I fell into start-ups by joining a shabby outfit above an industrial garage in South Wimbledon, then known as Streetcar. That business exited to Zipcar which eventually sold to Avis for a cool half a billion.

At MyBuilder, it became clear marketing was the function where I could add most impact. We grew that business and exited to IAC (Expedia, Trivago). 

Since then I’ve worked with and advised multiple companies in growth and marketing, with roles like Head of Brand, Head of Marketing, Marketing Director and Chief Marketing Officer. 

I love a bit of stradegee, but will never get tired of hands-on building, whether it’s creative, copywriting, PPC, SEO or paid search.

Returning to MediaCom in 2017, I was given a lead role with key clients, motivating a cohesive group of 45 across a portfolio of some of the biggest brands in the UK.

During this period, I implemented a series of improvements in client management, driving significant gains in customer experiences, strategy, culture, process and systems that were helped support an unprecedented period of success for both agency and clients.

Pioneering transformation in people strategy, I embedded a structured approach to organisational design, underpinned by robust, insightful audit of performance metrics, as well as a more client-focused, proactive culture. This included restructuring teams to improve service delivery across all client groups, boosting client satisfaction and retention.

Highlights included MediaCom’s win of Agency of the Year and Agency of the Decade at The Campaign awards, as well as an unprecedented double win of IPA Golds for my team’s work for DFS and the Army.

After a rewarding period at Maxus, I was tasked with leading a unique collaboration between Mindshare and sister WPP agency, m/Six, that achieved new standards of innovation and performance for NewsUK. 

By designing and delivering a proactive approach to long-term strategy, as well as creating a comprehensive new client business plan, our work helped News UK to deliver their best ever acquisition results.

A critical element in delivering this impact was my introduction of a flexible, agile new structure that improved collaboration, communication and planning.

Over three great years, during which we received another Agency of the Year award in 2014, I was mainly focused on rebuilding and expanding one of Maxus’s biggest clients, Fiat Group. 

This included a comprehensive overhaul of media planning, strategy and implementation. Highlights included revitalising the team of 35+, rebuilding client confidence and tightening analytical control of a £60m spend.

Together we won several prestigious industry accolades, with standout successes developing a powerful strategy for brand icon, Fiat 500L, as well as improving client service delivery with a new organisational design and people strategy.

In my first agency leadership role, I was serially promoted from an entry-level media planner buyer role, and appointed to the MediaCom Edinburgh Board in 2008.

Much of my focus was on developing market-leading standards of client service delivery, with a tight focus on a flagship Subway UK&I account, motivating a team of six.

Major achievements included the launch and development of Subcard into the UK’s 4th largest loyalty scheme.

One of four Member Nominated Trustee's sitting on the Board of Trustee’s with responsibility for the governance and correct running of the scheme.  The Board sat quarterly and was responsible for ensuring the prudent, legal and efficient running of the pension scheme.
