but I think kids learning about their bodies and how to take care of them and enjoy what they can do needs more focus. 

Plus the mental health benefits are just off the charts. 📈

That’s where the 4am foot prep club started in our tent. 

4am every morning we woke in silence,

brewed a sand coffee (because Saharan sand gets everywhere),

and religiously laid out and then followed the same foot care process to the letter.

Every single day. Without fail.

We knew the one single point of failure that forced people to DNF wasn’t dehydration. It’s the types of blisters that make you cry just thinking about them.

If we controlled that, we were already on our way to a strong day out in the 52C heat!

Controlling the controllables isn’t glamorous.

Winning is though. 🔥

Most new managers think that becoming a manager is the “graduation.” Truth is, it’s the reverse.

When you go from being someone who “executes” to someone who’s managing a team, you go from trading on IQ to trading on EQ. 

You go from doing the actual work to listening to employees, catering to what they want, taking blame, and being the bigger person.

Gemma got promoted and that's when it all went wrong...
I watched her complete a £4,000 leadership programme.

She attended every session.
Scored 94% on the final assessment.
Got a glowing completion certificate.

Here's what nobody in L&D wants to admit:

What does your organisation actually measure after a leadership programme ends?

Can you measure your leaders/managers effectiveness daily?

Your L&D budget is solving the wrong problem.
I know that hurts, but here's why:

Most organisations design training to move managers from Level 2 to Level 3.

Conscious incompetence → Conscious competence.

"I know I micromanage. Now I'm learning not to."
That's the journey your programmes are built for.

Here's the problem:
70%+ of your managers are still at Level 1.
Unconscious incompetence.

❌ They don't know they're struggling. 
❌ They think the team's fine. 
❌ While three people are quietly updating their CVs.

You can't train someone out of a problem they don't know they have.
And you have no way of knowing who they are.

Because the only feedback mechanisms you have is the annual review that tells you what's already happened. Not how they're behaving day to day.

And that engagement survey platform that 40% fill in and nobody really believes is anonymous.

So your training budget lands on the 30% who've already identified the gap.

The 70% who need it most?
They sit through the same programme. Nod along. 
Walk out thinking it confirmed what they already knew.

This isn't a training problem.
It's a diagnostic problem.

You're investing in the cure before you've run the test.

I got in trouble with someone I rate (a lot) yesterday and I'm taking their advice.

Staff Officer to the Assistant Chief Constable of Dorset Police, working on local and national portfolios. In this role my job is to both advise and challenge the executive team in respect of both operational and strategic matters. Using my vast experience within Dorset Police, it is my responsibility to identify risks and issues and to problem solve effectively to ensure projects are successfully embedded. I have worked on a wide variety of executive level projects and operations, some of which have received national media attention.

The Women inspire network boasts an established membership of female officers and staff. Since 2015, my team have delivered a range of events and championed a number of issues on behalf of the organisation. We have organised networking events for members, established support networks for women’s health groups. We commissioned a force questionnaire on progression and blocks to promotion aimed at police constables and then created an action plan to deliver the outcomes. The force has since seen a large increase in the number of female officers being promoted and actively seeking further development opportunities. As a team we were awarded the Dorset Police Diversity in Action Award and have successfully managed to attract funding to support CPD events at both a local and regional level.

Working within governance, I was responsible for embedding organisational change across many channels which directly impacted the frontline, reporting directly to the Local Policing Area Commander.

I led the team for a bespoke operation. The focus was to be relentless in the pursuit of criminals at the same time as safeguarding the most vulnerable victims of crime, keeping them safe from harm. Through significant liaison with other forces, I orchestrated joint operations with the Metropolitan Police and provided briefings for days of action to all involved including local and national partner agencies and charities.

I led a fantastic team of officers in the busiest area of the county, responding to both emergency and non emergency calls, keeping the public safe from harm. I was responsible for leading and developing my team ensuring the wellbeing of all.

Response Policing Sergeant – Bournemouth South

Managing police officers, police staff and volunteers, I led the neighbourhood policing teams for several local policing areas and worked closely with the Council and other partners to provide a localised service that worked for the community taking time to understand the specific needs and issues of each area, so that my team could provide a bespoke service to each location based on its demand profile.

I am a qualified detective and passed the National Investigators Examination in 2005. Whilst working on
CID, I dealt with serious and complex crime including murders, serious assaults, robberies, frauds and sexual offending.

Working 24/7 shifts responding to emergency and non-emergency calls across Dorset, dealing with the full spectrum of incidents. Adopting problem solving and excellent communication skills.

Parkstone Sports & Arts Centre for Young People

I designed, developed and implemented a sports programme at a failing centre in Poole. There was low attendance and the site was previously attracting youths to commit anti-social behaviour at the premises rather than inspiring them to partake in sport. I employed 12 members of staff, to support and implement my plan. I also created a marketing plan and partnered with local schools and as a result, the centre was re-invigorated and shortly afterwards welcomed 80-120 youths to each session, every evening. As well as coaching a variety of multi sports on site, I also qualified as a trainer to deliver TOPS sports sessions within the community.
