Researched and wrote chapters of IVMF’s “Guide to Leading Policies, Practices & Resources: Supporting the Employment of Veterans & Military Families,” promoted by the White House.

Managed the publication of 50+ IVMF Research Briefs by consulting with social scientists, psychologists, and other authors to translate recent academic research into useful information for policy makers and practitioners working to improve health and wellness, education, and employment opportunities for veterans and military families. In addition to writing briefs, mentored junior research staff and volunteers, organizing and supervising their work in developing these weekly publications.

Designed quantitative and qualitative research instruments, including survey questionnaires for 200+ educational program participants. Oversaw collection of program participant online surveys using Qualtrics software. Analyzed and presented survey data to executive leadership.

Evaluated program success through quantitative data analysis and wrote “Annual Employment Situation of Veterans” report using Bureau of Labor statistics data to track demographic trends.

Syracuse University - Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs

Developed interview instrument and performed in-depth, structured interviews of working grandmothers for Grandmothers at Work: Juggling Families and Jobs, published in 2014 and winner of the GSA Kalish Book Award. 

Developed intensive research brief on attrition of minorities and women in STEM higher education, used to win a $20,000 AERA grant.

Oversaw and advised graduate students in research design and execution including designing a 130+ question survey, collecting data from 250 participants, regression analysis and measures of variance to analyze socio-economic and demographic data.

Taught and advised 150+ graduate and undergraduate students in sociology, health policy, and quantitative research courses. Advised students in use of SAS, SPSS and Excel software for survey design, data collection, analysis, and report development. Instructed students in producing frequency tables, Chi square analysis, proper use of pivot tables, clustered bar charts, and regression analysis. 

Completed in-depth interviews of community activists and advocates on the Westside of Syracuse, New York about community needs in infrastructure and programming. Engaged in relationship building, establishing connections with church members, youth leaders, and other community stakeholders to gather necessary information for community investment.

Graduate Policy Research & Teaching Associate

DePaul University

Developed an in-depth research report on "Explanatory Factors of Health Outcomes among Immigrant
Populations," presented at the Midwest Sociological Society Conference by completing a comprehensive literature review, interviewing participants on site in Chicago neighborhoods, and performing statistical and qualitative data analyses using SPSS and Atlas TI software.

As an applied medical sociologist, I've worked with small businesses, state and federal government clients and nonprofits for over a decade to create successful impact reports, drive business development, execute and advise on survey design and deployment, and write successful grants.

I’ve helped pass legislation and convinced legislators to write up specific bills. 

I’ve done state and grant funded evaluation work across the US, publishing in both government reports and peer reviewed journals.

And even more importantly, I’ve used measurement, evidence-based solutions and research to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. After working with me, you’ll have the data you need and a story to go along with it.
