In television and entertainment, we fully accept that actors step into roles that aren’t truly theirs. With costumes, makeup, and props, they become the character we’re eager to cast.

But while those costumes come off at the end of the day in entertainment, in business we often forget to take them off — and slowly begin believing the character is who we really are.

REAL AUTHENTICITY ISN'T A PERSONALITY TRAIT THAT YOU WEAR OR SPRAY ON.

There had to be a better way. I wanted to live in opulence and abundance. Whilst other kids wagged from school, I wagged from home. I spent my weekends at the beach. I searched for ways to stay away from home for as long as possible. I would leave early in the morning and return before it became dark.

It was on these long days I stumbled across the principles of value-adding. I started organising events at high school. I focussed on the best talent to create memorable events.

Instead of offering discounts, I hired the best bands possible to ensure exhilarating performances. I even recruited my high school teachers as bouncers, paying them with slabs of beer. 

These events became popular and successful, not because of cheap tickets, but because of the high value and unique experiences.

Every weekend I would escape into my personal wonderland. I would later discover that I earned an “Honours Degree in Street Nous”.

This escapism taught me the importance of adding value rather than discounting. I started to develop my own rules to live by. My own values. 

As I grew older and started my own family, these values stayed with me. This is the fastest way to make more money more often. Show me the money. 

I may not have $1 million in the bank, but I certainly have developed the mindset of opulence and abundance.
