Shielding is one of the toughest parts of a reactor to get right, especially when you’re planning for thousands of units.

We needed something robust, and yet extremely simple.

That’s why I’m excited to share a sneak peak of our pre-cast shielding system: the Modular Citadel!

When Valar engineers first started working on our shielding system, we knew that we needed to build for scale.

The Modular Citadel is a pre-cast, self-tensioning shielding system which elegantly connects together using only gravity, while minimizing free paths for radiation.

To make power in Ward250 before July 4th, we're producing 143 of these blocks to create the first Modular Citadel. But more importantly, the production system we've developed is capable of serving thousands of blocks per year and can easily be scaled into the tens of thousands.

The team did an incredible amount fundamental work on this system to achieve high safety factor while preserving modularity. We tested hundreds of different material samples from across the US and analyzed to the PPM to find the perfect mix for strength, density, and activation.

And we did it all at Valar Speed. I'm extremely proud of the team for their work on this and excited to share more as the Modular Citadel comes together for the first time!

Our mission at Valar Atomics is to make energy cheaper every year forever.

The physics have long pointed to fission.
