Flying solo with piles of video gear used to feel intimidating — not anymore. I’ve been lugging cameras and lighting around for two decades, but when it’s work, it hits different.

Agency life changes you.

A year ago, I would’ve panicked at a client cutting their retainer.

Today? I see it as part of the game.

MRR has plateaued a bit while projects keep rolling in—great for cash flow, not so great for scale. 

And this week, one of our highest-paying clients trimmed their spend. Not because of performance—but market shifts.

I didn’t take it personally. I saw it coming and started adjusting months ago.

That’s why growing recurring revenue has been my main focus for Chasing Creative.

My dad turned 60 today.

I've learned a lot from him. And he’s still teaching me things every day.

Here are a few lessons from him that have stuck with me:

1. The partner you choose and the friends you keep are the most important decisions you’ll ever make.

2. Never tell other people how to live their lives, just focus on making the best of yours.

3. Things have a way of working out for the best, so don’t waste time worrying.

4. Silence will teach you a lot more than talking will. 

5. Treat everyone with kindness, you never know when your paths will cross again.

These lessons might sound simple, and maybe you’ve heard them before, 
but I’m grateful that I got to watch him lead by example.

In the 33 years I’ve known him, he’s been the most patient, loving, and kind person I’ve ever met.

Just because everyone around you is trying to 10x their business doesn’t mean you have to make that your goal.

Build something that supports the life you want.

Not the life you’re expected to live.

How?

Write down what your perfect year looks like.

Then use AI to calculate what it costs.

Do you need a $10M salary to achieve it?

Probably not.

So what are you really building for?

Freedom? Or validation?

We get way too caught up in what we think we NEED to do.

Focus on living a life that you won’t regret instead.

Something huge has been missing in my life.

I’m tired of letting that happen.

Don’t wait for free time to make something that brings you joy.

As much as you can, build your life around joy instead.

Make every moment count.

First of all, I’m tired of the narrative that going viral is the best thing your content can do.

We’ve helped clients go viral.

Did their website traffic spike? Sure.

Did they hit a record sales month? No.

Most teams keep chasing virality like it’s the shortcut to revenue.

Going viral isn’t the goal. Especially in B2B.

The goal is to be the brand that keeps popping up and answering all the questions your audience has in their head.
The type that makes them go, “How did they know I needed this?”

70% of your prospects will watch at least 3 videos before they ever talk to your sales team.

That means you need to create content your best-fit customers actually care about.

Content that answers their questions about pricing, process, and value, removes every objection, and builds trust before a sales call ever happens.

Video content builds deeper connections.

Educational video content builds trust.

And trust is the thing that actually converts.

Which is precisely why live streams, podcasts, and webinars convert so well. 

Because we end up buying from people we know, like, and trust.

Your content doesn't need to be shorter.

It just needs to be better. Hear me out: 

People don’t hate long-form content. They hate having their time wasted.

There's a ton of evidence for this. 

I mean, look at podcasts. They're getting longer while their engagement stands unaffected (average listen time, 30-40 mins). 

Netflix literally has to shame many of us with the “are you still watching?” button.

Now, I'm not saying you have to start a podcast.

(In fact, I beg you not to).

But I am saying, if you're planning on making longer pieces of content, make sure it's actually valuable from start to finish.

Most long-form today says a whole lot of nothing, and then is sliced into bite-sized, itty-bitty chunks of smaller nothing.

(But hey, at least you got AI to repurpose it, right?)

Don't even get me started on that 😂.

Point is, you need long-form content that makes people say,

“I can’t believe I’m learning all this for free.”

The only way to do that is to actually understand what they care about. Then actually have a plan for what you want to communicate.

Before you hit record on your next longer piece of content ask yourself three questions:

1. Does I feel like I'm giving away the secret sauce? (If yes, good. That means it's valuable).
