I know. Shocking.

You've been taught that "real" sales happen on calls.

I woke up in Thailand with $0 in my bank account.

(And the worst hangover of my life)

My head was pounding.

My wallet was empty.

I went to the ATM to pull out cash.

"Insufficient funds."

What the actual hell.

Turns out my bank had taken the last few hundred dollars in my checking account and applied it to my overdue credit card debt.

Cool. Great timing.

So there I was.

Broke. Hungover. In a foreign country. Alone.

This was supposed to be my "fresh start."

I'd left the States with $3K in the bank thinking I'd figure it out.

Spent the last few months burning through that money while trying to land freelance writing clients.

And failing.

Now I was at zero.

I had to borrow money from a friend I'd met in Chiang Mai just to buy food for a few days.

Most humiliating moment of my life.

But here's what happened next:

I got to work.

No more "I'll land a client eventually."

No more perfectionism.

No more overthinking.

I just started sending DMs to anyone who might need a copywriter.

Desperate? Absolutely.

Effective? Also yes.

Three days later, I landed my first real client.

Then another.

Then another.

Within 3 weeks, I had collected $8K.

Not because I suddenly got good at sales.

Because I finally got desperate enough to stop overthinking.

That $0 bank balance was the best thing that ever happened to me.

It taught me that when you have nothing to lose, you stop being precious about how you do things.

My client went from 25 calls/week at 15% to 8 calls/week at 45%.

Here's what changed:

The real reason you're not sending DMs.

(It's not ethics. It's not strategy. It's fear.)

You tell yourself stories.

"I don't want to be spammy."

"I need to warm them up first."

"My offer isn't ready yet."

"I should build more credibility."

All of these sound reasonable.

All of these are complete garbage.

Here's what's actually happening:

You're terrified of rejection.

And you've dressed that fear up as strategy.

I know because I did the exact same thing for years.

I would spend hours "perfecting" my offer.

I would tweak my profile endlessly.

I would write posts instead of messages.

And every time someone asked why I wasn't reaching out, I had a great answer.

"I'm getting ready."

"I'm building my foundation."

"I'm being strategic."

Translation: I'm scared someone will say no.

Or worse, ignore me completely.

Here's the thing nobody tells you:

The fear doesn't go away.

It just gets quieter when you do it anyway.

Every successful person I know still feels weird sending DMs sometimes.

They just send them anyway.

Because they've learned something important:

→ A "no" doesn't hurt you
→ Being ignored doesn't hurt you
→ What actually hurts is staying stuck because you were too scared to try

The only way to get over the fear of rejection is to get rejected.

And then realize... you're still here.

Nothing actually bad happened.

Your business didn't explode.

Your reputation didn't crumble.

Someone just said no.

Big deal.

So here's your assignment:

Send 5 DMs today to people you've been avoiding.

Not perfect DMs. Just human ones.

"Hey, saw you're working on [thing]. I might be able to help. Open to chatting?"

That's it.

The fear is the compass.

Whatever you're scared to do is probably what you need to do.

Why "just checking in" makes you sound desperate in the DMs.

(And here's what confident sellers say instead)

Every time you send "just checking in," a prospect ghosts you.

I'm convinced it's a law of physics at this point.

Here's why this phrase is killing your sales:

It reeks of neediness.

"Just checking in" translates to:

"Please respond. I'm sitting here waiting for you. I have no other prospects. Please validate me."

Not exactly confidence-inspiring.

Compare that to how someone with options communicates:

Desperate: "Hey! Just checking in to see if you had a chance to review my proposal?"

Confident: "You still interested in fixing your conversion rates or did you decide to pass?"

See the difference?

One is begging for attention.

The other is direct, assumes nothing, and moves forward either way.

Confident sellers don't "check in."

They either add value or move on.

Here's what to do instead:

If you have something valuable to add:

"Saw this case study and thought of your situation - [specific insight]. Still working on improving your close rates?"

If you're just following up:

"You still interested in [solution] or did you decide it's not a priority right now?"

If they've gone completely dark:

Move on. Seriously.

Chasing people who don't respond is not a business strategy.

Here's the hard truth:

If someone wants what you're offering, they'll engage.

If they don't engage, they either:

→ Don't see the value
→ Don't have the money
→ Aren't ready yet
→ Were never serious

None of those problems get solved by "checking in" repeatedly.

Your job is to make buying easy.

Not to convince people who don't want to be convinced.

Stop checking in. Start moving on.

There are people who actually want your help.

Go find them instead.

(The night I learned authority figures don't care about your reasons.)

I was in the passenger seat.

My buddy was driving.

We were 16, stupid, and driving a car that "matched a description."

Lights behind us.

We pulled over.

Normal traffic stop, right?

Wrong.

Within 30 seconds there were 4 cop cars.

Officers approaching from every angle.

Guns out.

Screaming.

"HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM. DON'T MOVE."

I remember my hands shaking on the dashboard.

I remember trying to explain we hadn't done anything.

I remember realizing nobody cared about my explanation.

They didn't care that we were innocent.

They didn't care about our "side of the story."

They had a job to do and we were in the way of that job.

After 45 minutes of sitting on a curb, they let us go.

Wrong guys.

My parents picked me up.

I lied about what happened.

Said we just got pulled over for speeding.

First time I remember lying to protect myself from the truth.

Here's why this matters for business:

I spent years thinking I could "explain my way" to success.

If I just had the right pitch.

The right story.

The right positioning.

People would understand.

But people don't care about your reasons.

They don't care about your story.

They care about what you can do for them.

That night taught me something I didn't understand until much later:

Results matter. Explanations don't.

Nobody cares why you're good at what you do.

They just care that you're good at it.

Stop explaining. Start doing.

How I closed a $9K deal without getting on a single call.

(Just DMs and a prospect who hated phone calls)

His name was Marcus.

He slid into my DMs asking about DM setter training.

I could've immediately said "let's hop on a call."

But I didn't.

Because within 3 messages, I could tell he wasn't a "hop on a call" kind of guy.

His responses were thoughtful. Detailed. Asked specific questions.

He was processing everything carefully.

So I matched his energy.

We had a full conversation in the DMs over 3 days.

He asked about the program. I explained how it worked.

He asked about results. I sent case studies.

He asked about pricing. I sent my offer doc.

No pressure. No "limited spots." No fake urgency.

Just real answers to real questions.

On day 4, he said: "This makes sense. How do I pay you?"

$9K. Wire transfer. Done.

Never heard his voice. Never saw his face.

Just helped him solve a problem he actually had.

A few weeks later, he told me: "I hate phone calls. If you'd pushed for a call, I would've ghosted you."

Wild, right?

Here's the thing most coaches don't get:

Your job isn't to force people through YOUR process.

Your job is to make buying as easy as possible for THEM.

Some people want calls. Great. Book them.

Some people want to buy in DMs. Perfect. Close them there.

Stop assuming everyone wants to do it your way.

Start paying attention to how THEY want to buy.

That's where the real money is.

If you already have paying clients, you have no business still sitting in your DMs all day.

Zero.

I watch coaches spend 3 hours a day sending messages.

They follow up with prospects.

They manage conversations.

And at the end of the month?

They're exhausted.

They're capped.

They're the bottleneck.

You didn't start a business to become a full-time DM monkey.

But that's exactly what happened.

Here's the math that should terrify you:

→ You close at $5K per client
→ You spend 15 hours a week in DMs
→ That's 60 hours a month on outreach
→ You could hire a setter for $2K/month
→ And spend those 60 hours closing, delivering, or actually living your life

But you won't do it.

You tell yourself stories instead.

"Nobody can do it like me."

"I tried hiring before and it didn't work."

"I need to protect my brand voice."

"I'll hire when I'm ready."

Translation: You're scared to let go of control.

You're scared someone will mess it up.

You're scared to invest before you see the return.

That's not strategy.

That's fear dressed up as perfectionism.

The coaches I know doing $30K-$50K months?

They haven't sent their own DMs in years.

They have setters.

They have systems.

They have their time back.

Your job is to close deals and deliver results.

Not to sit in your inbox like it's 2019.

If you have 5 paying clients, you've proven the offer works.

Now prove you can build a team around it.

Stop being the bottleneck.

Start being the owner.

The pre-selling asset stack that turns cold prospects into ready buyers.

(Before they ever get on a call with you)

Most coaches put all conversion pressure on the sales call.

That's backwards.

Here's the 4-asset stack I use with clients:

Asset 1: The Problem Validation Video (3-5 minutes)

Don't pitch your solution.

Describe their problem so accurately they think you're reading their mind.

When they feel understood, trust goes up.

When trust goes up, resistance goes down.

This video does 30% of the conversion work.

Asset 2: The Objection Crusher Doc

List the top 5 reasons people don't buy from you.

Then answer each one honestly.

→ "It's too expensive" = Here's why it costs what it costs
→ "I've tried this before" = Here's why this is different
→ "I need to think about it" = Here's what happens if you wait

Send this before every call.

Prospects show up with objections already handled.

Asset 3: The Case Study That Matches

Generic testimonials don't work.

Specific ones do.

Match the prospect to someone like them.

→ Same industry
→ Same problem
→ Same skepticism
→ Different outcome

"This person was exactly where you are. Here's what happened."

This does another 25% of conversion work.

Asset 4: The Personalized Voice Note

Before the call, send a 60-second voice note:

→ Acknowledge what they told you
→ Confirm you can actually help
→ Tell them what to expect on the call

This isn't scalable.

That's the point.

It shows you give a damn.

Stack all 4, and your prospects show up 80% sold.

The call becomes a formality.

If you're checking your setter's DMs every day, that's not leadership.

That's a broken system screaming for help.

Most coaches think the answer to underperforming setters is more oversight.

More check-ins.

More "accountability calls."

More hovering over their shoulder like a nervous helicopter parent.

Here's the truth nobody wants to admit:

Micromanagement is a symptom, not a solution.

When setters need constant supervision to perform, you don't have a people problem.

You have a systems problem.

→ No clear qualification framework
→ No pre-written message templates
→ No training on how to handle objections
→ No documented process they can follow without you

You hired a human being and expected them to read your mind.

Then blamed them when they couldn't.

The best setter teams I've seen operate with almost zero daily oversight.

Not because the setters are superhuman.

Because the systems are so clear that confusion isn't possible.

Build the system once.

Train them properly.

Then get out of the way.

Your job is to build infrastructure, not babysit adults.

My exact framework for closing high-ticket deals in DMs.

(Without sounding like a used car salesman)

Closing in DMs isn't about tricks.

It's about having a real conversation that leads somewhere.

Here's the framework I use to close $8K-$15K deals without calls:

Step 1: Qualify Naturally

Don't interrogate them. Have a conversation.

Ask about their current situation: "What's your close rate right now?"

Ask about past attempts: "What have you tried to fix it?"

Ask about impact: "If you doubled your close rate, what would that mean for your revenue?"

By the time you finish, you know if they're serious or not.

Step 2: Send Your Offer Doc

Don't pitch in the DMs. Send a doc that does the pitching for you.

Include:

→ What you're offering
→ Who it's for
→ How it works
→ Results you've gotten
→ Investment and next steps

Let them read on their own time. No pressure.

Step 3: Answer Questions Directly

They'll have questions. Answer them clearly.

No deflecting. No "let's hop on a call to discuss."

Just real answers to real questions.

If they're asking questions, they're interested.

Step 4: Make It Easy to Say Yes

When they're ready, make buying simple.

"Makes sense to move forward? Here's the payment link."

That's it.

No closing techniques. No urgency tactics. No pressure.

Just a clear path to working together.

Step 5: Follow Up Once

If they go quiet, follow up ONE time.

"Hey - still interested in moving forward or did you decide to pass?"

Direct. Not needy. Just checking in.

If they don't respond, move on.

This framework has closed me hundreds of thousands in deals.

No calls. No pressure. No BS.

Just real conversations that lead to sales.
