company.
I second-guess every deliverable before I send it.
I don't know all the processes yet.
I wonder if I'm moving fast enough.

Classic new hire anxiety, right? 

Trying to prove yourself.
While figuring everything out.

That is me in the last 6 weeks.

But last week?

I submitted my 1st A-to-Z SEO client strategy.

And this happened in our Slack channel:

Jules Davies shouted me out to the entire team.

Elena Dyulgerova, didn't have to say that. But she did. 

And that kind of generosity from a super-experienced teammate changes everything.

I didn't know how to respond.
So I sent a crying dog GIF. 😂 

This reminded me that the right environment celebrates achievements out loud.

Without being asked.

A few years back, I worked in places where good work disappeared into silence.

Scalerrs is not that place.

🛼 What's the best piece of recognition you've ever received at work?

I've interviewed 4 founders in the past month.

My take: They don't know how AI SEO works. 

So here's a quick overview: 

1. Traditional SEO = optimizing for single queries

You create content for "best CRM for startups."

Google matches pages to that exact phrase.

Ranking is all about on-page, content, and backlinks.


2. AI Search (Claude, Perplexity,...) = handling conversations

These tools tackle multi-layered, complex queries.

One prompt often includes several embedded questions.

The engine runs multiple searches across different angles simultaneously.

Then summarizes all those micro-results into one answer.


3. This changes everything for a business's SEO approach

You are no longer just optimizing for a SPOT on the SERP.

Now you also get: 

- Cited and linked to in AI answers.
- Included in LLM training data and summarized outputs.
- And also dealing with Google’s crowded SERP.


4. The new SEO playbook:

- Create content across multiple formats (Reddit, YouTube, etc.) to get more SERP estate on Google

- Create content that dives DEEP into specifics of your product that might be retrieved later in AI answers 

The AI needs the info in the first place to be able to answer long tail searches, so give it to them in your OWN content.

- Build brand mentions: 

Comes from omni-channel approach, as there is a strong correlation with brand search and rankings 

(Like there always has been anyway…)

- Continue to DOUBLE down on traditional SEO:

Because there’s a high correlation between traditional SEO and AI search, as LLMs pull data from the SERPs directly.

Don’t forget Bing and ChatGPT are financially tied together.

- Focus on structured data to ease the understanding of content for easy surfacing of ideas.

- Add data and facts for LLMs to be able to trust you better (Remember, LLMs fear getting answers wrong, so adding data incentivises them to cite you)

Most marketers still don't get how important LLM SEO is. 

The rules changed in the last 2 years. 

Here's what's actually working right now, pulled straight from our A to Z guide:

1. Know where LLMs actually pull from

Profound analyzed 30M+ citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. 

This is what they found you: 

- ChatGPT pulls from Wikipedia, Forbes, and Reddit.
- Perplexity favors Reddit, YouTube, and TripAdvisor. 
- Google AI Overviews surfaces Reddit, Quora, LinkedIn, and YouTube. 

If you're only optimizing your blog, you're already behind.

2. Reddit matters

Reddit is ranking higher than most blogs, and it's actively training LLMs. 

- Find threads already ranking for your bottom-of-funnel keywords. 
- Seed organic, UGC-style comments that make your brand feel like the natural top choice. 

Treat it like a long game.

3. YouTube is an SEO asset

It's "just" the 2nd-largest search engine and a direct source for ChatGPT and other AI tools to pull answers from. 

LLMs use transcripts, so include your target keywords naturally in your script.

Add timestamps and closed captions. AI loves structure.

4. Write like you're training an AI

LLMs extract answers. So you must structure your content with: 

- Entity-based formatting (What, Why, How)
- Keep each section short and self-contained
- Link to expert sources
- Real author bios with credentials
- Use schema (super easy to do that with Claude)

Format for copy-paste answers: lists, numbered how-tos, clear subheaders, summary boxes. 

These increase your chances of being cited.

5. Start tracking AI visibility now

Most LLM clicks won't show up in traditional SEO tools. Add Perplexity and ChatGPT as referral filters in Google Analytics. 

Use Ahrefs' AI Overviews tracker (still in beta). 

Track brand mentions across Reddit and YouTube. 

The window to get ahead of this is still open. 
But it won't be for long.

It drives me crazy when I look at a SaaS company's marketing stack.
Great product, and real budget, BUT:

- No Idea of the Reddit sentiment
- No YouTube strategy
- No idea of LLM citations

Just a well-optimized blog often packed with useless articles.

Spoiler: Those articles won’t generate many leads or AI citations. 

Here's what that means for your business:

1. By 2028, LLM-generated traffic could pass traditional search. 

2. For B2B SaaS, where buying cycles are long and trust is everything, this shift will hit revenue before most CMOs see it coming.

3. Going multi-channel is a must: Reddit, SEO, YouTube, LinkedIn.

So how do you react before it costs you A LOT?

Start by measuring what you can't currently see with Semrush One.

It shows you:

- Which AI queries mention your brand (and which don't)
- Where competitors are being cited instead of you
- Which content gaps are hurting your AI visibility right now
- How your share of voice in AI answers changes over time

AI search has already changed how your buyers make decisions.

Now you need to change your marketing strategy.
